  1. Dude looks like a Laidley.

  2. What a grub Ricky Nixon is, trying to draw attention to himself by crowing he has inside knowledge. You have to feel for the Laidley family. I hope they find who leaked those photos and taken firm action.

  3. The leaking of those photos is a terrible betrayal of trust The offender must be brought to account

  4. No. 43 1984 Round 13 v Hawks at Princes Park I remember this day clearly. A gusty Melbourne afternoon but good conditions for footy. My dad and I, met my uncle at Flinders Street station. We got the tram up Elizabeth Street and up Royal Parade. We were anxious. The Hawks were the reigning premiers. A mighty side. Stars on every line. Playing at home. A tough assignment. The Dees were the mix of youngsters and veterans. We had lost the first 5 games of 1984 but bounced back to win 5 straight from round 8 to 12. We had smashed good teams like the Cats, Lions and Dogs. This team was bonding. Kelvin Templeton was having a good year and we had some wildcards like Rhino Richards and David Williams complimenting half forward. Healy, Johnson and Flower in the midfield. Peter Moore was in outstanding form, controlling the ruck. Stephen Smith was the leader of the backline and today was on Leigh Matthews. Senior players Icke, Giles and Jarrott across half back. The Dees matched the Hawks in the first quarter. and took advantage of the breeze in the 2nd quarter kicking 8 goals to 3. Could the impossible happen? Matthews was getting frustrated and whilst he was a champion, he was not the fairest and lost his cool. The Demon faithful could smell an upset as we held onto the lead at 3/4 time by 3 goals. Templeton kicked his 4th and we felt home. The Hawks tried to claw back but the Dees held on to a famous 17 point win. The song was sung with heart. A massive upset. The Dees were in the five by percentage and we celebrated. Melbourne 15.17.107 defeated Hawthorn 13.12.90

  5. Fox Footy has published the photos. It's a sad state of affairs when fan footy forums have higher standards of integrity that media outlets.

  7. OFC i would say yes. Im a nurse Jaded, and if we all started saying it was just too hard, how do you think that might affect the country. I was, and remain prepared to be quarantined from my family to do my job. Your second para says that my answer was irrelevant to you anyway so i dont know why you bother to ask in the first place. As for the training part, if any club can find a way to make a meal of this enforced break, it will be our club. If we come back in ripping nick and playing better than the rest of the field i will be shocked to near death. 50 plus year of failure will sow those kind of seeds. "hub idea is ridiculous anyway" Never argued otherwise. Its their whole attitude of "We didnt sign up for this"... Nobody did.

  13. Is that “scum” in the same way that all butchers are “scum” because you got a bad piece of steak from one once? Or did you mean that the individual who leaked photographs is “scum,” in which case, I would agree.

  14. That game just reminded me of how much we lost with Watts and Kent gone. I know they both had issues, but we are so desperate for players who can deliver to their forwards. We seem to have focused too heavily on contested ball-winners and forgotten about the ability to use it once they have it in their hands.

  15. Yes my family and I ventured out to Waverley to see if the Demon revival would continue. In a fairly even first half, the Dees had chances but went in one goal down. The 2nd half rain suited the Bombers who won by about 6-7 goals. We were disappointed but knew the bombers were a very good team (eventually being premiers in 1984).

  16. Ahh, I see what you did there. Very clever. A bit of the old 'tell us all your secrets and be judged, or I'll just assume you have secrets and judge you anyway' routine. A lot of police have done a lot of 'questionable' things and there are still aspects of warped culture and corruption that keep festering and refuse to die. Australia's generally, are among the best in the world these days but still have plenty of rot in them, whether it is corruption, bigotry, or such vain-glorious creepiness as this particular instance. And there's still an awful lot of people who have vivid, sometimes very recent memories driving their mistrust of police. It's not so simple that you can just say 'did you get stiched up or are you a P.O.S?' That's not a mature way to go about things at all.

  17. I love ethical questions! If we're playing Richmond the game should go ahead and we should try and infect as many of them as possible! I draw the line at spitting on them though... that would be unethical and I wouldn't want us to be seen like their supporters.

  18. Have to say I'm really enjoying this trip down memory lane. It was a magnificent win - I was 14 at the time and remember getting very carried away. Unfortunately it was the end of what was a great run from memory. Did we get belted by Essendon the next game or very soon after?

  19. one player or assistant getting the virus will bring the house of cards down from a competition viewpoint. One member of a player or assistant's family getting the virus and who knows what happens. Tested on Wedndesday ... results on Friday... do you tell the team you are playing on Saturday. I love hypotheticals !!

  20. So if your work said to you that you need to leave your family for up to 20 weeks so you can continue to work, you'd say yes? I mean that's cool if you would, but there are lots of players with young kids, partners who also work, players who are expecting new babies and so forth. I am sure most of the single players would be fine to do it, but when you have a family your decision making can't just revolve around you. You want to tell Jack Viney he won't be there to meet his newborn? Coz I sure as [censored] don't! They have handed back some of their pay, but they still are required to train every day and follow their strict regime so they are ready to resume work at the drop of a hat. Unlike everyone else who is unable to work right now, they aren't eligible for jobseeker, they can't sit on the couch and drink and get fat. They have contracts, they live within the means of their contracts, and now these circumstances have thrown their life into chaos. They are not different to anyone else, but nobody else is being told to pack up their life and leave their family behind so they can keep their job. The hub idea is ridiculous anyway, because there are plenty of people involved who aren't even full time employees, who would be expected to leave their day job to be in this hub (umpires, physios, runners, volunteers etc). Is the AFL prepared to pay to match their wage? Best to wait until the state governments are happy to allow the clubs to charter flights on a fly in - fly out basis, and until we have enough testing kits available to the whole community to ensure we are able to test all players regularly. Then we may be able to have some sort of season.

  21. No winners here. A sad affair and a terrible outcome for Dean. Ricky Nixon proves himself to be an obnoxious, glory hunting, narcissistic [censored]. The police officer involved who thought breaching privacy was a good idea. The gutter press that posted pics gained through this obvious breach of privacy. Appropriate process should be followed. Public interest stopped at ‘he was arrested and not bailed’. Everything after that is salacious trash that serves no one.

  23. Based on just these leaked photos, or do you have some other evidence to back up this ridiculous claim? Vic Police generally do a fantastic job despite working for a Government that doesnt seem to have any great affection for them, and a judiciary stacked with Libertarians.

  24. I started following Melbourne in 1965 (I know...) so Barassi was before my time. The best five that I've seen would probably be Hassa Mann, Robbie Flower, Gary Hardeman, Garry Lyon and David Schwarz. Very honourable mentions to Stan Alves, Greg Wells, Jim Stynes, Allen Jakovich, Jeff Farmer and David Neitz.

  26. I've always been surprised when a celeb or sports star is charged with something that their name and critical details of the matter miraculously come out in the press within a very short period of time. If not for the alleged offender, then privacy for the victim and associated families should be paramount. It may also affect the integrity of the case against the accused. In this case, the image of Laidely's mugshot from Vicpol database has his MNI on it, which would make Vicpol furious. Vicpol do an valuable and unenviable job, particulary during current lockdown, but the person within the force who leaked these is truly dumb and deserves what they get.

  27. Love Gawn however he really has only come into his own last few years whereas Todd was a consistent great payer for us over the whole journey. Going with Viney but if this was on in a couple of years and Max continues his current form then Max would get the nod.

  30. I went to Vic Park once as a 10 year old in 1992 and stood in the outer with my dad and uncle (both Melbourne) another uncle (Collingwood) and his friend (Melbourne) when another Jako (Jakovich) kicked 7 goals after being dragged early and we ran over the Pies in the last quarter. I was too young or stupid to care about the Pies supporters and was cheering the Demons home and singing the song on the walk back to Hoddle Street. Don't remember getting any dirty looks or worse, but my dad was keen to get out of there in a hurry. Shame to see grounds like that lost to history, one of the best hamburgers I've ever had was there too on the grill just inside the entry gate. Collingwood supporters have the reputation but the team who I have had the most issues with at the footy is Saints supporters.

  32. A good win but as it was a crappy game, I really wouldn’t rate it. There is a few more glorious victories over the Essenscum Fc. Imo we should go back to round 12 1993. Jakovich kicks 8 and we win by 5 goals. A young David Neitz showcased his future as well. Bombers were premiers in 1993 but we gave it to them and their supporters that day.

  35. How about Essendon having equal most premierships but they sit 3rd on the Grand Finals won ladder. 1897 and 1924 they won the premiership after a round robin finals series with no Grand Final played.
