The Green issue has three outcomes and I hope it is not the last one

1)He stays

2)We trade him for top 25 pick

3)He stuffs us around and goes into the preseason draft and we get nothing

Option 3 can happen and if he doesn't commit this morning trade quickly don't leave to the last minute and miss out.

No he does not.

"It's a difficult one for Greeny, but we're confident he will stay at Melbourne," Connolly said.

The 100% bulldust comment was made about the rumour concerning Melbourne trading Aaron Davey to Port Adelaide for pick 4.

BBP was referring to Y_M's Davey rumour.

As for Green, I find him walking in to the PSD unlikely. Either we'll find a club who agrees to his terms and we'll trade him, and if that doesn't happen I think he'll settle for what's on offer.

from realfooty.com:

One scenario raised last night would see Green head to Sydney, O'Keefe to Hawthorn and ruckman Simon Taylor and the Hawks' pick 16 going to Melbourne. While it is unclear how interested Green is in moving interstate, Sydney — without O'Keefe's $450,000 salary — would have the room to make a move attractive.

Nasher don't believe that he wont walk into the preseason draft, if he cant decide today and then a deal cant be reached with the MFC he goes to WCE or Femantle for nothing. WE need to pressure him to decide this morning or trade straight away, if we get nothing for him the club will be shattered.

That article states an offer of 1.1m over 3 years. Get Real.

It would be more like 1.5m over 3 years. Otherwise, who exactly is getting the $7m we have to pay in the cap.

Green will be on $450,000 - $500,000 if he is re-signed.

The Hawks are trying to get more room in their cap, they can send Taylor to Sydney. He is no improvement on Jamar and it would make the deal fairer.

If Sydney want him...

If we got pick 16 and Taylor we have won.

Pick 16 would be great, and Taylor while no superstar could work quite well with PJ. He is better than Jamar/Meeson. Maybe he could hold down the fort while we wait for Spencer or another drafted kid to develop.

Damn players rights!! Ideally, I'd ship Green off to Sydney for pick 16 and be done with it, but he wants to have his cake and eat it too - wants to leave the Dees, but not leave the city of Melbourne. Wants to go to a contender, but not Sydney. He's shown us no consideration throughout this whole process - we've got less than 28 hours to work out a deal for him, and he's still umming and ahhing about what he wants to do. I wouldn't put it past him to head into the PSD. This doesn't mean I want to ditch him for pick 29 and a packet of stale apricot chews, but we can't afford to have him waltz into the PSD and get nothing. Much of the onus is on him now. The longer he continues in his dithering ways, the less likely a positive result for him and the club is.

I'd prefer that Brad Green stays at Melbourne - he's a good player, goes when it's his turn (contrary to some belief), is a good trainer and is supposed to be a good guy.

Now we have offered him $1.1M over 3 years, that's a very fair deal - he should jump at it to be a one team player and who knows maybe even do a Crawf in 2012.

By all appearances it's all about the money for him, or more likely for his manager. I'm unimpressed.

I know, Old. Maybe I'm getting antsy because his procrastination has left us with some hasty work to do. If I see an article appear today saying that he's re-signed, I'll be happy. I'm just not sure how likely that is at this stage.

Agree. It's not as if his position at the club has become untenable, and he's walked out on the club. Either a suitable trade will be arranged, or he'll stay with the club.

I absolutely agree with you - I'm getting [censored] off with him too.

We've offered him a very fair deal.

He's using the trade period as an auction and holding us over a barrel knowing he has our bid in reserve.

It just doesn't sound like the great guy he is supposed to be - maybe he's being ill-advised?

Anyway if he's not going to stay then we need to get fair recompense.

There is a bit of vitriol about Green at both D'ology and here.

He will be on more than 1.1m over three years if he stays, that is a very conservative number that was mentioned in the paper.

If he goes, it will not be for money. He won't get a better deal anywhere else.

I have been an advocate for trading him but he is not going to leave because of money. Let's get that straight.

If he does go, it will be for his career and the prospect of playing in a premiership.

Not good enough for many of us to leave the Dees, but understandable.

So would you let him go through to the PSD with your stance?

Well if push came to shove, ofcourse I'd settle for pick 25 rather than the PSD. But the MFC should do everything it can in securing a 15-20 draft pick for him. Perhaps even persuading Green to request his new club to compensate MFC in the best way possible...if that makes sense?

If Green was a decent bloke, he would ensure that MFC got the pick they thought was fair for Green.

I think MFC will be doing everything in its power to get the best deal possible. But it has to be smart about it.

Of course we have won on that deal if it happens. Which is why more than likely it probably won't happen. It's reported that Swans want that pick 16 so they may deal direct with the Hawks.

Does it add up? O'Keefe to Hawks, Green to Syd, Pick 16 and Taylor to Dees? IMO there would have to be one, maybe two other picks included. ie Perhaps our pick 35 or 51 to Sydney.

Green might finally make up his mind, for once - Melbourne increasing their offer in recent weeks might sway him to stay.

edit: RR is right, Melbourne have to be smart about it.

Yeah I agree HT. When you look at that, Melbourne are clear winners, and Sydney clear losers. Green for O'Keefe is definitely a loss, O'Keefe for pick 16 is about right IMO, and pick 16 and Taylor for Green is a definite win for us (even without Taylor). So you'd think Sydney would demand more than just Green, they'd be unlikely to take this the way it is. Unfortunately for us, I don't know if pick 35 would be enough. If we had a pick in the 20s, then maybe that would do.

Green > o'Keefe

O'Keefe is severely overrated.

Would do nothing in a crap team.

Unlike Green who shone this season.

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th
