  1. I was there, but if there's a worse place to watch footy than Casey I haven't found it. There were 5 in the main rehab group, namely Gawn, Petracca, Fullarton, Woewodin and Lever. Laurie was running laps by himself, as was Jefferson. Chandler, as has been reported, had his arm in a sling. Lindsay did a bit of lap running later on. Some of the ''rehab 5'' participated in non contact drills and ball movement at the beginning of training, but when the more intense contest work started they retreated to the boundary and did short kicking to a player being hindered and bumped before they broke away for the short hitup. This was interspersed with lap running. The match sims mainly comprised of getting the ball out of D50 through either the wings, or a 45 kick through the middle. Generally the skills were pretty good, but no team would be training without the odd turnover. Once there was a turnover the forwards were spotted with passes or there were long kicks to advantage. Players swapped from white tops to red and back again. On multiple occasions. And with many wearing caps it's not easy to pick up every player all the time. The players I noticed the most were Viney, who stands out. But he was also very involved. Windsor is used a lot, moves fast and looks confident. He missed the odd target, but looks great and generally uses it well. I like Kynan Brown, but he did make a few poor decisions. But he does enough good stuff to not sweat a few errors. He's a second year player, after-all. And these errors were split seconds kicks in congestion, which was part of the drill. Billings got leather poisoning. He's good when he's dancing with his sister. Mentha surprised me. He looked better than I expected, but did cough it up under pressure. With small forwards it's AFL pressure that makes or breaks them. Too early to tell. Tom McDonald looks very good and dependable down back. Bowey got stacks of it and played in defence. May was the general and intercepted well. Rivers played midfield and looks assured. Oliver is definitely leaner and fitter. He still has his big physique, but it's much closer to normal. Was involved without being dominant. I love the look of Langford. He moves really nicely, marks well and just has that class most left footers possess. He and Rivers spent time on each other. He'll be fine competing against men from day one such is his strength and build. The only other player I wanted to mention was Salem. He was moving really nicely and looked like the 2021 version. He just looks fit and unhampered. Even when he played last year he didn't look right. May used him a lot as that first 20 metre outlet kick from deep defence along with Bowey. I didn't see Pickett and I didn't notice McVee, but he may have been there.

  10. I know it was just a praccy match out at Casey but he snagged a couple of beautys in his first appearance to suggest that goal kicking isn’t foreign to Brown.

  12. Photos are up. AJ looks like he is auditioning for Nux's part in Fury Road. Look out Brayden! Some terrific images amongst the ordinaire. Jakie Melksham gets aerial. Young Verrall has muscled up. Plus battle of the tree trunk thighs goes femoral.

  13. Agree. And the reality is we haven't lost that many players in the last few years because they wanted to return to their home state. Working backwards, nibbla, Jackson and maybe Hogan? Am I missing someone? If not, that's 3 in aprox 10 years. I reckon in that same period we've traded in more vic players from interstate sides than vice versa - langdon, Lever, sharp all immediately come to mind.

  20. I think you're right and that repeat speed is the thing I've been most impressed with. I haven't seen enough of his ability in front of goal but I think there is more than enough there to be a menacing pressure man.

  22. I’ll think of you, but not while I’m turning the snags coz I won’t be turning the snags because apparently snags burnt beyond recognition aren’t appetising I’m till-b!ttchh so I’ll think of you while I’m handing our first customer $97 in change for a snag in bread, paid with a $100 note. This happens more often than you’d think. 😭 Enjoy cranking the waves and fish, whatever the hell that means.

  25. Correct. Look at Bailey Smith, Vic boy but he has still left the Doggies. You have to back in your club to create a fantastic environment so players want to stay. Won't work out every time, but if you are too scared to pick players because they grew up in another state then you have big issues as a club.

  27. Might be a Tom McDonald thing. Once ypon a time I was at a cafe at one of those fashionable giant semi-communal tables and Tom was sitting opposite me the entire I leafed through the football news and checked demonland on my phone. I was even wearing the scarf. He enjoyed the double-take when I finally twigged as I was getting up.

  28. Mid-season draft watch on for Culley, George (if he actually signs w/Casey weird situ atm), Hardie especially — As for other signing great to see some genuine goalkicking fwds signed I can’t wait to see Casey contend this year! Add in fringe Dees and it’s on like donkey kong!!! Let’s say Lindsay (but cld still be R1 demon he’s that talented deal Ltd prep), A fit McAdam (although he may play R1-3 while Kos is out & make a perm spot still think he’s super talented), Adams looks much better developed this year, Campbell, say Billings or Smith, AJ (another who may sneak into R1 calc if pre-season is anything to go by but if so someone else falls out to Casey anyways, Yze perm fixture, Jeffo who’s knocking on door of debut.. it’s gonna be exciting and more pertinently exponentially help Dev of Sestan, AMW, Verrall, Howes etc 👏🏻

  35. The plan this year is to not having to rely on small mercurial forwards having to win a lot of games this year, but more orthodox willing participants to all play their roles. Let's see what happens.

  41. Campbell is at his 4th club. If he was good enough to be in our starting 22 he wouldn’t be on our list. I think he’s a nice player and excellent addition but I’m realistic about his role.

  43. a bit different with macquarie point though, jim. it is essentially part of the cbd. but i don't know if there is much state owned land around it to sell/develop. the adjacent cenotaph area is probably locked up in a trust. might be difficult.

  44. The grab I saw from Albo's presser also indicated that the Federal commitment to the Tassie stadium was a fixed figure ($240 m) so (1) not a surprising comment and (2) throws a large issue back to the Tasmanian State government. Instructive for us as the Caulfield project develops - assuming there will be a sizeable (much smaller than Tassie of course) contribution from the Feds?

  45. None of these players are stopping XL playing once fit. If Windsor can step straight in and be best 22 from game 1 XL will have no problem.
