Herald Sun believes it to be Scott West

LINK

Thanks Mick, that seems more realistic :) West might be a great pickup, or he may not be..lol. After al lwe al thought Williams might have a more positive influence than seemed to occur too.Still Scotty would come with a fantastic pedigree and by all accounts is a natural imparter of this. One way or anothr I certainly hope we play this part of the ground much smarter and more effective than the past.

welcome aboard West :)

This is sensational news. I guess I'd prefer it if he was aboard on a full-time basis, but if he has other commitments, I'm just greatful to have him around to help our currently worthless midfield out. He could even teach the old dog Bruce a new trick or two about effective handball.

If true this is fantastic news even if it only is part time. West is highly respected, straight out of the game, one of the best inside players of the last decade and learnt his trade in a similar environment to our own (The Doghouser sure aint no Lexus Centre).

Agree. Scott West could really teach our guys a few things.

If it's West then I'm absolutely stoked. He was one of my favourite players outside MFC -- a no-nonsense insider who was probably the best in the business at the quick handball. If he's as good a teacher as people would have you believe then that's even better. I reckon our mids need all the help they can get at the moment.

Again, if true, it's a big win for the club.

Excellent news.

Scott West's knowledge would be of enormous benefit to McLean and Jones in particular, as all three play similar roles but lack a bit of pace. Never stopped West from being first to the ball though.

Finally we go after someone and actually get them. Amazing!

The bloke he should really be able to help IMO is Brent Moloney who has a lot of fine attributes but could learn a hell of a lot from West about others in respect of which he has been lacking in recent years. If totally fit, Moloney could make a big difference if West can help smooth over the rough edges.

You know what they say Diablo, you can't teach an old dog new tricks...

Yes. Good point regarding Moloney.

hahaha looks like i was wrong, wasn't Darcy!

Lets hope West can talk him into coming down as a ruck coach though, as we obviously will need one

I think in the modern game the "Ruck role" is much less significant then the midfield role. If you can win more quality center clearances then your opponents you will win more games then you loose regardless of the tap stats. Therefore the midfield coach roles is paramount with ruck as a secondary role. Well thats how I would go about the structure if in DB's shoes!

therefore WELL DONE TO ALL INVOLVED. I wonder if this might have a positive effect on the number of signed members before next saturday? I hope so!

hopefully west will teach both moloney and jones the art of the quick handball. it could really take jones' game to another level, because atm he is always looking to personally carry the ball out of the contest. it would also allow moloney to play inside to greater effect, rather than just crash and bash and try and kick long.

West joins Demons

"In a major coup the Melbourne Football Club is delighted to announce that it has appointed Scott West to the role of Assistant Midfield Coach.

West joins the Demons in a part-time capacity, and will assist Mark Williams with the team’s midfield group, specialising in the stoppage area of the game."

There's another bloke that could grow beyond all expectations - Simon Buckley. He has the ability to step around traffic the likes of what ablett does. With a bit of coaching (re quick handball when it is required) who knows what he could do for us. (I'm not suggesting for a minute that buckley will be as good as ablett but could be seen as an equal to jones as a midfielder)

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res
