Well that really does suck.

Good luck guys hope your futures can prosper at other clubs.

Thanks for the guts and effort!

Is #1 at Melbourne cursed. The last descent player to wear it I can remember was Strawbs O'Dwyer.

No Chris Heffernan was not good at Melbourne.

Jamie Shanahan was reasonably decent

I just hope that when our new recruits come in we don't bathe them with compliments just because they are a new recruit. Those people that saw buckley at pre-season training(in his first season) were saying how good Buckley was, how he was as quick as Chris Judd and he was going to be the first of our 'modern' 190cm midfielders. These people are now calling for his delisting. How about just getting it right the first time? Can't believe the lack of judgment involved in identifying football talent.

Valenti is good value. Gets in the right positions, works hard, good defensively, good foot skills, can kick a goal, good bloke. Just not a game-breaker or an 'A' grader. We are fishing for exactly that. We may fail. We have to try!

Posted

Could understand Valenti but unless Buckley's injury is really serious then i cant see why he was delisted. The guy has pace to burn and had an extremely impressive 2008. He is much better then blokes who have remained on our list even though they cant play

Did anyone see the Age this morning?

I must have been mistaken as i only got a brief look at the picture of the boys training, but i thought i saw Martin and Spencer competing in the Ruck with who i thouhgt was Shane Valenti standing over their shoulders.

Anyone else see this? was have mistaken Valents for, and if it is him why was he at pre-season training?

I think it's disgusting that Valenti has been delisted.

No one on our list bar maybe Maloney and Jones is as ferocious at the ball as he is.

We gave him barely any game time and how some people expected him to dominate after giving him a game here and there is a joke.

I think Valenti has so much more going for him than a lot of players on our list that we seem to show faith in and play them week in week out.

All the best for the future Shane.

My feelings exactly. I remember watching the limited games this boy played at his time at MFC and being impressed with his smarts and

application each time. Yes he was a little slow in patches, but no more than any other AFL new commer trying to adapt to the feverish pace

of todays game. Showed alot more desperation and intent than alot of other players out there. It makes me wonder what attributes the

football department place a priority on when determining if or not a player can cut the mustard at this level. Valenti's skills seemed adequate,

height an issue, pace needed work, but his heart and application would have him almost top of the class.

dissappointing result in all. Teams need players of his ilk to form a workmanlike fabric amonst the group. I would take shane any day above

some unproven 17 to 18yo going above 20 to 30 in such a thin draft.

Hope your career gets a fair rebirth somewhere else shane. Best of Luck.

Perhaps we are trying to keep him as a third year rookie?

Maybe we spoke to other clubs and they said they wouldn't pick him up in the other drafts?

Nevertheless, I personally think that you can throw a blanket 10-11 players that I wouldn't have any issues with them being delisted due to having horrible foot skills.

We must have 10 or 11 stars in the making then.

Morton, Watts, Jurrah, Grimes, Blease Strauss, Wonna, Davey, Garland, Frawley, Warnock.

But Newton has no flaws......

Mainly your own ........proven tenfold.

And for the fact the people that were lauding him then are quizzical now.

They were enough posters questioning Buckley for a number of reasons.

You need to read beyond your one hand typing.

Contracts expire October 31st, I'm guessing all players train up until then, until they're told they're not required.

All delisted players should be disappointed, especially considering Miller got his contract extended.

Don't have a go a her love child Miller she will ban u take it from me. When the game is about run and carry they get rid of Buckley but they continue to hold on to players that give us nothing like Miller the great and Newton extraordinary decision especially considering Buckley was injured for most of the year while Miller and Newton played most of the year.

I wish all the best for both players and hope they get to continue their footy careers within the AFL. Unfortunately for them one or two others are still contracted at this particular time. Thats footy.

Posted

As it stands right now we can use picks 1, 2, 11, 18 & PSD 1.

Look out for the names Bartram, Cheney & McNamara.

I'd expect at least one possibly two will get the chop if the club wants to free up pick 34 and also elevate Spencer.

Nobody would doubt Buckley's pace, but his skills and decision-making were a massive liability.

Good Luck fellas.

I think both might get a chance elsewhere. Were the Swans sniffing around for Valenti? Thought Bucks might have been a big improver this year but not to be due to injury. Unlucky!

Posted

I guess the only question is whether one last player will be delisted to open up pick 34.

However, next year we should have NO problem clearing off lots of players. I've been looking through our list and there's still quite a bit of dead wood to release.

Players who look certain to be on the chopping block for next season:

- J. McDonald (retire)

- D. Bell

- M. Newton

- B. Miller

- P. Johnson

- D. Bail

Other possibilities if they don't kick on:

- McNamara

- Bartram

- Dunn

Other than that, there doesn't appear to be any other dead wood on our list! Our list is certainly coming together nicely!

Team in 2012:

Bennel Warnock Frawley

Garland Rivers Strauss

Davey Scully Morton

Trengove Bate Sylvia

Jurrah Watts Wona

Spenser Moloney Grimes

Int: Jones, Martin, Maric, Blease, Jetta (Green & Bruce if still around), pick 11 2009, pick 18 2009

I doubt they'd be given one-year contracts for 2010, which is the only way they'd be out the door at the end of '10. It's not impossible, but I'd be very surprised. Bartram's a fair chance to get the chop now and then it's between T-Mac and Cheney for the last spot in my view. I'd like two more vacancies for pick 34 and Spencer.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
