  1. Sloane and Hannebery should be 1 and 2.

  2. One thing that is known about the draft is that the inside mids (contested players) are easier to get a handle on...and you're more likely to get a decent player from this group. The outside players are where the early busts are more likely to be. Think someone like Toumpas for example. I think by ranking & focussing on outside mids we are more likely to fail. Pick best available in the draft and trade for weaknesses.

  3. Was a full reconstruction. You don’t just get a cleanup after you dislocate your shoulder. You need a stabilisation procedure which is otherwise known as a “shoulder reconstruction”. Usually involves a keyhole (arthroscopic) repair of the labrum. 4 month rehab process minimum before return to play. If he had it done just before the end of the season, he is still miles away from full training.

  4. I was there is 1964 and I remember very little other than Gabo's run. These pictures remind me (copied from old slides). The last one is at first bounce.

  6. Well you need to recognize that Craig has never lost his job. He was headhunted by Richmond and did a very good job there managing the exits of Miller and Wallace and establishing a credible football department. He left Richmond to pursue his love of horseracing but didn't know he was getting into bed with a crook. He was headhunted by Campbell at GWS and then headhunted by Evans at GCS. It's not a bad CV. As for his time at Melbourne he was good. He lost some draft picks when Gutnick exposed a previous administrations salary cap cheating. His first few drafts were very good. 1997 drafts landed Johnstone, Rigoni. His first rookie draft was Nathan Bassett, Daniel Ward, Matthew Bishop, Robbo and Junior McDonald. He had some poor years as well. What is often overlooked is he was doing the job of about 5 full-timers. There were no development coaches, no full-time staff sifting through hours of vision - just him. I get frustrated with the criticism of Craig (along with others) because it's never balanced with a recognition of the circumstances of the Club. The reality is we did very well under Fagan, Cameron and Daniher given our circumstances.

  7. Could not give a toss what colour or clash jumpers are. Its just such a non-issue. I care more how we play the game, how many wins we will have and if we are going to make the finals.

  8. I poked my head in for 15 minutes this morning at Gosch's. I'll leave the observations on the minutiae of the drills etc to those who care more about that, but my biggest take out from my limited time there was the increased size of Weideman across his whole upper body. He's now a really good size. Whether he gets much game time this year I don't know, with TMac likely to go forward, but physically, he's now just about ready.

  9. Vanders still concerns me a little. Doesn't sound like he is making the progress they had hoped he would at this stage in his recovery. There is a long way to go, so hopefully that turns around as the pre-season continues.

  12. I posted this in another thread, but I can tell you, I was given info from a person connected to the MFC that suggested that the White clash while be done away with and that the new clash jumper will be "as traditional as it could be'. Make of that what you will. I pushed the guy for more details or for a release date, but he was tight lipped...which is fair enough. Based on what he told me, I am excited to see the design.

  15. There aren't enough Muslims enrolled to make a 60-70% "No" vote in those western Sydney electorates. The "No" vote also had to come from other sources. There are plenty of other conservatively religious voters represented in that area to bump it up to that level. I'm celebrating yesterday's result and I couldn't care less who voted "No", because 62% voted "Yes".

  17. I happen to know quite a few practicing muslims who voted Yes... but you can be happy in your own little fantasy land as long as it suits your prejudices. Nothing to do with my leanings one way or the other... but as usual you find it helpful to place things in neat little boxes because that makes it easier for you. As for the other thread, don't hold your breath. You put up a video by a guy who has a degree in engineering and absolutely NOTHING in the area of climate science and expect me to sit through that. Forget it... I'm tired of your pizzing up a wall/dick measuring contests that seem to be designed to make you (cough) feel in some way superior (cough). I'm wondering what you hope to gain from the amount of material you post, knowing that it is not impressing anyone, knowing that it is not convincing anyone, and that is obviously using up an inordinate amount of your time, of which you seem to have far too much. It's almost like you forgot to take your medication over the past few days (I'm assuming here that there has to be some kind of reasonable explanation for your behaviour).

  19. I was at cricket practice. A 14 year old in the nets at Sunshine Cricket Club. We lived in the street surrounding the park. There weren't too many trannies - in those days a trannie was a portable radio - listening to the game. I was bowling during the last quarter, trying to concentrate, every now and then I'd lament another Barassi behind - I'd been to the 2nd semi where we smashed them - and starting to worry. I hear the Gabelich wobbly cake walk to goal, I bowl, I fetch, I bowl another ball. Then I hear a roar, it's my favourite back pocket player of all time - yes, better than Fowler and Johnson - the mighty ex-rover who went AWOL, returned in '64 to win a flag. Them was the days. Next year, my so called Leaving Year, we win the first 7 games, most of them not by very much, then the mighty Norm is sacked and apart from Northey, the first few years of Balme, the Daniher years and the last two years of rehab it's been a bucketload of shite.

  21. The very highest "yes" voting seats were actually Labor- and Greens-held seats in inner Sydney and Melbourne. It was also great that there was a huge "yes" vote in many strongly-held Liberal seats e.g. Higgins. The highest "no" voting seats being in Sydney's West and Melbourne's Bruce and Calwell doesn't surprise me either. Their inhabitants tend to be (one or a combination of) lower-educated, working class, migrants (especially those of Asian descent), Catholics, Muslims and/or happy clappers of the type who featured in the "no" campaign ads. But let's not make this wonderful result a stupid left-right Liberal-Labor political argument. The vote was a resounding 62% and it's terrific, especially for all my gay and lesbian friends who all want to get married to their long-term partners.

  22. I must be the only one that doesn't mind wearing a white clash jumper for what averages to be once a month - yes ONCE a month. I thought we had way more issues to worry about than a clash jumper.

  24. Wow......... I now have tickets for Russia for the Group stage and the round of 16 for myself and my son. Over the moon. My tickets are venue specific and are for the city of Kazan which is the Tartar capital of Russia. Never know I may be able to get to a Australian match as well. Now for the airlines and accomodation. Airbnb apartments in Russia are a little basic by the looks of things but hell the vodka is cheap.

  25. Andy seems fitter, faster and a more penetrating kick that Gus. He's fitting the mould of how the game has swung back towards pace and running the ball with the Dogs and this Richmond team. Gus is bigger, stronger and more suited to the style that was in vogue when he was drafted of big bodied mids. I am hoping that with a strong fitness base and consistent game time that Gus will mature and get sharper in his ball use and quicker on his feet. That's been true of a lot of players over the years, like a Josh Kennedy at Sydney. The other thing I think recruiters are picking up on is that with the number 1 pick especially but also with top 3, top 5 or top 10 even you have to pick a player who will thrive under scrutiny. That can be a Dusty or Clarry who outwardly look like lads but have inner determination or it can be an Andy McGrath super professional type but they have to be resilient. Andy Brayshaw seems like that.

  26. They didn't have D&Ms and counselling sessions with the players at stoppages either. "Nathan .... Nathan .... Nathan ... give me the ball please. Nathan .... give me the ball please. Nathan ..." "Dustin ... move one metre back please. Dustin ... Dustin ... move one metre back please ... Dustin ..." They hardly spoke to them at all. No flapping around. Don't give the ball back = free. Don't move back = free. Now it's like they're trying to talk the drunk guy at the pub out of decking them using the skills they learnt at their effective communications course at the CAE.

  27. The AFL. The mob who knee-jerked a new rule, the deliberate behinds rule, when it wasn't really needed. The mob who responded to (sarcasm alert) public outrage, letters to the editors, speeches in parliament, and public demonstrations about players abuse of deliberate out bounds, by cracking down like a ton of bricks on it. Hard as nails, these AFL bosses. The mob who have managed to do three quarters of FA about a genuine issue, throwing the ball. Why no crackdown on that? The mob who have managed and counter-managed holding the ball and head-high tackles to the point where when the ump blows the whistle, no one knows what decision has been paid and why. Even the players. The mob where the umpires director doesn't seem to know what the rules are, and expects umps to make decisions in spite of that. (Ray, maybe you've earned your blankie, mate.) The mob who have mangled the MRP process to where it's chooklotto. These are the ones who are about to decide that the bounce will play no part in our great game. Well done AFL. Another winning decision. At least we've got cheaper chips! The game of Australian Rules Rugby has never been in better hands.

  28. Billions are wasted on climate change and mad green schemes. Billions are wasted on the NBN. 100s of millions wasted on school halls, pink batts and cash for clunkers. Yet you're worried about 122 million that gave the people a vote to determine an outcome that fundamentally changes the fabric of society as we've known it ? A vote that could have dire consequences to free speech ? The Left rarely worry about money. It's very funny and disingenuous when they choose to.

  30. That's your opinion and whilst you may well end up being right, I hope you are wrong. I think both these guys have some potential and that it's the ability of coaches, medical staff and overall team culture to get more players to the point of producing the required level of output, whatever their inherent natural ability or past record. Being able to develop and grow the worst players on the list is a big part of what makes average teams good and good teams great. They are on our list for season 2018, so personally I'm not counting on any player being a lost cause until it's done and dusted. Last year our depth was severely tested in the middle to third quarter of the season. Just one of these guys had have been fit and available, it might have been the difference to us beating North or beating Carlton by a few more goals and we make finals last year, or perhaps hopefully the difference between finishing top four this year.

  32. I can assure you that I'm not related to CAC but I do know very well what his job was at MFC and RFC. If the facts don't suit you and you want to run away from the discussion that's fine but don't justify it with "this clouds both your judgements". The reality is I'm afraid you're just plain wrong. It's fact, not a judgement. I don't have the same knowledge as DD about Barry but he was opposition analyst at MFC prior to taking the recruiting job when CAC was headhunted by Richmond. He had one full time assistant (Gary Burleigh if my memory serves me correctly) and after one year in the job Tim Harrington joined as List Manager. Barry was never responsible for the TPP or negotiating player contracts which CAC was, that was handled by Chris Connolly.

  34. Covers the 2007 - 2016 decade, so either the final chapter is in the sequel or it will be like Star Wars and just keep plodding along forever with no end in sight. As for concerns that it will be too negative and you may end up your head in the oven, I can assure you it's all done in the best possible taste.

  35. In 1999 he came into the video shop I worked in, and when I complained (unfairly as I know now considering we made a GF the next year) about Darren Kowal being delisted he laughed and said "get a new favourite player". Never liked him after that.

  38. What about with later picks? Do you pass on a player who is better than someone you already have in that position? If yes, would that not make a bit of a mockery of drafting, unless you were so bad in other areas that it was essential that they be fixed first? Are we in that position?

  40. This just shows the ignorance that has resulted from your blind hatred of a particular group in our society. As someone else in this thread so right;y pointed out, the number of Muslims registered to vote would pale into insignificance in comparison to those of other religious and cultural beliefs. For example, the seat of Blaxland in Sydney is not only populated by Muslims, but also by Pacific Islanders, Chinese, Vietnamese, Christians (particularly Catholics) and so on. Read again the part where I state that not once did I encounter a single piece of material urging muslims to vote No (and I live in an area with a large Lebanese and Turkish population), yet I saw many examples of literature being distributed, particularly directed at members of the Asian community by Christian groups, disseminating false “facts” about the impact of same sex marriage, and urging people to vote No.

  42. I thought we played really well ... our passing game is really coming on and we won the disputed ball all night. We'll acquit ourselves well in Russia although we need to get stronger up front. To advance out of our group we'll need a kind draw. Although .... we won't have to concern ourselves with Italy, the Netherlands, Chile or the USA!
