  1. Crikey, I'm just glad our coach made the list.

  2. My tax return Getting my full 15 years worth of long service leave in 2 weeks. 4 weeks in Thailand starting next Tuesday. Seeing the cat in my profile pic for the first time n 14 months. (I really love that dopey looking thing) Christmas, because the place i live at should be visable from the moon with all the Chrissie lights we have planned. Draft period. Trade period. The Ashes. Hell, i might even plan a colonoscopy. Not really feeling the footy right now tbh.

  3. I’m not really looking forward to anything Demons related. If I had to choose something it would be the progression of Baker. Non-Demons related, I’m looking forward to Essendon not making the finals again.

  5. Agreed. Ollie Wines has spent a few weeks in the twos, moreso to get his touch and fitness back. But if is good enough for him as captain (and Hawks ex captain Roughy) it is good enough for TMac, our co-captains and every other player who is not performing over a few weeks or lacking fitness. Season is lost. There should be no exceptions.

  8. I'm going to look at it as a hurdle requirement; you need to pass a certain level but beyond that it becomes less important. I must say, it is weird not just seeing Buckley at the top of Matsuo's list, but realising that I'd probably agree. If I had to pick an AFL coach for a long session of free-ranging discussion of the world, it would probably be ol' Nate. I'm on the cusp of not having any real problem with Collingwood (except a segment of their supporters), soon I'll be calling the Queen's Birthday game a 'jolly good show against a worthy rival'. Scary times.

  9. Tom is in a slump and these are hard to eliminate. It is also the case that the delivery up forward in non-existent. He therefore has suffered in the mid-term from a double disadvantage - suggesting a 'selfishness' of many of our players to just hit the ball on the foot for distance and metres gained. Hope and a prayer football is deplorable - no wonder we are so remiss in scoring.

  10. 100% agree. Thst is what the 2s are for. That said i hope they give Tmac a month off to get right. He is clearly out of form, bust just as clearly carrying something

  11. I don't see this 'Matsuo'... Not knocking him, he's been great. ...but one of the main reasons he didn't get drafted earlier is a lack of pace. It's one of the things his former coach, Jarred Rivers pointed to in a recent interview. His strength is as a natural footballer who reads the game well (counters in part for foot speed) & his intercept marking. He will be a constant fixture in our team going forward but not as Nev's replacement. We need to look elsewhere for that.

  12. Cant help but feel , like everyone here, overwhelmingly depressed about this year. Thought Id start a thread about what is left ( if there is anything at all) to be interested in or hopeful for, for the rest of the year given finals are done. In no particular order. 1. The new players. Especially Jay Lockhart. Have the sense he could be a gun. Looking forward to seeing him find his feet and play a few more games getting ready for a big 2020. But him and Baker and Dunkley in particular will def have my full interest. 2. Lever and May playing together at last. Get a glimpse of how those two, with Frost and Hore look all in the same backline. Could be exciting. 3. Weids taking further steps into his game. Maybe one really big one of 5 or 6 goals to just whet the appetite for next year. 4. Finding form and beating one or two really good sides before the end of the year. 5. Resting Tmac and Viney 6 looking at draft picks 7 Petracca kicking a bag. Anybody got anything else?

  15. Mensa will be playing close attention to this concept in anticipation of some new arrivals. I’m pleased for Tony Shaw that he is no longer eligible for ranking as this subject might have upset him had he been capable of reading. Mazer seems to have sewn together a few pertinent ideas but but others will get crotchety about the fabric in the thread. I felt it has some merit but others may feel he is desperate for new material and is simply trying to pull the wool. Kasparov was probably not exposed to AFL much but I’m sure if he was to make changes from the coaches box then 4 hours per move might have seen him ranked alongside Goodwin for dynamic strategy implementation.

  16. If we win thr next 5 in a row we will then enter the mathematical possibility conversation - one can only dream. In seriousness I'd oike to see our best 22 gel and start playing some good footy, finish the season with minimal injury, make some changes in the off season (not to drastic) and give 2020 a massive crack.

  19. The craftwork index. AFL coaches ranked from 1 to 16 by skill & aptitude in knitting, crocheting and quilting. 1. John Longmire – strangely enough, claims not to like the caper but has a string of awards from galleries large and small throughout Australia 2. Alistair Clarkson – maverick who is not afraid to drop stitches in pursuit of a superior outcome. Breaks needles frequently. 3. Chris Fagan – sock specialist. Has no peer. 4. Ross Lyon – sleeper. Creative talent, superior ability to match wool & needle. Doesn’t create his own patterns but executes published ones to a high degree of excellence 5. John Worsfold – excellent drape and fit, good range. Blankets, runners, or clothing: can do it all. 6. Alan Richardson – hook guru. The man to see for all your questions about all sizes and types of hooks. 7. Don Pyke – mastered Tunisian crochet at an early age. Impressive body of work, but has had trouble passing down to a younger generation. 8. Leon Cameron – garment specialist. Looking to start his own fashion house after AFL career comes to a close. 9. Adam Simpson – thinker. Will try different combinations of wool, needles, mixes colours well. 10. Luke Beveridge – let early success get to his head and his later work exhibits sloppy broomstick technique. Can do better. 11. Simon Goodwin – crossed from tapestry to quilting, shows promise, but could be making the switch too late in his career to have real impact. 12. Damian Hardwick – clumsy but tries hard. Some good results shine through occasionally 13. Stewart Dew – new kid on the block as an AFL coach, but yesterday’s man in the competitive world of quilting. Sound needle technique but tired ideas. 14. Nathan Buckley – hard worker but with little natural aptitude. 15. Chris Scott – another who lets his anger get the better of him. Questionable technique: uses needles that are too thick for his preferred wool 16. Ken Hinkley – not good. Goes through the motions. Appears to prefer football.

  21. I watched some of Bob Hawke's State Memorial Service today and what astounded me was his granddaughter's speech about how a treaty was about to be signed for Antarctica to be exploited for its resources in 1989, but her grandfather refused to ratify the agreement and instead set about convincing the rest of the world Antarctica should be a natural reserve, devoted to peace, co-operation and science. How close we came to losing the continent to the mining industry and short term gains with no thought for the future. Hawke spoke of global warming and the consequences for our children and grandchildren 30 years ago. I wasn't even aware of this great legacy he left behind. When Hawke spoke he appealed to us as fellow human beings. Now we seem to have leaders and politicians who speak to us as though we are merely consumers who should be grateful for what we manage to attain for our families and not ask for anything else. I think this is why the AFL is on the nose at the moment with the fans. They are treating them like consumers who should just pay the money without question and do as they are told. They are forgetting the passion many fans have for their teams. For some their team is deeply ingrained in their life, just as going to church on Sunday is for others. Just as players are not robots, neither are fans. Stop the preaching.

  22. In regards to Goodwin: - High work ethic - Strong bond with players - Willing to try new plans and adapt far more than a lot of AFL coaches - keeps calm in the coaches box and media I get the feeling he has a few blindspots with things he doesn’t know. The management of injuries fits there. And I think he could go to another level if he showed more of his personality at times. I get why coaches are guarded but I’d like to see him open up. Both of those faults can easily improve with experience and support around him.

  24. There are two types of people in this world @Matsuo Basho those that can infer things from incomplete data and... Well considering the last 3 premierships have come from your positions of 6, 7 and 9, I'd suggest, you either don't want to have too much IQ or too little IQ as judged by some bloke... therefore the inference that it is relevant to obtaining a premiership is that it a) is, b) is not c) choose your own adventure.

You told us all summer that players didn't really have interrupted preseasons and would all be cherry ripe for Round 1 and all the surgeries and late starts wouldnt affect their season and blah blah blah You couldn't be more wrong if you tried.

  30. Lockhart needs a few weeks in the AFL team to see if he can build on his game at the top level. I'm not huge on gifting games but he is a player I would like tested out more at the top level. He has a look of someone who takes the game on and change the momentum of a game. Hore is a find. Essentially a ready made replacement for any of our back six who are no longer up to it. Pick 56 well spent, should be a 150 game player for us. Sparrow looked promising from what I had seen before he hurt his knee. He is 2 months away from playing footy again so we will need to wait until next year to see what we have with Sparrow. Baker has a look of a player who could be damaging. Bit of Issac Smith about him. He is the player we desperately need and could take another stride or two before the season ends. Keilty is a guy I can't figure out. His good vfl games are eye catching, but when he is bad he is bad. The next 10-12 weeks are vital for him. He will get his opportunity to play if his form is there. If he doesn't force his way back into the side it could be curtains for him at the Dees.

  33. Because with Frost off we had no one else. When JDG and Stephenson were both forward: Hibberd had to to got to Stephenson. May had to go to De Goey. Any other defender - Hore, Lever, Fritsch, Wagner on either of those guys would've been a disaster. That's why long term we probably need to replace Wagner or Hore with a mobile shut down player, although short term getting Frost and eventually Jetta should be a good start. I thought May did a number on Cox a few times early, held a couple of marks and got good hands to others. Then he held De Goey pretty well. Ran him under the ball with good physical pressure on every occasion aside from once when De Goey turned him and goaled. May isn't a pure lock down defender but he can do it. Frost should be the lock down tall defender. Lever the interceptor. May then can take the match up and play it as per the circumstances.

  35. I may be one out here, but i would keep Jeffy in the team. He is a one touch player, creates and is more capable than others. I know he is a bit scared at times and a bit soft, but thats not our problem.. goals are our problem and he has kicked 5 in 3 weeks, 10 shots.. and goal assists here is some comparisons JEFFY - 10 tackles and 5.5 in last 3 weeks. (leads tackles inside 50 for year and has played only 7 games) HUNT - 3 tackles and 3.4 in last 3 weeks SPARGO - 8 tackles and 2.1 in last 3 weeks TRAC - 7 tackles and 3.2 in last 3 weeks. *Jeffy has played only 7 games, is 4th on goal kicking - cant understand dropping him calls.

  36. If you are going to sit/lean back on your last step as you kick for goal, resulting in little forward momentum with most kicks, as most of our players do (poor technique/execution) and try to guide it through, then guess what sort of result is likely for most right footers!? Then there's Tracc's chest high ball drop method! The two attempted bananas from Hannan & T-Mac last two weeks both missing by a country mile! Wowee! Seriously who is (isn't) teaching / correcting these guys? Rooke, Viney??? It's embarrassing as a Club and unwatchable. How Goody is allowing / overseeing this is beyond me. We have become a joke in the competition again within 6 months and it's no wonder opps treat us with contempt with methods like this. So many ex greats of the gane we could bring in to assist but where are they? Very poorly coached and drilled. And if they truly are getting the correct set shot kicking technique / training as forwards, and still not getting it after this long then they might need to be axed! Goody seems way too stubborn, unable to see where the changes/assists (T-Mac to Casey to regain some form/confidence for Pruess) are needed...and make them. Still wants to persist with the most out of form forward in T-Mac after the season is over and didnt fire a shot in 12 rounds! Regardless of whether there's a slight improvement in form from here the damage is done and Goody's decision to persist with T-Mac for the entire first half has almost ensured we are no chance of making finals. It's almost like he just wont accept he was wrong and wants to prove to everybody his decision to continue was justified, even at the expense of the club's potential finals chances. "See i told you he would be fine" (Goody's presser after T-Mac scores 4 goals in a return to form against the Blues, Rnd 16).

  37. "We know that no one ever seizes power with the intention of relinquishing it." - George Orwell, 1984. That press release from the AFL sure sounded like a preach from the pulpit. Sounds like power has gone to their collective heads, telling us what we can and can't do at the football, like we are errant children.

  38. That's what priests are for. To think on behalf of the flock, and to give advice... so people don't think on they're own, and all start pulling in differing directions. God forbid... No serious talk to one-another, or mayhem may breakout. anger, outrage, even some fornication. Keep unto yourself, and confess at least once a week. Then only the priest him-self knows all the happenings, or thoughts of... in-silence. What a recipe for destruction, non-learning, and a mono-culture..... just ask your alter-boy next door. It seems our Multi-National directors all sing from that Hymn book... and take a gold watch... million$--dollar$ payout at retirement time, (hush money) ... they say, $ilence i$ Golden. They all seem to shake, on that score. I believe the AFL also have a similar in-house, secret handshake .

  39. No, no, no. You are not allowed to think! Thinking only gets you into trouble. Let the AFL do your thinking for you. As soon as they make up their own minds they will get back to you.

I have a pet maggot at home who is very good at cleaning up morsels on the floor, or in the bin and its the words yellow and dead that upset him the most.......his name is "razor" and he lives in my shaving kit......

I’ve tried to explain to you all that the western world is/ has been manipulated by thought policing morons who are indoctrinated by a neo Marxist platform that has been running since The ‘70’s, no I’m not joking. They will attempt to control your morality, speech and personal beliefs. You must resist at every opportunity and tell these maggit to eat [censored] wherever you see them, be it AFL, schools, media or the workplace. I expect this comment may even be deleted as some people find individual expression too confronting.
