If the reports are true and gibson wants to go to hawthorn, the MFC could get involved.

Hawthorn supporters think pick 9 is too low and many think pick 25 is to high.

Melbourne should offer a player and pick 18 to Hawthorn, and this gets on passed to North for Gibson

We could move up nine positions....

would someone like Tmac do it or would it have to be rivers and maybe hawthorns 2nd rounder

the hawks are not going to want both Gibson and Rivers, so you can rule him out, but i do think Jamar could get this trade scenario done, and if thats all it took i would do it in a heart beat

Hawks will get him, there offering him a large amount of money.

Plus i love how our back line is panning out.

I wouldnt mind trying our luck with Mitch Thorp.

I would! I'm aware of nothing Thorpe has done since being an AFL listed player, to warrant bringing him to Melbourne. Would much prefer for us to pick up the best tall available in the draft at pick #18, and to persevere with the development of Stef Martin as a forward / occasional ruckman.

Pick 250 is too high. Woeful footballer, he has never played a good game and far too short for a key post. He has nothing going for him. If Hawthorn want to give away pick 9 or 25 then just give them Miller or Richmond could just give them Raines cause I think both are better than him and I don't rate any of them at all.

What is Hawthorn's fasination with useless backmen? Hay, Thornton and now Gibson.

Hawthorn gets: Jamar & Gibson

North gets: pick 18

MFC gets: Pick 9 & Thorp

... maybe.. don't see it happening, but I think MFC would be clear winners here. North gets screwed.

I suggest you think before u start slagging people off. I am a close mate of Mitch's. The reason he hasn't played much is injuries. Hip opperation, shoulder and also he broke a bone in his foot. The only worry is his shoulder but the docs think that it is going to be fine. Also he is not too short as the hawks used him in the ruck. You need to get some facts or think before slagging players off.

This deal isn't too great for us, Jamar is an important player and Thorp has big question marks.

Unless our doctors can have a good look at Thorp and give him the thumbs up i wouldn't consider this. Hawthorn's track record with trading Hay proves they can''t be trusted as well.

I would've thought Jamar is a priority for the club to re-sign. Not untouchable, but clearly our best ruckman.

Correct BBP.

A case of trading a player for trading sake.

And I think before YOU go slagging off, you should pause, take a breath, and read his post again.

He was referring to Gibson as a spud, not your mate, and he was correct.

I think it'd be interesting to see if Hawthorn can do a deal - any deal.

They are the new Collingwood with trading. Just offering money but with no intention of actually coughing up enough to do an equitable trade. They wouldn't even trade a first round pick for Ryan O'Keefe last year!!!

I'm not sure if anyone will want to trade with them in the future.

Tend to agree AOB. Can't imagine Sydney dealing with them anytime soon.

Interesting point and IMHO quite valid ... However, people can have short-term memories ... assuming they think there is something in it for themselves.

No doubt about it IMHO think the Hawks are becoming quite under-handed in their dealings.

Must confess its something I always liked about CC never felt he was under-handed ... hence never felt we were either.

Make it Pick 9 & Dowler and I'd be more interested.

I'm not sure how short the memories are. After all, how many trades have been done between Port and Collingwood, West Coas and Collingwood, and West Coast and Fremantle recently?

If you look at trade history, I could be wrong, but there seems to be clubs that deal a fair bit. Port and us... and I think maybe Freo and us? Even if that's right, Freo's been in bed with everyone at some stage...

I don't think it's ridiculous to suggest certain long-term recruiters have friendly relationships with one-another. Probably really look to one another for information some of the time, rather like defence and prosecution lawyers do in courtrooms. Friendly even though on opposing sides.

Likewise long-term coaches may share a bit. Let's say Choco Williams likes the way Neale Daniher coaches, and as a result, takes Walsh from us as he knows he's been coached well...

I am, of course, drawing a long bow here, but I don't think it's a ridiculous assertion.

It goes the other way too. I doubt ANY club would be very willing to trade with Collingwood, as every trade seems to do them more favours than the others club.

That was certainly the alleged situation when Port refused to trade Nick Stephens to Collingwood. It's how Stephens ended up in the PSD and eventually at Carlton, who had the first pick.

North Melb must be think Hay, Thompson Hawthorn you got us there. IMO Gibson is worth a third round pick, North will ask for first and get second, Pick 25 which is fair enough.

I knew it. Had a feeling they were sleeping around. Maybe that's why they always struggle for 'performance' on the road. Someone give'em that 1800 number!

I don't think you're drawing a long bow at all. I'm sure some recruiters/asst.coaches and coaches have long relationships with those opposing teams and as such maybe more inclined to get deals done (at least maybe quicker).

Ie. Steven Icke - Fremantle/Carlton. I'm only speculating with this example. But this may have helped in the R.Warnock deal.

It goes the other way too. I doubt ANY club would be very willing to trade with Collingwood, as every trade seems to do them more favours than the others club.

I have no doubt. Ie. M.Williams/Collingwood (re: N.Stevens)..

pick 25 is fair enough, but 1million over 3 seasons, hawthorn surely cant be that stupid, rivers is worth 2 gibsons, and he doesnt fall over in the shower.

I wouldn't be suprised to see Hawthorn trade picks 9 & 25 to North for Hale & Gibson in a package. North might have to throw in a 3rd round pick also, but that way Hawthorn get their ruckman and a 3rd tall defender they're after. All that will be left for them after that will be to attempt to trade for Maguire.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
