Carlton will struggle to get both O'Keefe and Warnock, but that's what the greedy bastards want. Sydney won't accept any less than a top 10 and Freo have already knocked back pick 24. Without throwing some players in the mix and probably getting some other clubs involved, they're no hope. Problem is they've got spuds and stars and not much in between. Right now I'd have us as just under a 50/50 chance to land Warnock, if Carltank really want O'Keefe.

The question I have is, if we land Warnock are we obliged to match Carlton's offer salary wise, our earlier offer, or can we pay him what he's actually worth?

If you draft him in the National or Pre-season drafts, he can nominate his terms and by drafting him, you agree to them.

I hate to say it but I reckon Warnock will end up at Carlton. They'll either throw Richard Hadley in with pick 24 to get the job done or a multi club deal will see Andy Lovett end up there. Possibly something like

O'keefe to Bulldogs, Ray to Bombers, Lovett to Freo, Warnock to Carlton and pick 24 along with something else to Sydney maybe?

How can you put O'keefe in the same class as Ray and Lovett? Sydney getting shafted big time there.

If any of that was to be fair, Sydney would have to get at least the 2nd rounders from all 3 clubs as well as Brad Fisher or something.

But then I doubt the bombers would even do a straight swap lovett for ray let alone adding picks

what ever he nominates must be included in the salary cap, whether that is what he is actually paid or not.

so im not sure if carlton could afford him in the PSD, given that they couldnt pay him through other avenues...

I must confess Im a bit miffed as to why or how a "mediator" is allowed to enter the picture. I would have thought market forces and rules applied. Simple as that. If two parties dont agree at present, there are avenues for other outcomes. That should still apply.. You cant FORCE one club to accept a deal it doesnt want to ..esp if it knows another better is around the corner. The AFL needs to step back here. It cant show any form of favouritism. Let the dice fall as they will.

My problem with all this Warnock saga is why have we said we're only interested in people who want to be Melbourne and we're still chasing this goose??? He's said he wants to be a blue,he's going to cost to much and he aint that good. If we are going to bring another dud ruckman to the club we should get Seaby. After all, Warnock was playing 2nd fiddle to him at W.Perth for the best part of half a year!

You've every right to be suspicious, 'Bub, but I think the idea is that since this is such a significant trade this year, with so many other trades relying on this one being resolved, the AFL feels that in order to help Trade Week run smoothly, it has an obligation to step in and help Fremantle and Carlton to a resolution, one way or another. Keep in mind that there's a difference between "mediation" and "arbitration."

If, at the end of the week, both Carlton and Fremantle are unhappy, then you know the mediation has worked. If only one of the Clubs is unhappy, then arbitration has probably occured. We'll see . . .

If her playing ahrd ball, well then yeah I think its acceptable for the AFL to step in and help.

Remembering that it is NOT arbitration BUT mediation.

I dont want Carltank to get him- far from it. But I also dont want a player to play for a team that he doesnt want to be at.

This whole "Warnock trade" has the potential to turn the AFL drafting-trading system into a farce.

IMHO its almost like a closed auction process very similar in many ways how we can buy/sell real estate.

Putting it in "lay" person terms ... you have a vendor(at this stage) = Fremantle & 2 potential buyers = Carlton & Melbourne.

Buyer A offers pick 24, Buyer B decides to better that offer and offers 19.

Surely now Buyer A is obligated to improve their offer of get out of the auction. Cant see for the life of me why the AFL

has to get involved as the arbiter.

If the arbiter does choose to forces the vendor to sell for the lower offer .... where does that leave the "system"

Answer = Unworkable, devoid of creditability & integrity.

If we're not careful the Players association will be calling it "restraint of trade" and the calls for free agency amongst clubs will get stronger, further weakening clubs like ours. This trade is holding up the whole trade week. The guy wants out, pick 24 is more than reasonable, he should be able to go. Freo are trying to make a statement afetr being shafted so many times. Don't forget RWarnock wants to play for Carlton and for that reason alone I don't want him at our club

But what responsibility does Freo have to Warnock?

I would've thought Freo's responsibility would be to get the best they can for him in the interest of the club and to appease the members.

If he was an MFC player wanting to go to Carlton, I wouldn't care what he wanted. Bottomline I would want the best compensation available and the player can go to hell.

Its a business for both sides, loyalty is a fallacy unless a contract has been signed.

where has Warnock ever said he DOESNT want to go to Melbourne ?? Its a preference for the Blues..not an absolute.. If he was so bloody adamant about it..he wouldn't be letting Freo do the talking.. !! But he is.. so he must be aloowig a couple of destinations in his thinking..surely.

So again.. either the Blues do a deal.. or get out the way!! :D
