Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

It is pretty sad to say but on current form I don`t think any of the Leadership group deserve to be the next permanent Leader of our club! On form alone this year Brad Green has probably been the most consistent performer despite being dropped from the leadership group but he is not Captain material. Help me out here , I am seriously scratching my head as to who deserves it right now!

Going forward next year we must take the course of action that we did when Viney retired in 1999 and named Neitz for 2000. Get youth and enthusiasm into the captaincy, and none of this co-captain crap!

For me, it's Brock McLean all the way.

PS. no one is worthy to replace Neitz!

Next Year's skipper simply must be Jonathon Brown or Matthew Pavolich

It's quite sad that we have noone really capable.

however i think it has to be Cam Bruce.

sure he has poor disposal, BUT...

- he is our best player

- he plays out of the middle (not so much this season though)

- he gets the ball alot

- he runs his guts out all day which is good example to others

all the others in our leadership group have major major defects.

Mclean would be great except he simply isn't good enough a footballer to be captain

How on earth can people want Bruce to be captain. His kicking alone should have him dropped! Forget the captaincy

Agreed 100%

It would be worse than Vandenberg being names Hawthorn skipper.

How about the selfless bloke who has won our last 2 B+F's?

James McDonald over Bruce and Green easily.

Rivers, too injured. Brock, too stupid. Jones, too young.

Left field choice would be Aaron Davey...

Junior is very quiet and based on his form this year may only have another year in him.

Cam Bruce is OK as spokesman but not as captain as too selfcentred.

As just noted on SEN problem with all the contenders is no evident leaders there..

are all very quiet guys. Also some like Jared can get on the park consistently!

Aaron is definitely an option as far as having leadership quality is concerned.

Greg Debnam(?) suggesting maybe MFC will need to import a player to take the leadership like Blues did with Judd. Problem is who would we atttract and be able to pay for.

I assume Bruce and McDonald will continue as caretakers until the end of the year.

By the start of 2009 however I'd like to think that McLean would have staked his claim.

My leadership group for 2009:

Brock McLean (Captain)

Jared Rivers

Matthew Bate

Nathan Jones

Ricky Petterd

Too early to have Petterd in there, i like the rest though. And it would probably be a good idea to put some experience in there so i hope Green can forced his way back in.

I'll throw up a smokey, and not necessarily an option i would take but based on this year he could be amongst it.

Brad Miller

As i said, not a choice i would make, however Bails obviously rates him and he hasn't looked completely incompetent this year. If he continues to present and show a bit of aggression he could at least be an option as a temporary captain while the likes of Brock, Jones and Bate grow up.

Ricky Pettard !! On what grounds ?? He doesn't yet warrant a game in our best 20 at we're stone motherless last ! McLean would want to show a lot more yet - Bate & Jones have both gone past him IMO but none are yet ready..more likely Green, Bruce (or Miller) in the meantime

I wouldn't put Petterd in there until he becomes more of a permanent fixture in the team. I like the rest though.

I think Petterd is a fixture in the team when fit, but i agree it's too early to make him a leader of the club, especially if he can't get his body right.

Too much pressure if nothing else

Agree. I've jumped the gun with Petterd although he does have leadership potential.

Lets make it McLean (captain), Miller, Rivers, Bate and Jones.

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
