Don't know if he was right for the job as he was not there long. However, i like the way JS is going about his business, getting the people around him that he wants, not just puts up with who is there.

I think it’s really disappointing.

We should have at least found another one to take over straight away

And waited until the end of the year.

agree with that, end of year

Not going to happpen with the whispers growing louder.

Mike Sheahan revealed it and it would be constantly discussed, best to make the decision public when it was made privately.

Fox is untried, so I guess assurances have been made by Schwab that he will takeover.

We are an embarrassment.

Please, let this be the end of it.

I'm not at all critical of this. We've got a new guy come in and take control of the organization. If he believes part of it isn't up to his standard or doesn't fit in with what he wants to do, he can change it. No matter how long they've been a part of the company. Macca fit in with Gardner's vision, not Stynes'.

Why is everyone so sad and devastated about this?

Paul Mac.. i didnt hear a peep out of other than an idea of having a kid day>? wow i could do that!

Paul Gardiner is the reason for all these poor decisions. Only good thing he did was appoint Bailey as the coach in my mind.

Good on stynes to clean up the mess as quickly as possible and to start the search for a qualified person who has been in the industry and understands what it takes to run a football club.

Jimmy you have my backing and i applaud the tough decisions being made now not in 12 months.

Lighten up everyone.

Surely the new Board would have only taken such a dramatic, controversial and costly step if it had good reasons. Or do some of the posters here think they are all crazy?

Surely by now we should have no faith that the old Board got the appointment right.

So give Jim a break. He's clearing the decks so we can start afresh. Hopefully he has got it right.

Judge ONLY by the outcome over the next year or so.

It was one quick idea, early in the season as a means of getting more people through the gates. It's not as if his whole strategy was based around this idea, but rather a quick and simple idea that seemed to be pretty popular and successful given the number of people on the ground after the game.

Maybe I'm alone, but I don't want a running commentary of discussion on the tenure of staff played out in members emails or constant press releases.

You are definitely not alone Rogue.

It was better than what we had in the years before.

Just because you haven't heard of anything else doesn't mean it's not happened.

Stynes highlighted McNamee's work on the Casey Fields project, and strengthening ties with the MCC.

True but thats not a lot is it for the position our club is in right now?

We need someone who has been there done that and get things done quickly, who knows football.

I still think the Wimbledon trip is the thing that tipped jimmy and board over the edge, when everyone else was working hard to try turn things around our CEO goes away and plays tennis, all during the most important yet dark times for our club.

The issue is we do not have that much time, we are on our last gasps if we do not stop loosing money hand over fist. As one poster pointed out how much of our debt over the last two years has been to do with covering costs of employees we've moved on? Close to $1.5/$2mill?

And if you want to judge Jim over a year or so why would Paul Mac not get the same time frames from the board?

I don't know if it is a right or wrong choice but my goodness from the outside looking in we still look a mess.

The reasoning behind the descision might be sound but at the same time I hope we can get someone into the role very very quickly, if a board member is running the day to day CEO function, it would surprise me if he had the time to do an exceptional job if he has a day job....

The other worry is Casey, how does this affect that going forward? Is this going to be the 3rd person (Spargo) from the club who has been in charge of it now? Casey must be a little concerned with that.

This footy club is going down the toilet.

I've never been so distressed about the MFC. The first 450,000 raised by debt demolition can go towards paying out our CEO's.

How could he be on such ludicrous salary? 8 teachers wages that is.

Same old boys club that has always reeked from our club.

Curse of the Norm indeed

I'm trusting Jimmy Stynes' approach on this. I was never a fan of Paul Gardiner, and think Paul McNamee being hired by Gardiner had the same 'vision'. You can tell Jimmy Stynes is well and truly focused at taking this club places.

Jimmy, if you're reading this...give Cameron Schwab another go. He was the very same guy who brought us Diamond Joe Gutnick....

If the SEN rumour - mentioned earlier in the thread - is correct, MacNamee wasn't the #1 choice after this search, but PG took him on board.

This is the crux of the matter.

Jim Stynes was furious when MacNamee was selected, PG not listening to his team.

He is rectifying the situation.

I personally have no problem with it because I disagreed with his appointment.

I agree with Tez- regardless of the rightness or wrongness of the decision (and we really dont know enough to say one way or the other), the way its all come about is a big worry. If the new board were keen to get rid of McNamee from day one, then they obviously meant to keep a lid on it so that they could put the feelers out and get as good of an idea as possible about potential replacements before publicly announcing a decision. It looks like someone in the know (possibly even a board member) might have blown that plan out of the water by leaking it to Sheahan, forcing the club to announce the decision sooner than they would have liked.

The fact that there has been no mention of a possible change of CEO in the media until yesterday, that McNamee himself only found out about it through the media, and that Stynes' press conference was announced only after PM's sacking was common knowledge -in short, the whole way this situation has been handled- screams of panic.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
