  1. Haha. You should try being a Freo supporter. Then you'll really see what it's like to suck at recruiting/trading.
  2. If you trade for him, you would have to come to an agreement with him first over terms. If you draft him in the National or Pre-season drafts, he can nominate his terms and by drafting him, you agree to them.
  3. It's very hard to really determine what he's worth, given most of it is simply on potential and not on what he has produced. If you compare him to Aaron Sandilands at the same age, he is light years ahead, but whether he ever improves to that extent or not remains to be seen. I'd be reasonably happy to get Carlton's 2nd round pick and a young player, but I still think they'd be getting a bargain. If they offered up pick 6, then I'd be packing Robbie's bags and driving him to the airport myself.
  4. I'd prefer to NOT have the number 1 pick - firstly, it's a lot of pressure on the recruiters to get it right and secondly the pressure on the player is enormous. Given that Naitanui is so highly rated yet still has some massive holes in his game, I'm almost hoping that he's gone before Freo get a pick. Oh, the Solomon trade really wasn't that bad either. Sure, Essendon did well with the picks they got, but they were both late picks so who knows what Freo would have taken. He's been a very, very good player for Fremanlte despite the opinions of a lot of people in the East.
  5. Fremantle aren't going to give up Warnock and pick 3 just to get pick 1. There are enough very good players for them to get one at pick 3 AND get something decent for Warnock as well. At worst, Carlton will offer their second round pick and a player. You need to remember Freo have a LOT of holes to fill, trading out more than we get back is not going to work.
  6. Can't see Freo going for it unless Carlton only offer something ridiculous. Freo need not to be mindful not only of quality, but also quantity. Trading pick 3 and Warnock for pick 1 leaves yet another hole to plugged at the end of the draft. I'd rather get Carlton's second rounder and a reasonable young player than upgrade pick 3. There is plenty of talent in the draft, and Freo will have the opportunity to get a very good player at pick 3 regardless of where Naitanui goes.
  7. I thought you were going to get him in the PSD for nothing? Why would you trade with Freo? Melbourne hold all the aces remember.
  8. So you'd like him to play for the team that finished 16th for the love of the game, when his market value is at least $300K? No wonder Juddy passed the Demons up last year.
  9. Shame there wouldn't be anyone there to watch him.

Both WA teams are cashed up. Freo have in excess of $2m available in the cap and West Coast have quite a lot available too. If Melbourne are making big $$ offers to Warnock, you couldn't blame Green looking for the $$ elsewhere. Could make for an interesting PSD.
  11. Trent Carroll played at both Freo and West Coast. Nathan was on Freo's rookie list but was discarded and ended up at Melbourne. I don't think there's a snowball's chance in hell of him coming anywhere near Freo (we just sacked Farmer, why would we pick up Carroll)
  12. Obviously, but if Warnock is being offered similar opportunities both playing wise and financially to go to Carlton, he'd be silly not to look at it. He could be tapping the ball down to one of the most talented midfields in the league. Without being derogatory, unless he has a desperate desire to play with his brother, there's not a whole lot that's enticing about playing for Melbourne when you've got multiple offers in front of you.
  13. Hawthorn and Richmond are reportedly keen on Mundy, while Carlton are super keen on Warnock. Not quite sure that Melbourne will be able to lure either if they are entertaining offers from better teams. Staker and McKinley from the Eagles are both out of contract (hmm, is Staker a Vic though? maybe NSW??). Ryan Murphy and Scott Thornton (a CC favourite) are also out of contract but I think will most likely stay on a 1 year deal.
  14. belzebub, do you think Warnock can make it through a whole season as the main ruckman for any side? From what I've seen of him at Freo, I've got my doubts he can come up against the the bigger bodies of Cox, Sandilands, King, Lade etc. He has an enormous amount of potential, but is still very, very lightly built and has had some fairly major injuries. I'd think he's a good season, if not 2 away from having the size and strength to compete on a regular basis. Can you see him lasting 22 weeks doing even 60% of the ruck work?
  15. Carlton, like Melbourne, seem to think Robbie is ready to hold down the #1 ruck spot next year and will give Kruezer and Hampson time to develop. Hampson is also a Qld boy too IIRC, so don't be surprised to see him off to GC17 for a handy pick in a couple of years time if they do snare Warnock.
  16. Steven Icke seemingly knows the Warnock family very well. In terms of Carlton getting Warnock, I don't think he'd be passing to them in the PSD (Freo have at least $2m spare in the salary cap with all the departures this season and would take him if he's there), but Carlton may actually be willing to trade for him. Novel concept isn't it.
  17. Freo have already had Nathan Carroll (and disposed of him, we worked out long ago that he's not much good) plus he doesn't fit in wit the 'youth' policy that is currently in vogue (it's not just Melbourne who are looking to youth). The West Australian is reporting today that Warnock is not expected to go to Melbourne, even if he does return to Victoria. Carlton are making a big play for him, but he still hasn't decided to leave Freo.
  18. If a player nominates his terms prior to entering the PSD then the club that selects him has to meet those terms, or at the very least has to include them in their TPP. If a club selected a player and then reneged on those terms I would think the club would be in all sorts of trouble. Another hypothetical if a player like Brown did end up in the PSD and nominated a very high contract amount, what would that do to teams being eligible to select him? The AFL has to give approval for clubs to participate in the PSD based on TPP estimates. If a club was approved to participate and could afford all other players but would exceed the cap by selecting Brown, could the AFL exclude them from being able to select him?
  19. You may get him for free trade wise, but I don't think he'll play for you for nothing.
  20. If he nominates for the PSD he can also nominate his price. It's also worth noting that the WA media are hardly solid reference points for anything.
  21. So little in fact, that he's overseen a turnaround from an $8m debt (yes, $8m, that's more than half your club's current debt over again) to around $7m in the bank. Freo has also more than doubled their membership in his time and has more corporate sponsors than they know what to do with. I was less than impressed when he was appointed, but his off-field record at Freo is second to none. I realise that it's very different running a club in Melbourne than it is in Perth, but I'm sure if you have both Connolly and Schwab on board they will do everything in their power to help turn your club around too.
  22. That's our traditional jumper though, the only one that hasn't changed since the beginning. There is actually meaning behind the red and green (be it starboard/port on a ship or the reference to the Italian heritage in Freo). As I said above, the AFL is at fault for allowing this jumper to be used, but it's now our jumper and we are as attached to it as your club is to yours. I like the white with purple anchor, but I find the purple with white anchor to be very, very dark and it is really only used for our Starlight Purple Haze day.
  23. I'd have to disagree with this Swampfox. There is a definite clash with the main Freo jumper with the dark background (purple/navy blue) even to the backs of the jumpers with the red across the top - on a less than sunny day it can be quite difficult telling them apart. Melbourne could probably quite rightly argue that Freo should be forced to wear their clash strip and question why the AFL approved the Freo jumper in the first place given the clash, but we all know that's not how it works.
  24. Thanks Chook. I'm afraid I've succumbed to a bad dose of tankitis and am struggling to see any benefit in winning any more games this season (if only to prevent a loss of Warnock to your club for a lot less than his value). I'm sure it will be a good tussle though as I don't think either the Dees or the Dockers have given up yet. What little midfield we had (Palmer) is out this week, so unless some of Carr, Peake or Schammer work out how to play football again, or Pav singlehandedly does it himself, I can't see how Freo can pull off a win.
