  1. Reported on 3AW tonight that Carlton submitted a report to the AFL re Rowe's postmatch headaches. Carlton dogged on us. A club I genuinely hate.

  4. Jones should have retained sole captaincy this year. He is playing the best football of his career. Viney however has struggled throughout the JLT series and now the first two rounds into the season proper. He should've been added to the leadership group or at most made Vice Captain. He simply isn't mature enough yet. Jones has always been a warrior on the inside, but his outside run and kicking have improved dramatically. I can't remember a player ever improving their kicking skills so drastically so late into their career. He's gone from an average kick to a really damaging kick. His field kicking is brilliant, low and flat, and he's always been able to bomb goals from 50. His agility is really good now too. In the past he would try to bulldoze his way through tackles, now he is able to avoid tacklers and dispose to advantage instead of be caught or bombing the ball to nothing. Really impressed with how well he's developed later in his career and hope he gets to be part of the success after battling through so much rubbish for most of his career.

  5. I agree entirely. Where he gets the footy there will always be the odd mistake, but his smarts and clean hands are almost unparalleled. He had 4 clangers yesterday, Dangerfield had 6, Wines 5, Pendlebury 5, and O'Meara 9. I'm not fond of the DE% stat, but he went at 80, while some others with similar numbers were well below. Tom Mitchell 63, Dangerfield 62, Tyson 62, Treloar 65, Gaff 63, Pendlebury 72. There were a few close to his mark. After 15 games he still has a lot to learn, but we have an incredible ball magnet and young bull on our hands.

  6. Some strange analysis of what happened based more on false expectation than actual. I said before the game I just want a win. Carlton played well, off 10 days break, their entire coaching team at our R1, they ran very hard defensively and set a great zone and then worked hard out of defence. There's three reasons they only scored 9.10 - their defensive plan, they are young and/or ordinary in attack and our defence held well. Carlton fancy themselves against us and got up for the game - they wont be the only ordinary team that has that focus against us. With a starting midfield of Kruezer, Murphy, Cripps and Gibbs they do have a solid core. They'll get belted in games this year when they don't bring all they have, but they played well yesterday.

  7. Haha jeez there are a lot of silly sausages on here defending two stupid, unnecessary and fairly cowardly acts. Cripps has a hairline fracture in his Jaw from Lewis. I mean holy [censored], imagine if it were two Carton players and one of the victims happened to be our best mid who was potentially going to miss because of an injury caused by a hit to the head? Demonland would be losing its [censored]. Get some [censored] perspective already.

  8. Never thought I would see the expression "Spencer for Hogan (like for like)" on Demonland. Or anywhere else.

  9. It's worth noting that Geelong lost to Carlton last year by 19 points. They went on to play in a preliminary final. Sometimes you just have to get over the line in these types of games. We did and last year Geelong didn't.

  10. It feels a little bit like nitpicking to criticise a 19 year old with his second consecutive 35 possession game, who also marks and tackles, for a bit of ball overuse in a game where our forward line was cramped and dysfunctional. I understand the criticism is intended to be constructive, but boy are we setting the bar high. I expect these sorts of issues will be resolved with experience. He's a baby still and already our best player.

  11. You're only looking at what didn't work, and ignoring what did. 7 tackles, 12 marks, and amongst the leaders for clearances etc. Focusing only his clangers, while ignoring everyone else's, doesn't help give credibility to the anti-Tyson argument. Cripps and Gibbs, both (arguably) two champions of the game, each had 5 clangers, with efficiency around that of Tyson's ... but without the possessions or everything else Tyson contributed. Was he perfect? Far from it. But compared to the majority of our mids (and theirs), he made a substantial contribution. Incidentally, there was another player on the weekend who had high possessions, but at a kicking efficiency even lower than Tyson's and with almost as many clangers: Patrick Dangerfield

  12. Who kicked goals on Oscar today? How many goals was he directly responsible for with turnovers?

  13. HTF does Scott Thompson (with his equally bad record in comparison with Lewis) get one week for his hit on Dangerfield and our blokes get 3 and 2 respectively? The MRP is garbage. But we knew that.

  15. I was at gate 3 handing out scarves. The line to the membership shed was 50 people lomg 10 minutes before the bounce. I have never been so busy handing out carves as this weekend. Josh Wagner was there to meet and greet ended up assisting us, as there were 5 lines of 10 deep members to claim a scarf. It was flat stick from 2pm right up to game time and more wins mean more members. Josh was awesome and the number of surprised looks on members faces when they saw who was processing their members card and handing out a scarf was fantastic.

  16. All that tells me is that Brayshaw gets 60% more contested possessions than Toumpas, which was the reason Toumpas left the club. Brayshaw is having to play in starvation corner. Unfortunately, that's his go at the moment because others are ahead in the midfield. I liked his game last week, but this was a poor one. I think Brayshaw will become an exceptional midfielder after his apprenticeship is finished.

  17. Carlton clearly bitter and weak as usual, it is/was clearly open handed and got his cheek so the headache calls are ridiculous, all on the match review panel should be sacked for this one, this is just stupid

  18. Or they'll see his reaction as a sign that you can get under his skin and make him do silly things, and thus opposition backs will annoy him week in, week out looking for that reaction.

  19. Reminiscent of Trenner's sling tackle on Danger so long ago. Trenners got 3 I think because of the Crows medical report of concussion. Danger played the next week and kicked 6!

  20. Have a look at the vision and Cripps gets up and never touches his face and isn't told to go off by the Blues medical guys. That is hardly what you would expect for someone who has allegedly suffered a fractured jaw.

  21. Just to upset you all some more. Crows Tom Lynch broke Birchall's jaw with a forearm, which Dermie called deliberate this afternoon on SEN. Guess what, no penalty. Preust in a cowardly act, jumped into a Geelong player's back with his knee after the mark was taken. Could have crippled him. Most media thought 2-3 weeks. Guess what no penalty. The one referred to by many on here, the Scott Thomson elbow to Danger's jaw, which most media thought was 2-3. Guess what, penalty one week. Me personally, I could live with accepting the penalties, as long as the club stood up for the players and supporters, incurred the fine and blasted the MRP, highlighting the above.

  26. 38,119 That is 392 since Friday night. I would say there would be plenty more from yesterday coming through in the next few days as the membership team processes them. And as I noted above beat Geelong on Saturday and that will be quite a flip upward!

  27. Whoever did the job on Simpson will stay in - only 14 possessions. Was it ANB, Hannan or Brayshaw?

  28. Maybe I am setting the bar too low. Sat through years of watching us NOT get our hands on the ball. Always getting smashed in contested and uncontested ball. Yeah we were wasteful and overpossessed the ball, but for me the good news is that we got our hands on the ball often enough. It is easier to fix what we do with the ball once we get it than trying to fix not getting the ball at all. Probably Jones was our only player that didn't cough the ball up - Tyson did, Oliver did , Lewis did, Viney did, Salem did, Petracca did ..... Clean that up and more wins on the way. Compare this to pre Roos when we didn't turn it over because we could get the pill in the first place. Frustrating to watch but I will take that any day over the frustration of watching us against Carlton last year.

  29. You can argue it all you like, mate. Doesn't make it true. It was like watching Melbourne of old seeing Dom kick it out on the full, to 1-on-3s or that god-awful clearance when he got a perfect tap from Gawn, threw it immediately on his boot and it went 30 metres straight to a Carlton player. If he's getting our highest possessions in the future and disposing of it in the manner he was today, we are in real trouble. As my non-Demons supporting mate said, we were lucky we were playing Carlton today.

  30. Play Petracca out of FF alongside Weideman. Lower the eyes with a small leading forward-line and make sure Watts and Weideman contest any long balls for spills to Garlett, etc. Watts has been asked by Goodwin to compete in the air, so put the heat on him to play his role and contest high balls. If he does we'll have 2 x 196cm talls plus Hannan at 189cm, Petracca leading out of the square, Kent back in, Garlett and any other rotations. A versatile and unpredictable forward-line. I'd much rather that setup than bringing in Spencer and I'm not fussed about bringing Pedersen in either.

  31. Where does this view of Melksham come from? Melksham was one of our few players who ran hard all day. While others were standing round lazily he was running across time and time again switching Thebes's ball across the ground for us. Offensively he was the best of our back 6 on the weekend. He barely missed a target. Jetta held it down defensively and Melksham held it down offensively. Lack of physicality? This is the same guy who's laid the most bumps in the team thus far this year you're talking about right? How does he lack physicality? I'm getting sick of reading this [censored] about him on here from people who obviously have a pre-conceived view of him and aren't watching him and judging him on his current output. I sound like a broken record but it's just getting ridiculous now IMO Vince in for Lewis. Not sure who comes in for Hogan as it should be a tall. Is Pedo fit yet?

  32. Really? You know it's from Lewis and not from incidental contact in the other 117 minutes of football?
    5 points
  33. This is a bit of a joke. I have looked at Hogans over and over again and it just seems to be low contact with almost an open palm. It looked like it just slid up off his chest. Lewis was given the 3 due to Cripps having a fractured jaw post match. But apparently taking a dive is almost as bad as a broken jaw these days. If anyone saw Scott Thompson's hit on Dangerfield you can see that taking a dive is the only reason between 1 and 2 weeks. I mean Thompsons was an elbow to the head. Tell me how that's better than a palm.

  34. As frustrating as it is, I'm excited by the prospect of seeing how we go without a couple of key players over the coming weeks... I think we'll be fine! Let's not allow ourselves to be dee-railed by things we cannot undo. Learn, move forward and DEESTROY the opposition (legally of course)

  35. He was yapping away at Lewis 30 seconds after fracturing his jaw. No doc looked at it then, no concussion test, nothing. He very well could have done it in a contest in teh final minute of the game. Correlation and causation come to mind, Carlton and the MRP are working from correlation.
    5 points
  36. Clutching at straws there.
    5 points
  37. Cripps did not go off the field. The doctors did not check his jaw. How do they know the fracture didn't happen in another contest? But they somehow manage to convince the MRP that the 'minor' fracture was caused by Lewis. I'm tired of us not getting the benefit of the doubt.

  38. hogan will always be needed against any oppo as he takes the best defender. no side is good enough to not have best players out there if they're fit. any arrogance is unfounded at melbourne.

  40. We have enough poor skilled players in defence without adding another. He can kick a goal, take a grab and is aggressive. He can apply defensive pressure as a forward. Players like Jetta and Salem hardly waste a possession and are great coming out of the backline, setting up play. Harmes is just not highly skilled and will leak goals as he did yesterday, if played down back. He looked far more comfortable later in the game when he got the ball around midfield and created play running forward.

  41. Nathan Jones has improved, he has more time and space and his disposal is excellent. Maybe it's because we have more insiders and therefore he's able to get outside a bit more and maybe it's because he's worked hard like he always does. I really like to see the ball in his hands now, that wasn't always the case. Jack Watts' dropped marks were very frustrating but glass half-full is he is getting to the front in the contest and providing an option going forward through heavy congestion. If he holds those marks, with his disposal on the other side, he's very damaging. I think he's working very hard on his game.

  44. I tend to think that Nev is probably the least naturally talented of the AFL Jettas, but he is by far the most professional and hardest working. That's the reason he's so highly regarded within the club. He has the work ethic and discipline that his cousins lack.
