  5. Hope its not another hamstring for aussie - concerning if it is. Was anyone else there, would love to read some more training reports.
  6. Dear Mr. Schwab, Today I took a day off work to make the 3 hour round trip to Cranbourne to see the Demons train although when i arrived at Casey fields I was greeted by a small group of angry supporters and some humoured construction workers; not a MFC player or official in sight. It seems as though contary to the website listing training as being at 9am at Casey fields, training was not on. Others had travelled even further than I, some had even called the club late last week and been told training was definately on, the construction workers claimed training had not been there on a Monday for weeks! This is an absolutely pathetic effort and for me, sours all the good work the club has been doing in recent times. If the club cant get the little things right how can it expect to achieve the ultimate in the short and long term. As members we are crying out for accessibility to the club, we want to be a part of what is building at the Melbourne football club, this sends the message that deep down the club couldnt care less about its members and the only thing of concern is our membership dollar. AFL clubs, including this great club are continually pushing the "community spirit" line which has died with the growing professionalism of the AFL, incidents like this drive a wedge between the club and the everyday supporter. How can you expect us to put into the club when we are treated this way? How do you think we feel about the Casey agreement when this happens? I didnt ring SEN as i drove down the Monash, i will renew my membership for 2010, I will make the 3 hour trip to training in the future but, i am dissapointed and do question whether all the positive news we have been fed over recent times is a true reflection on where the club is actually at. As much as it pains me to recognise, this would not happen at the Collingwood football club, thats the reality. Yours sincerely **** *******
  7. I think this is a fair deal. The russian is worth a second rounder (as is westhoff and Rivers a first rounder (pick 8/9). I think we are being far too harsh on Westhoff - he is 198cm forward, he's quick, agile and has a bit of x-factor about him. The main detraction for him is he has a pretty slight body still, with a zac dawson type year in the gym i think he can be a real player. I think its a win-win for both clubs - the russian is an experienced ruckman despite the fact he's promised to take the next step for years now despite all the opportunity, he just doesnt spread well enough from the contest the way that is required from the modern ruckman like Cox, Clark etc. I love Riv, he's as couragous as they come (reckless even), very passionate about the MFC and a leader. While he has been injury prone id hope he has put that behind him and id love to keep him. Although we've developed a richness of tall backs (Martin has to stay at CHB IMO) and he has the most currency. I think the Adelaide player from victoria is Chris Knights. I heard on the morning glory last week that its well known within the AFL community he's coming home next year.
  8. No Aaron Davey from positions 50-11?
  9. I think thats a very positive take on it Einstein. Mike said that the demons thought they had a 3 year deal agreed on in principle, although they are not too sure about it all now and that money talks. Alluded to the rumour that James Mcdonald had flew back from Bali to talk to flash He said he (a melbourne supporter and a huge Davey fan) was very concerned and Melbourne couldnt afford to lose their best player and a leader. Hirdy commented that he wants to join Alwyn. They all proposed that the Bombers have turned the tables on the Demons after they went after Alwyn last year. These guys dont really dabble in sensationalism for them to bring it up on a show made up on predominantly GF talk means the word is out there, i am very nervous about this and will be absolutely gutted if he leaves, the club have the capacity to keep him and must do everything. On the flip side we must expect this talk to be floating around when a gun player is coming out of contract. I can see some of the more senior players being frustrated if DB has stated that we are 4-6 years away from success. Why put limitations on the players and it would certainly get them thinking about how the club will operate until it gets there and where their careers will be at when the club gets to that point in time. Its going to be a very nervy fews days.
  10. channel 9 news: "the demons may have to contend with another star player leaving with Aaron Davey out of contract and speaking to other clubs" Looks as though they've been on demonland
  11. Im sad to see Mclean go, but we are being compensated for with pick 11. With Beamer and Nafth Jones we've got 2 quality inside mids and Brock is a bit slow off the mark and is an average kick lets be honest. Although im bugging out about that fact that one of the Alpha males of our group has walked despite the previous committments to the cause he's made (debt demolition, speaking passionately about the club etc.) and the way the club have been trying to push him up in the media as one of the faces of our club. The rumour about the boys being flat at DB with the way CJ left has got to be rubbish Im having a genuine panack attack about Davey (for entourage fans picture Johnny Drama when he was bugging out in his 5 towns trailor after smoking too much), surely he's not going anywhere, the more i think about it the more its crap. Although why havent the club signed him yet and lets face it who would have thought Mclean was going, stranger things have happened. It would be absolutely disasterous if there was a fraction between the players and DB, disasterous, we would look like a complete basketcase
  12. I'm watching the VFL game between Collingwood and North Ballarat. Myles Sewell, the brother of Brad, is tearing the Pies a new one with 21 p's and a goal at half time. He won the JJ Liston trophy earlier this week. He was captain of North Ballarat in the TAC, won their BnF and came 2nd in the TAC coaches award as an U/18 and he won a flag with NB last year in his first year in the VFL. He's 21, a 187cm inside midfielder who is said to have elite endurance. From watching him his strength is his game sense and his quick disposal by hand, he's an ok kick and doesnt seem to be that quick. He reminds me a bit of Shane Tuck in that he's tall for a midfielder, pretty rangy and wins alot of contested footy. Given that we probably dont need this type of player i wouldnt look at him for the ND although if he were still there come rookie draft time id go for him.
  13. http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tab...37/default.aspx Interesting comments about Danny Hughes, looks to be in the clubs plans long term.
  14. The sort of player he is we would be very interested in. Pros - Has leg speed - Carries the ball better than anyone in the comp. - elite kick - Is a goal kicker - Hasn't missed many games through injury and started his career at 22 Cons - Poor defensively - From all reports is a space cadet - Is turning 28 next yr What we'd have to give up? - Last yr in a qaulity draft the Bombers were willing to settle for a late 2nd round (Geelongs) although started driving a harder bargain at the last minute. So presumably they think he's worth an early 2nd round 20-25. Given the supposed shallow draft of 09 i think he's worth a pick ~ 20. - If we wanted him having the 1st PSD selection allows us to drive a hard bargain, although given there will be others clubs interested Essendon may be able to choose who they deal with. Id imagine they'd be after our pick 18. The verdict. Ive just been watching some footage of Lewis Jetta. http://www.afldraftinfo.com/2009/05/lewis-...tswa-video.html He reminds me of a young (he's 20) Andrew Lovett, he is very quick, has elite game sense, is very creative and is a pretty good kick. He has been dominating a WAFL level earning BOG in the WAFL state side and playing well in swan districts final win on the weekend. He is worth our pick 18 and id go for him over Lovett. BTW i think the club will also be investigating the availability of Danyle Pearce.
  15. BAD CALL! wasnt great last week, better on the weekend, still re-adjusting to afl level after a long lay off with injury. He definately has a future with us, in a good side his long kicking provides great variety to a side, is a pretty versatile player, can play tall defence and wing, i see him as a possible part of our future premiership plans. Think stuart dew for the hawks last yr, pinch hitting and using his long kicking
  16. Those odds are absurd. Rudeboy or jalpirri can u give us the inside word?
  17. Thank god someone else can recognise this, i have to question which game people have just watched sometimes, such is some of the obervations people have been making. He's our best player and when i saw Brady Rawlings take him at the first bounce i dropped an F- bomb. Thats the sort of attention he commands these days and in a young team where he is arguably the only player who has the ability to really hurt the opposition, he gets the number 1 stopper everytime. He's gone from a player who plays deep forward at the feet of the talls, to now playing higher up the ground. These days given the importance of being able to kick the ball Bailey has player him behind the ball and the players give him the ball whenever they can as he is one of the best passers in the game. This is impossible to do when uve got a tagger up ur arse. All players (Judd, selwood excepted) go through periods in their career where taggers get the better of them and they almost accept defeat when greeted by a tagger at the first bounce. Daniel Kerr is going through this at the moment after the exodus of Judd and cousins. Unfortunately i dont think flash has the tank to out run a tagger, and its tough to find space through the middle of the ground to burst away, nor is he a good stoppage player where he can lose his man. There are certain players who are brilliant in a good side and have their influence stifled in an losing side. I think flash is one of these, although when we are back up the top i think so will his form. What should Bailey do when he has a tagger? id try him at Half-back, where he can use his kicking ability to set us up and then push forward and get dangerous when we have the ball. He isnt a great overhead mark, but he does have pretty long arms so i dont see why he couldnt spoil well.
  18. B: Bartram Warnock Garland HB: Buckley Rivers Frawley C: Davey Bruce Morton HB: Miller Bate Green FF: Wonaeamirri Newton Sylvia Foll: Johnson Mcdonald Mclean Inter: Petterd/Jones, Moloney, Dunn, Spencer Injured/Underdone - Bell, Whelan, Maric Match-ups Dunn:Harvey Bartram:Campbell Petrie: Rivers Hale: Warnock - I think Bartram will definately play given Baileys been spruiking him as having a great pre-season and when fit he's very good at playing on the dangerous small fwd. - Dunn to play on the opposition tagger, he's been groomed for the role and you dont spend the pre-season caravaning the oppositions best player, sacrificing your own game not to play come the real stuff. -I'm undecided on Petterd or Jones, Petterd can play on the small defender, can also play higher up the ground, althought kicks choppers, i suspect he might get daniel wells if he plays. Jones had a rough year given at times he was getting the oppositions best stopper. Lack of leg speed and kicking lets him down although his ability to win the contested ball is top shelf. - Cheney unlucky to miss out althought with both Garland and Frawley able to play both small and tall its tough to get a game. Behind Bell and Whelan for the small backs role also. - Unless wona was sore during last weeks game he'll definately play, had a great pre-season and had a month off plus a VFL game to recover from a hammy. - Martin is unlucky to miss but dont think theres an obvious match-up if Rivers plays. Id understand if they took the cautious approach with Rivers but i think he'll play. -Bate and Miller twin CHF's Sylvia and Newton deep forwards. -Spencer over Meeson....just I hope i havent made an glaring errors
  19. Spot on Nugget, BGS games will take preference over Casey although MFC games will take over BGS. Unfortunately for BGS i imagine that he wont be playing many games for them, my opinion is that he will be playing round 1 for the simple reason he's in our best 22. I went to school with a guy who was drafted at the end of year 11 and he was able to combine training with school pretty well, although he didnt put much work into his studies. Jack will most likely train with us in the main sessions although do his weights and running outside school hours. He will probably be only doing 4 subjects instead of 5 so that will help with his time management. Sam Blease is also doing yr 12 this year at Yarra Valley grammar i believe.
  20. Jon Griffen? What? Is this a miss-print? Pastiest bloke ive ever seen. Looks like he's sneezed into a tin of milo.
  21. Apparently this is the sqaud list for the All stars game on saturday night. I got it off Bomberblitz. Flash is playing and interestingly Jurrah has been named. No aussie suprisingly! I doubt Jurrah will play given he hasnt been doing full training the last 2 weeks. Jonathon Griffin (Adelaide), Graham Johncock (Adelaide), Andrew McLeod (Adelaide), Jarrhan Jacky (Adelaide), Jared Petrenko (Adelaide), Ashley McGrath (Brisbane Lions), Albert Proud (Brisbane Lions), Chris Yarran (Carlton), Andrew Lovett (Essendon), Nathan Lovett-Murray (Essendon), Nathan Djerrkura (Geelong), Mathew Stokes (Geelong), Travis Varcoe (Geelong), Cyril Rioli (Hawthorn), Cameron Stokes (Hawthorn), Aaron Davey (Melbourne), Liam Jurrah (Melbourne), Matt Campbell (North Melbourne), Lindsay Thomas (North Melbourne), Cruze Garlett (North Melbourne), Shaun Burgoyne (Port Adelaide), Daniel Motlop (Port Adelaide), Marlon Motlop (Port Adelaide), Danyle Pearce (Port Adelaide), Raphael Clarke (St Kilda), David Wirrpanda (West Coast), Liam Bedford (West Coast), Adam Cockie (West Coast), Jarrod Harbrow (Western Bulldogs), Joshua Hill (Western Bulldogs), Malcolm Lynch (Western Bulldogs), Brennan Stack (Western Bulldogs).
  22. Morton (was running laps during the group work although would definately be midfield.) Watts (forwards) Petterd (Backs) Strauss (Backs) Blease (Running laps) Sylvia (forwards) Garland/Martin (Backs) Zomer (Forwards) Buckley (Midfields) Bail (Midfields) Bate (Forwards)
  23. Yeh from all reports Struass is a top fella. A good private school boy and very likeable, i thought he trained very well yesterday. His kicking is the feature of his game something DB will be keen to promote as much as possible. Rohan Bail was pretty inconspicuous at training didnt notice him until towards the end of the session when he kicked a nice goal from 40 out on the run, is a good size and has the body to play senior footy now. A real show for the NAB cup.
