  1. hi all, the experience was awesome, he really enjoyed the players and it gave him an insight on what is needed to be elite. The coaches were happy with what they saw. Some of the questions that were asked of him was his height, and predicted height. We did a bone test on him about 3 years ago, and his predicted height will be around the 211 cm mark, fully grown. So we keep praying for that. Overall the Melbourne players really got around the academy boys, and made them feel part of the team and we couldn't be more thankful to be part of a great bunch of men.

  2. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to all Demonlanders. It’s been a tough year for our beloved club. Let’s hope we can bounce back in 2020. I want to thank our Mods @Nasher, @Whispering_Jack, @Grapeviney, @george_on_the_outer. They go above and beyond in their tireless work of keeping the forum civil and a friendly, inviting and inclusive place. Things can get heated in here especially in the tough times and the mods do a great job of keeping the peace. Thanks to my Podcast cohosts @Grapeviney, @Supermercado & @george_on_the_outer. It’s a tough job having to front up week in week out when you only win 5 games so thank you guys for not bailing on me. A big big thank you to our regular preseason trackwatchers @kev martin, @Baghdad Bob, @Satyriconhome, @DeeSpencer & anyone else who I’ve missed out. This year you guys have raised the bar and I look forward to your reports in the New Year. A million thank yous. And lastly but certainly not least thank you to all of you who make up this wonderful community. This forum is nothing without its contributors. Hopefully 2020 brings us that elusive Premiership so that we can all bitch about the cup not being shiny enough together. Bring on 2020. ???

  5. When TMac kicked that goal, I ran the length of the house, jumped and fist pumped like an idiot, and when I went to run back, I slipped and put my heel through the plasterboard in my hallway. It always brings a smile to my face whenever I see my slightly off colour patch up job.

  6. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to all. It's the generally good natured banter on Demonland that helps get us through seasons like this. Nothing like a good argument or difference of opinion. Also nothing like some of the really informative stuff we get to share such as the training reports and well founded rumours (scoops). Thanks to the crew for making it all happen & thanks to the majority of posters for making it an enjoyable experience.

  10. You’re the bloke who told everyone that this time last year the team was going just fine. Just because you attend training means nothing to me. I’m extremely grateful for the terrific insights of the other track watchers - just not yours. Don’t be upset by that, I’m only being pragmatic.

  11. Round 14 2017. The night he played a game the likes of Fyfe, Dangerfield and Martin dominate, as we had one of the all time great wins of this club. Would be amazing if he can return to that kind of form after a (touchwood) finally strong pre season.

  23. If your only metric is money then sure mills might be happier. But it is unlikely pendles only metric is money or else he would have picked bball . He's playing the game he loves. In front of massive crowds. Who love him. He gets to live in Australia, in his home town. And sleep most of the year in his own bed. Occasional trips to Perth but otherwise short plane rides and max one night in a hotel. Plays one game a week. On the money front would be a multi millionaire by the time his career finishes. Would have opportunities to go into media post career (unlike patty, probably). And how much money do you need? Is there a sliding scale of happiness the more millions you have? I reckon both would be equally happy with their choices.

  24. hi all, Deakin Pereira is my son. He stands around the 201 cm mark. He has just turned 17 in september. He takes a size 18 shoe. He has not touched a footy for nearly one and a half years. We were blessed to come to Train with Melbourne for 3 days and Deakin really enjoyed it. He is a basketballer and there have been numerous offers to play bball in the US. At present we are waiting on offers to go to a prep school in the USA. Deakin really enjoyed the challenge at Melbourne and time will tell if he sways back to AFL. the above photo is not him.

  26. We have good quality depth combined in Brayshaw, Harmes, Petracca and Viney to jointly “cover” his clearance and contested ball winning ability and class. Preuss could do enough to negate at the hitouts but I think you are seriously underestimating Gawns impact around the ground particularly behind the ball.

  27. Well with just week 17 (3 points) to go up to 6 participants can still win the tipping comp (remembering that we can have multiple winners) ... podium places are still up for grabs as well. I'm tipping there will be a few 'left-field' tips this week as that's what might be required to win the 'coveted' prize. Good luck to all and thanks for playing. Have a safe and prosperous Christmas & New Year (and don't forget that we've traditionally conducted a post-season tipping comp with predicted scorelines etc - more on that later) Leaderboard in the Tipping Comp 13 - JV7 12 - Gorgoroth, Dee Zephyr 10 - Go the Biff, Layzie, Macca 9 - Clintosaurus 8 - Dappa Dan 4 - DeeSpencer

  28. Brilliant read! Mr Demonblog is a seriously funny and talented writer. Only at Melbourne can you have three 90 point wins (in 2011) and end the season in crisis.

  31. An accumulator of the footy with elite disposal, peripheral vision and decision making isn’t going to be delisted at the end of the season no matter what happens this season. The fact his professionalism is off the charts for his age and he has a pretty good tank leave me confident of where he is headed.

  32. This plus finishing fourth enter the final series with the experts admitting "they overlooked the team but haven't they performed well but will go out in straight sets" Goody says "finals are a new season" and unveils completely new set of players from the Casey Squad who haven't played the last three rounds in the ones in the mid field, with Max and Pruess at full forward, Trac OliverFritsch at their feet . Jackson plays a blinder as ruck rover with Kossie just bursting away from the packs through the hole tha Viney has created. This revolutionary style modelled on American football tactics confounds the opposition. When GWS prepare for it in the Grand Final Goody pulls another surprise and reverts to a new soccer/ hockey possession game which frustrates the opposition who while trying to wrest back some control give away free kick after free kick as the umpires finally recognise that Melbourne players have backs and heads. The winning margin is so one sided the experts agree that "this is the worst side to ever win a flag"and "it's understandable that none of them are in AA or Brownlow contention" Filled with confidence the team remains undefeated for the next six years and is the first complete team to comprise the AA team.. AFL institutes new ruling that teams that finish on top are relegated last on the ladder, umpires are not to pay free kicks to Melbourne players unless they are so baby injured they can't take the kick and it is thrown up. Essendon take advantage of the rule change but draw the grand final against Fremantle who win by default as they swapped place with Collingwood who unfortunately finished on top of the ladder. I think it's getting a little too close to Christmas. Hope Santa brings you you want you want. MERRY XMAS GO DEES,!!!!!!

  33. by my quick calculation it was 74 wins for the decade ... take out 2017 and 2018 and.... well you don't want to know PS.. we won 72 games during the '70's so perhaps we are on the way up

  34. As someone who got suspended from this site for using a term which rhymes with a four letter word beginning with f and finishing with k - oh, yes, not THE word but , I repeat, a word which rhymed with it - I commend the Censors on Demonland for allowing the many swear words on this blog to remain intact. is it a sign that Demonland now accepts common community standards? Why, I even heard dem words on the ABC!!!!

  36. I know it's hard to go past the two finals wins, but for the moment of pure elation, I still find it difficult to pip watching that 50m bomb from Dean Kent go through the middle against WC Rd22 2018. I'd like to think that we don't have so many of these types of wins going forward, because we have played the sort of solid H&A seasons that put us securely into the top 8 well before Rd22 in a steady controlled build that puts us into the best position to go all the way in September, but I'm not sure that's really the MFC...I live in hope.

  37. Yep it's good that Max didn't nurse hmself but I don't believe you can wrap em up in bubble wrap either. If this activity keeps him vibrant, positive and in good spirits it's ok by me. Enjoy yourself and keeping agile and fit at the same time is all good

  38. Not exactly the question that was asked but if you were looking for the 4 players you would most want to be there for 22 games and then some I would say Gawn, Langdon, May and T-Mac. All 4 are high quality and have significant gap to the next up in their role.

  40. Everybody can wrap their heads around what was in fact, in my opinion, a stupid post This whole thread is asking for opinion, I think Jordon will develop into a very very good player, top 4 this year, maybe not, delisted absolutely not We have a very talented list, whether they would get a game in another team, I really don't care, as it is just an exercise in opinion I just want the talent to be on display consistently this year

  43. The prospect of having to hear for the rest of his life that he finished 3rd in the Brownlow one year, should be a sufficient motivating force to get back to his best and surpass that crowning achievement. ?

  44. I'm all for off-season musings, but this is a bit of an outdated and simplistic way of analyzing lists I reckon. Even very good sides typically only have a handful of superstars and maybe another half dozen clearly above-average players. The bottom 6-10 players in good teams aren't world beaters, but play a role that utilizes their strengths and doesn't expose their weaknesses. In that sense, most of Melbourne's best 22 would at least be in the frame of Richmond's best 22. Oliver is probably a better player than, say, Cotchin, but would replacing Cotchin with Oliver improve Richmond? Doubt it. Our list is good enough on paper to go deep in finals. Pretty much anyone that knows footy accepts this. Getting it to click is the hard part. On topic: Gawn Oliver May (GC version) Tmac (2018 version)

  45. I am not an orthopod or a physio but the plantaris is a tiny muscle amongst some big company. (I tore mine once and it hurt like hell for a few weeks but hadn’t bothered me since, not that I run or jump much.) But as I understand it its tendon can somehow irritate the big boys around it (soleus and gastrocnemius) without causing them permanent damage. The theory behind the surgery seems to be that removing the irritant allows the main muscles to go on unhindered. Kossie’s tackling technique, around the hips, looks great and will cause a good deal of grief especially for those with less core strength than CP5. Deeman. I had hoped to do just that but the link to the article wouldn’t open. Sure. Nice photo, but was that guy ever any good? After all didn't the Hawks delist him? ??

  46. Well today mine turned up and probably because I had been prepared by this thread I am happy. Yep little more than the membership card but I can remember that is not so long ago that is all you got. Will one of us not buy a membership without all the bibs and bobs of recent years? I seriously doubt it. For 2020 all I want is to win 12- 14 games and play finals everything else is superfluous.

  47. It highlights the importance of keeping a heap of currency if you want to move up. The future 4th was only ever going to move pick 30 by 2-3 spots. Calling Carlton and Richmond was a bit of a laugh, although in fairness to our recruiters they seemed to know that. Robertson's slide and Rivers getting to our pick is an advertisement for being patient. I think the smartest set up would be to have extra 2nd round picks on offer to make moves if needed but also to group players in ranges and not go too hard too early if you have options Trade back and still get a player you really like, then use the extra picks to get the next guys on your board..
    1 point
  48. Interesting we were trying to trade up to get Robertson but didn’t have any currency to get it done. We also thought Rivers would be gone too. It was always going to be Jackson and Kozzie with our first picks it seems!
