The Davey Rumour.

Where's the fun in that? It's much more fun to whip ourselves in to an hysterical frenzy without having any facts at all at hand other than a few good rumours here and there.

Demonland in the last 24 hours has reminded me of 'Lemmings' a bit. Everyone just following each other off the same cliff to their deaths. We need one of those 'blocker' dudes that stand there with their arms out shaking their heads.

You know what else Demonland needs? A few more high horses for posters to ride on and tell other posters how they should feel or react to certain news.

Nothing shits me more than anonymous keyboard heroes telling other anonymous posters how they should act or dismissing their views because they don't match their own.

In the last 24 hours we have lost a big fan favourite in a shock decision, and only one poster out of the millions of randoms who came here yesterday, had a mini meltdown and proclaimed they won't buy a membership next year (and they were probably talking out of anger and won't follow through). So where's this cliff you're talking about?

Posters are allowed to question wtf is going on when this has seemingly come from nowhere. There were plenty more meltdowns when TJ left and he was a 28 year old with many issues.

It's also difficult to assess this decision when pick 11 is, so far, just a number. In 2-3 years time I might change my view on the situation, and so will others. That Davey/Sylvia rumours are also circulating is also concerning, and until something concrete is announced people will continue to react to the situation in ways that may not fit your own model of behaviour. Tough [censored].

meh, Davey's going no where, as much as H would like it to be true.

McLean was a bit of a shock but upon reflection it's not actually a bad move and I'm glad that the club didn't pay over the odds to keep him. If the reasons that he stated are for real then McLean is not the person I thought he was and the club is better off without him. To jump ship when the going gets tough is as soft you could possibly get.

Davey on the other hand has unfinished business at Melbourne and he is made from much tougher stuff than McPussy.

Ox on SEN said that Davey was not leaving the dees and is expected to sign a contract soon. Said that clubs trying to get him were wasting there time. ;)

Miller and Valenti to Sydney for Pick 22.

Pick 9 and Ladson to Port for Burgoyne to Hawks.

Davey staying home.

Pick 22 and Dunn to Essendon for Davey.

Yes please.

Don't care.

Great.

No way. Pick 22 if we could get it is not needed for another small forward with injury concerns. I still think Lynden can make it.

Agreed, and I don't see the justification for the Alwyn Davey love on this board.

A 25 year old small forward who kicks less than a goal a game and hasn't shown any inclination that he could make it as a midfielder. Backward step.

I think a lot of people on this forum are showing Aaron Davey a severe lack of respect if they are thinking he will leave the Demons....

Davey loves the club and is entrenched in the "brotherhood" culture up to his eyeballs.....

He would be the last to leave!

I believe if you are looking for another "big name" player to get traded, then look no further that Cameron Bruce....

And this is by no means a go at Cam.... I rate him quite highly.... But if he thinks he is going to be a walk up start next year he is kidding himself.... Unless he is prepared to move into the forward line....

While I'll be gutted if we lose Davey, I'm a bit surprised by the amount of people suggesting offering him captaincy or vice captaincy just to get him to stay- I realise some people are saying it with tongue firmly in cheek, but some seem to actually be serious. I feel like I'm stating the obvious, but apparently it needs to be said that it's a pretty important job, and it should go to the best qualified player rather than being used as a carrot on a stick. Davey wouldn't be last on my list for preferred captain, but until he stands up in big games theres a fair few people I'd have ahead of him. He was flaky and inconsistent until this year, and while he seems to have turned the corner, there have been plenty of talented players who've had one great year and then fallen off the rails again (see Travis Johnstone, circa 2005).

I'm not saying could never be captain, but he's a long way off at this stage- far too many unanswered questions.

The way Ox was speaking it sounded like it came from a club source. I won't paraphrase the wording because it won't be accurate but he wasn't stating it as his opinion.

Rumour true

Davey is speaking to other clubs whether he'll leave that is unclear.

Source: 9 news

It is true that this is a rumour, that is all.

Channel 9 news has never speculated on something like this of course - Hutchy only reports things once they are set in stone and he has seen concrete evidence... <_<

I can get pretty close to his response to Leach & Robinson :

"Just a rumour. We've touched base with the club & they say they're very close to signing a three year deal"

I guess your level of comfort can be measured against the level of cred you give The Ox. I rate him ahead of that no-name Ch9 bloke but like everyone else, will have to wait this one out.

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out
