if i remember correctly Trent Croad didnt have a say when Hawks sent him to Freo,he woke yp in hospital & was presented with a Freo guernsey & didnt know anything about it,i coild be wrong though

Croad went to Freo and did not perform.

Why would a Club accept a player who does not want to play with them?

What does a Club expect will happen with the remaining players (and their managers) if they shaft another player against their will to another Club in a trade?

A very big if but "if" he ends up at our club it could mean a massive improvement in our performance. When up and running he is exceptional at clearances. He is exactly what we lack.

Powerpoint has many attractive features but it doesn't have a 'make an organisation that has won 12 of the past 66 games look attractive to players looking to win a flag before their careers end' feature.

We are not an attractive option for established stars of the AFL.

I really think many on here cannot process that last statement. They understand, but they cannot comprehend.

It is another frustration that we will might have the No pick in PSD, means bugger all when we are dismissed out of hand for established, quality mid aged AFL players.

Fringe players, Delisted or on there last legs players would be looking at us as a potential (which I think we are to smart to take up any of these no win scenarios) only.

It will be satisfying in a few years where we will be able to cherry pick quality from other clubs, hopefully from the likes of Vi$$y.

And let's not forget that he's just undergone a knee operation the result of which will not have been resolved by the trade period. If the club's policy from last year of not drafting injured players is observed then we won't chase him too hard.

Edit - At the end of FC, they did the paper round, didnt catch what paper it was, but one paper is reporting that Burgoyne is seeking $2million over 4 years.

Good to know we're in the mix, but hard to get too excited after the Judd and Warnock sagas...

his age is exactly the age where we have a massive hole in our list. the odd 30 year old in a premiership side is not a problem. one could argue it is needed.

plus he will take the heat off other players from a tag point of view whilst they develop. jones, blease, morton, scully etc etc

i cant see how we lose unless we have to pay him through the nose

Not necessarily. Players can nominate their pay terms when they entre the PSD and he's likely nominate a price in that range anyway. If we've been paying McLean around 400,000 then 500,000 a year for Burgoyne excellent value.

Unless he nominates us as the preferred destination we wont get Burgoyne through the PSD any other way than all other deals falling over. If that happens we wont be getting him for less than he wants.

I wonder if 1.75 mil for 3 years would do it with some strict performance conditions to give him another year @ 300K should he choose to play on. This could be front loaded so he would get the benefit of having the money work for him now rather than later and gives us an out if his body doesn't hold up?

Don't flame me on this coz I really don't know a lot about his situation or what ours is with contracts. I'm just throwing it out there for thought.

$2m over 4 years for Shaun Burgoyne is a steal, knee notwithstanding. We've got a shedload of room in the salary cap - now's the time to see if we can put it to use.
