JJ deserves some love and at the time of posting he hasn't re-signed with the club. Jordon's contract is set to expire at the end of 2023 and the midfielder is eligible for free agency given he was delisted and re-signed at the end of 2020. The Demons have re-signed ten players so far, with eight other players coming off contract at the end of 2023. Given his limited chances to break into the side no one would begrudge him looking for more opportunities elsewhere. He is too good for VFL footy and places in the Demon's star studded midfield are limited. Clayton Oliver's absence with a hamstring injury and Christian Petracca's move to the forward line on a part time basis have afforded JJ more opportunities to show his wares and he has relished that opportunity and shown he is more than capable in fulfilling a midfield role. Essendon, the Gold Coast and now Sydney are reportedly interested in securing JJ's services. Hopefully he re-signs with the Demons.11 points

This is a forum discussing all things to do with the MFC and it's players. I have always posted and will continue to post anything that relates to the MFC and it's players for discussion. They've barely played a dozen games together. The idea that any of Grundy, Gawn or the club have made up their minds on the experiment at this stage is pretty hard to believe. Grundy is more cerebral than most players, and would have come into this situation with his eyes wide open about the risks and rewards. Let the media chase their tails with their silly stories - the real yarn is watching how it all unfolds over the coming months, at the selection table and on the field.9 points

Come on now, are you comparing the disposal efficiency of inside mids to an outside runner? Clarry and Trac basically average twice as many contested possessions as Smith. And I know you are not comparing these two champion footballers to him. I know you are not! I can’t even talk about how wrong this comparison is. The guy is struggling to get a game over Oscar Baker. Compare him to Ed Langdon who has a 73% disposal efficiency or Hunter at 66.7% Edit: and for [censored] and giggles, ANB has a better disposal efficiency too at 64.5% 😂9 points

Thanks rpfc. I am genuinely perplexed with some of the reactions on here, to the point where it's like they've taken it personal? It's generating stories purely because; 1. The move in itself was controversial with the way it was handled by one of the biggest clubs in the land in Collingwood. Grundy was their heart and sole layer and spiritual leader you could say. He didn't want to go, but the club (Collingwood) made a decision based on what they thought would be beneficial for their salary cap. It's paid off them and they look like winners out of it which is fine imo. You then take into consideration with his contract situation and the money he's on and how much we were still willing to pay a quarter of it also. It created clicks at the time and is still doing so now. 2. The argument around at the time was why Melbourne? We already had one top dog in Gawn and you're genuinely bringing in pretty much the same player. I was totally against this move right from the very start because like me and a few others, I couldn't see how this could simply work. The talk was Gawn was going was to spend more time forward, but he's never shown any good forward craft in his career. We've now found ourselves in a situation where the club has identified that it simply hasn't worked yet, doesn't mean it won't ever. The move in itself is legit Brayden Pruess all over again. Bringing in another genuine ruckman and thinking that you'll fit them both in by playing either up forward who both don't have the forward craft ability. I think we should at least learnt from this which unfortunately we haven't. My last thought in all of this and have said it a few times, the move is bold by Goodwin. He knew this was going to create a headline and could mount a case that yeah, maybe it is a distraction, but he's made a decision based on what's best for the footy club moving forward and I actually love it. Based on the evidence Friday night, it could turn out to be a decision that goes a long way in becoming the difference to moving us one step forward to winning the flag?9 points

I would love to get him, he’s the best defender in the country, but is being played in other positions due to recruiters requests on seeing him utilised elsewhere. His size is a huge factor from midfield upside perspective and his reading of the ball in flight make him a potential midfield/forward match up nightmare moving forward. Hes a level headed kid, who has poise in traffic and is developing his contested game in the middle. Further to this he leaves no stone unturned in his preparation. Closest I can compare him to with his skill set, size and flexibility is Matthew Pavlich. West Coast are very keen on him though8 points

If JJ goes, it'll be because he wants to. He's an FA, so the mistake wouldn't be ours. There are only so many players that can fit into 22/23.8 points

This whole “he was sold a pup” thing is ridiculous IMO. He’s not stupid. He knew what he was signing up for. He wasn’t forced to come here. Sure, we laid out a plan, but he’s more then smart enough to have thought “this might not work”. The risk of it not working was a risk he knew about and signed up for.8 points

Probably the most boring read of any game preview I've come across. Up to page 12 and still not a word for next week’s game. Their fans have all but given up on the season and now turning on a few of their players. Thank you Rory, you've been a wonderful player, but shouldn't be selected again Changes??? I couldn't care less anymore. The only changes I'm interested in are changes at the end of the year. Continuity matters. Still mathematical finals chance. No change. That will absolutely loose me Why bother even starting this thread. when we know that sloane, sholl, murphy, mchenry are going absolutely fxxkn nowhere. they wont be dropped. Not a fxxkn chance. I would think so highly of Rory if he announced his retirement this week. Or that he didn't want to be picked, and will play 2s for the rest of this year. And maybe next. I have no idea what they can do with Sloane. He's miles of it, but there seems to be some delusion about where he's at. Powaa has no problem dropping their captain. Sloane isn't even captain and the club is scared of the reaction from the Facebook brigade. Fmd. I can't wait for next February where we argue which spud deserves his spot in the best 22 only for the happy clappers to talk about what amazing depth we have. We push Murphy from the forward line up to the stoppages because it's the only thing he's good at.. The other team doesn't care about him because of his poor skills so we gift them an extra in defence. If Crouch or Himmelberg are playing on Sunday I'm not going Poor Rory!! Imagine if we had talked about Jonesy like that. No respect being shown to Sloane. I'll check back in a few days and hope they have something more interesting to say.7 points

I never understood that. If Harmes offered, why did Goody refuse? It seems pretty cruel, when you are 10 goals up, with minutes to play, to not let him on the ground.7 points

Good guess. The Age is reporting that recruiters think he will go in the 3rd round (pick 45 to 60) which should be easy for us to match. Especially as JT doesn't use picks outside the 2nd round.7 points

Sloane has given his heart and soul to that club and has had some big personal off field tragedies to overcome at the same time. To think his own supporters can talk about him like he’s yesterday’s trash is pathetic. Then again, they don’t build them smart over in SA.7 points

Hammy aside Clayton has been infamous for being beaten up in season. They regularly joked on Gus and Gawny about Clarry barely being able to get his hands above his head with sore shoulders. If he comes back in 3 weeks cherry ripe I think we could see something remarkable. A fresh superstar mid moving freely and chomping at the bit in a top four side, look out!6 points

Agree that Kynan currently sits in the 3rd round range. I thought he performed really well in the Champs, he has good vision in traffic and can see that he’s done a fair amount of work on his kicking, his use during the champs was much neater than I had seen at Oakleigh last year. He is clearly a hard worker who won’t leave anything to chance to get on an AFL list, so that already puts him in good stead. Just not enough game changing traits to lift him inside the top 20, but that is perfectly fine. There’s enough to work with there for Kynan to carve out a solid career. Brown benefitted from Vic Metro having a pretty shallow midfield group, there are many other years where he wouldn’t have had such a good run playing inside for Metro. This allowed him to showcase his attributes well I thought, he put up an incredibly consistent performance across the 4 games (another tick). Brown’s skill set works well in an inside role, but as mentioned elsewhere, his slight frame probably means he won’t play that role at AFL level. He links up play well and has some pace, so could adapt to a high half forward role or small defender. The work ethic looks to be there, which can often be the difference between being draftable or not.6 points

A solid player but I am not an enamoured as others with his ability. Not in the same category for mine as others of the same age and experience bracket. Bower, Sparrow, Rivers, McVee and probably Woey are ahead of him. I can see Blake Howes in soon too playing a similar role. I won't relish seeing him play in another jumper but I wont be getting my nuts caught in my zipper over it.6 points

Really really grinds my gears posts like these from peanuts in the media. Knowing his family pretty well and playing a fair bit of footy with his old man, this just wouldn't be true. They're a wonderful down to earth group who are just happy with Harley playing and enjoying himself. What's worse is you're creating angst on a player and supporting group before a kid has even played a game. There's every chance they (WC) downgrade picks to get more talent in anyways (priority in getting Curtain) - which makes total sense for them but nuffies will see it and think he's a mummy's boy who was too scared to cross the country.6 points

Thanks. Don't understand why certain people get so worked up when there's an article posted whether it's negative or positive.6 points

I think this is very much the best deal going at the moment, which will be difficult for others to match unless they pay significantly overs. GWS is probably our closest rival to snare 6, but they are not giving up 8 & 10 unless they are going after a specific player Curtin going to #4 is probably going to really test WC's resolve. They probably don't swap without having at least 2 top 10 picks and late 1st rounder / early 2nd rounder (current or next year). They will push hard for Sydney's Pick 5 for Barass so that they can secure both Reid and Curtain, but Sydney would be derelict in their duties to go for Barrass (who is 27-28) with Pick 5. I think they just Himmelberg as a FA an use Pick 5 to bring in some youth. I think we are right in the drivers seat this year and JT will need to make a decision around 4,6 for 1 (Reid) vs taking a Mckercher/Sanders, Duursma / Watson. I'll kick up a stink if Roos get some form of compensation this year as it will be the 2nd time in recent history where we have had a top 5 pick and lost out due to a priority pick. Nevertheless we will have 1 or 2 of Reid, Curtain, McKercher, Sanders, Duursma and/or Watson and that is exciting!6 points

You just can’t speed the tendon recovery, so if we accept that it IS tendon, the progression to sprint/acceleration will speed over the next month. I certainly wouldn’t worry about his skills, and match fitness for players such as Clarry is in the head as much as legs. He’ll be like a caged lion come his return. His aerobic fitness won’t be a problem, as he’d be doing lots of other stuff - bike, pool, circuit.6 points

Doesn't sound ridiculous at all. A good team, who have genuine leg speed, quality across all lines, potent forward line as evidenced by their crazy good percentage, a strong sytem dialled to run and carry like the pies and buy in. They won't be as flat against us as they have been for the last couple of games, and I expect them to be running on top of the ground on Sunday and present a real challenge. My expectation is they will attack, and look to run at as with handball chains and wave running a la the pies. If they can beat us or port next round, I think they’ll make the 8. I don't think they'll beat us, but I reckon they're a huge chance of beating Port, as Port will struggle defensively with the crows speed of ball movement from the back half (as do we if not on).6 points

Agreed. Anyone would think we want him to be a KPF like Jeremy Cameron. I'd say learning the 'forward craft' Richardson referred to is related to a specific role where he needs a few forward skills to compliment our other forwards and to not compete with them. To me it seems like we have identified a gap in our fwd structure/system and are looking to Grundy to fill it. So all this talk about Grundy not being a fwd is shallow thinking by the commentators. Of course he isn't and won't be but he can play a role which may not be kicking heaps of goals. And as for being traded. A key reason he chose us was because he likes the city lifestyle and didn't want to go back to SA.6 points

No worries. Luckily for me I was studying and then Gough got in and sent me a card I still keep, which read “ your services are no longer required”. Never received a better sacking. On a serious note, I have the utmost respect for the men and women who served and continue to do so. Their bravery is truly admirable.6 points

Can probably draw a 4 year deal + near guaranteed starting midfield time from another club on the free market. If you were his parents you'd advise him to walk.5 points

The only way he stays in as a permanent fixture is as an inside mid. The only way that happens is if we are committed for Trac to play predominantly forward in the years to come. This could well happen when Clarry finally comes back from his full hamstring amputation.5 points

I believe 2 is the maximum. It is a dilemma faced by GCS this draft as they have 3 players rated in the first round, 2 possibly in the top 10 so one will be up for grabs. They will need lots of points for the 2 top 10 possibilities so a good chance for us to trade for their first round pick. They have been good trading partners in the past so if both want to deal a deal should get done.5 points

Scott has already started the mind games declaring: We are the danger...! Lets wait and see what they are made of when they play the top 3 teams in the coming weeks - the teams they need to beat in the finals. Beat Coll (G), Port (KP) and Lions (Gabba) and it could make them GF favourites. They will be going all out to finish 5th and get a home final. If an an interstate team sneaks into 8th, most likely GWS the game will be at KP. That would be a fascinating first final as GWS beat them at KP and both teams have improved since. Hopefully the physical toll of their run home wears them down in the finals and they don't go beyond the second week.5 points
