6: Davey (only player in our team who can kick)

5: Warnock (officially one of the best defenders in the game, will finish very, very high in the B & F)

4: Morton (Very exciting in the first half)

3: Frawley (Gave some good dash, starting to justify his high draft pick selection)

2: Green (solid as ever, what else do you expect?)

1: Jones (good player)

6: Warnock - our best, did what he had to do

5: Jones - needs help from his fellow midfielders, do they know how to shepherd, clear a path or in Mcleans case CHASE.

4: Davey - our most reliable kick

3: Martin - Strong overhead (punch, mark) and quick

2: Petterd - provided a contest, and pressure

1: Miller - the only non-back capable of taking a mark consistently

Can anyone at the game, comment on what midfielders provide any defensive pressure????

I find it interesting so many put Davey BOG. Aside from the fact he hit targets I actually thought he caused more harm than good. He stood sideways from the player with the ball and then when it was given to him offered no run but just chipped it to someone else. I would assume he was there to offer run but I did not see it.

6. Jones (starting to see the Scott West influence)

5. Warnock (great backmens effort)

4. Green (most dangerous player in our forward half)

3. Morton (Improved performance. First half skills were sublime, second half skills were iffy -Freak 72% overall does not make him elite this week)

2. Miller (Led hard all day)

1. Davey (purely weight of numbers and lack of other 1 vote options)

Davey was the ONLY player in our team to break lines and find targets with pinpoint accuracy , and provide tackling pressure .

I believe it was one of his best ever performances for the club

Agree. His kicking skills are second to none at the club.

I did not think he broke too many. Many of his possessions were easy uncontested dish offs and too many of his disposal were short passes not penetrating the oppositions lines. I dont think from the wieght of possessions really hurt the opposition. He does show that he has class I wish he could do more with the ball.

I would expect opposition coaches will seek to nullify the easy handpass to Davey and make him more accountable.

He was one of best today and has played much better for us in the past.

Are we really happy with Davey collecting cheap possessions in the back half? Besides a couple good tackles he did not have an influence on the game along with Bruce and to a lessor extent Green. I prefer to give my votes to those that did.

Warnock killed Cloke. No coincidence that Cloke's two goals came in the 2 minutes that Warnock was moved off him.

My Votes:

6: Warnock (great defensive game considering the amount of time it went there)

5: Davey (great footskills - endeavour wa sback eventhough a number of opponents were able to easily avoid him

4: Morton (good run and effort today)

3: Green (went missingin last quarter but not Robinson Crusoe

2: Miller (he had them on toast until being concussed)

1: Bruce (needs to avoid those annoying, stupid and costly mistakes)

Honoralble mention to J Mac for his tacking and Jones (would have got in my votes but consistentlytries to beat 3-4 opponents and gets caught. Has poor awareness). Back to earth for some of our younger players (Cheney, Petterd, etc).

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
