I really hope that Col can get some consistency in his game..... Not only in his possessions, but also in his attitude.... A consistently good attitude is all that this boy needs IMHO.... The skill and strength are never absent.... It is just a question of attitude and getting rid of that FIGJAM attitude that he likes to show us every other week.....

If by fair you mean a fairly huge disappointment or fairly pathetic attitude or have a fair crack, then I agree. The guy is a waste of talent. Sylvia was good today. Very strong hands. I still feel he has a lot more to give and agree with others that he just refuses to be consistent. You can see that he could be a gamebreaker if he truly wanted to be, but that is just the problem, the ``IF``

Yeah I kinda agree H he does make a few poor decisions. I just liked what I saw today but as someone else mentioned he is a bloody tease! I want to see todays form and more, on a regular basis, but I will not hold my breath!

They moved him into the midfield in the second quarter and IMO he was BOG for us. Looks better in the midfield competes wants the footy, some of his marks today were great. Get of his back, support the players that are good enough to play for the Melbourne football club and let the coaches decide whether he is good enough to be in our team. We support that is what we are supporters, how about we try backing this guy instead of constantly putting him down.

Got us back into the match today and was brilliant. Is so quick off the mark and his kicking skills are sublime. Sydney had no one who could go with him. If he plays like that every week Yze_Magic's prediction of him taking home the Bluey could very well come true.

That was Moloney, and the game wasn't played under NAB cup rules, so the rushed behind rule wasn't in effect.

Our forward line was practiaclly non existent in the 2nd quarter. Col got us back in the game in the third quarter. He is a natural forward. He is a very quick lead and is stronger than most. He is not the evasive type but a strong lead.

AFL forward footy is tough to play at his size. But i think as his body hardens and becomes stronger he will be a very good forward who can pinch hit as a mid from time to time.

Our forward line will be stronger whwn Bate plays as well.

How many games have "mattered" in the last two years? At the end of last year Col was one of our better players and was standing up when most of the rest of the club wasn't. I'd say he stood up when it mattered then.

He's a small forward who has played in the shadow of Neitz and Robertson for most of his career. Knowing what you do about footy you'll understand that being a small forward is a hard gig particularly when you're probably 4th in the "go to" player.

I'm not suggesting he's "made it" or he's a "very good footballer" and his game against the Hawks was disappointing. But his response yesterday was very good and from my point of view he's played one shocker in his last 9 games (in the last 7 games last year he averaged 20 possessions and considering how bad we were and the fact he played mainly forward represents a pretty good performance I'd have thought).

But I understand people's frustration and measured against expectation he has not performed. But I've not written him off.

All the discussions about Sylvia boil down to a very simple observation. He has yet to consistently put together 2-3 good quarters over 2-3 games concurrently. You really wouldnt think is too much of a big ask of a decently skiller player..would you ?

He has yet to convince many( including me )..he's still more about a perecived potential rather than any real delivered performance and thats a very poor returnfor his expectaions.

Fan... Im long over expecting him to deliver accoring to his pic #. and it really concerns me if this is his good footy..as to me they were disjointed glimpses with occasional second efforts interpsersed with frustrating ineptness come ragedness of poise.

He did some very ordinary things today. Thankfully, he did some good things.

That's a fair assessment IMO.

He made more than a handful of bad mistakes, whether it was kicking in hope to no one in particular, handballing straight to the opposition, etc.

He also did enough nice things to warm the hearts of those who love Colin.

As footy supporters we must learn to manage our expectations - thats hard in such an emotive game. If Col was a number 50 pick we would be saying he is a pretty good player and declaring a bargain.

He was number 3 and has taken a while to develop. He probably will be a very good player for the club but not a superstar. We need to accept this and be demanding yet supportive at the same time.

If he turns out to be better than a very good player then its a bonus. He is still 23 and he is yet to reach peak body strenght but already he can out body most opponents when playing up forward as well as outpace them on the lead.

In my opinion given the type of forward he is Col is about 2 years off playing at his peak.

I reckon the overall disclaimer to Col is to take him in context of WHEN. By this I mean he came along as a very high draft pick when we really needed some major return for it. In a virtual drought of real success we needed Sylvia to be one of THOSE players. As a result much expectaton is piles on his plate. Move forward and with a differing climate amassing around the club with many new faces and, I think its reasonable to say , a fair fist of talent if raw aboundig the place that we might not look so focusedly towards any single player now in the same way we did towards Col.

Essentially; He came along..we used a high pick, we had great expectations..it hasnt materialised.

His prediposition to do as many good things as bad for me puts him in the ho-hum basket. He really needs to fix that , all the whiles looking over his shoulder as he is now VERY easily replaced. So would say the quicker the better. He has about 3-4 games to stave that off in my opinion or he's for the heap ( scrap!! )

Colin has never had anything close to an AFL body. I am not talking in shape or physique, I am talking about all his groin problems that have never enabled him to the things on the field that he is capable of.

Now that he is finally up and running, you are gonna see him average 20 touches and boot 60 goals and take home the Bluey and All Australian honors.

And I will continue to bump this thread every time he shines.
