Just heard on Radio that Richard Pratt has been charged via summons for lying to the ACCC over price fixing allegations in 2005.

The plot thickens, surely if true and convicted he isn't fit to hold a gaming licence or be President of a trading concern?

It is curious that is most walks of life , especially anywhere public accountability is required that in such a situation the individual is suspended from duties til the whole thing cleared. This is done without prejudice but simply good governance. Still. this is carlton we're talking of <_<

Yeah, heard that as well. Had to laugh when I heard that fine upstanding pillar of the community in John Elliot come out and say it was 'tall poppy syndrome', and what a great bloke he is. Can't wait till Rodney Adler, Allan Bond, Steve Vizard and Glenn Wheatley come out in support for thier victimised mate.

Who was the guy that wanted two teams in Western U.S.A.?

Maybe we could move Carlton to Las Vegas

It's not going to change the fact that Carlton cheated their way to the 2011 premiership.

damn decent of the crook ( alledged, of course..lol )

Amazes me me that some think its OK to be a crook ( alledged ) so long as you're a phrilanthropist.

Doesnt wash with me though.

Easy to be generous when you're rich, even easier if it's stolen money you're using to be generous

I think we can call him a crook becuase he has already been found guilty and fined for the price fixing.

The new case is because he lied about it to the ACCC.

I do find it strange though that he got fined for the price fixing; fined a very insignificant amount for him in what effectively was the theft of a enourmous amount of money from the the Australian public. And now he faces 4 years jail for lying to a hearing about it. Does that men that lying is a far, far, far more naughty thing than stealing???

Lying under oath is.

Lying under oath is.

4 years is quite light. I think the max is 10 years for perjury..?? maybe legal beagles can confirm.

The courts take a dim view ( quite rightly ) on the transgression of this basic tenet of the judicial sytem.

In the tradition of John Elliot, salary cap breaches and tanking, Carlton is financially backed by an alleged criminal.

What a great club.

the picture in that article shows that money can't buy taste

you'd think all those stolen billions would be enough for a decent hair stylist for his wife

not to mention that ghastly scarf he's wearing...

Nothing to do with MFC. Delete the topic.

Don't be so precious and pedantic.

It's a big footy story. And their salary cap diving and tanking did directly affect us.

So it's not exclusively about the MFC. Big deal.

Please note. He has not yet been found guilty so he should not be called a "criminal" or a cheat until such time as the law says so.

Actually..as he has been found guilty by Justice Heerey on November 2, 2007 for price fixing i think you probably can !!

Technically no because that was not a criminal charge. He has now been charged under summons and faces a custodial term if found guilty. In those circumstances he would become a criminal.

Although his name has certainly taken a pounding I doubt whether he'll ever share a cell with Tony Mokbel.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
