Posted on Facebook by a demon supporting mate of mine who was at the game today: "think it was Sidebottom at one point lost his shoe at the end of the first half, didn't worry about putting it back on till the siren sounded. Watched Ben Kennedy (former Magpie) pick it up and walk it over to Sidebottom and went to hand it over, Sidebottom reached for it and as he did Kennedy hurled it over his shoulder and kept walking. HAHAHA. Nice Work." GO DEES!19 points

Bugg had 29 touches and 9 tackles today. Zero chance of being dropped. Same goes for Tyson and Lumumba. You guys are crazy.18 points

I understand that if a ball is touched on the goal line and there is uncertainty the umpires might review. I even understand that if the umpire DOESN'T call touched off the boot and the ball goes through the goal that they may want to review to see if it is touched. If there is NO call from the umpire you, as a defender or attacker, will not alter your decision as the ball comes towards you. However, yesterday, the umpire clearly called a ball that was kicked at Collingwood's goal "touch play on" loudly and clearly. The ball just flew over the players heads in the goal square and went through and the umpire then asked for a review to see if his call touched call was right. I'm not sure this is not taking a review too far. When the umpire called touched play on as the ball is coming towards the goal , that may change the way defenders/forwards actually go at the ball. I don't think a review in those circumstances should be allowed. A review should not be allowed where the original call of the umpire may impact the way the players attack a contest.16 points

Watching the Watts on ground interview after the match and he mentions H speaking to him about the 2010 Premiership and about belief (which you can very much picture Lumumba doing) and then there is the shot of the Melbourne players walking off the ground and their are a lot of hugs and back slaps for H. Perhaps he could be one of those players whose worth is valued way more than what they just produce on the field. I am becoming a big fan of his16 points

Posters are continually forgetting that Oliver is and has been playing restricted game time. He again only played approx 69 minutes TOG on the w/e. I disagree he looked tired, he just wasn't seeing as much of it as he did last week and I think people are confused because of the difference in possession numbers from this week to last. But it doesn't necessarily mean he's tired. Just didn't get enough of it. He simply doesn't waste a disposal when he has it and he actually looks to move it in a proactive way. His tackling and handballing in close yesterday were highlights and I think he'll be needed against Richmond on Sunday night. Ben K interestingly enough had the least amount of TOG which gives me the impression he was a bit fatigued during the week. Brayshaw wasn't concussed so he'll be playing next week. Got a knock to the head, had a concussion test which he passed and then played the game out. Was also on restricted minutes and he was solid yesterday so can't see why he'd be dropped at all. I did witness some sore bodies by the end yesterday in Harmes, Tyson and Matt Jones. We're in a great place in regards to injuries atm and we have the luxury of bringing in fit players for sore/fatigued ones and I think that might be reflected in the changes against Richmond. Vince and Garlett are automatic inclusions based on their body of work for our side. A really tough selection week though. Go Dees.14 points

Well based on yesterday's performance I was proven wrong and gladly so. Don't you love it when previous posts come back to bite you on the arse? This is one example of where I'm happy to admit it though14 points

Just wanted to add what a fantastic banner the cheer squad put up yesterday for the boys. That's one of the best i've seen i think. Congrats to the Army. Inspiring stuff Gary & Co! https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CgOKWp8UkAEnJKz.jpg12 points

Are you serious? Since Dunn has come into our side we've looked a lot stronger in defence as well as with Wagner as the 3rd medium tall. The only way Garland is getting back in IMO is if one of those guys get injured. He is a depth player.11 points

I was a fan the day he chose to join us. All the noise out of Collingwood about him being troublesome was ridiculous. He was mocked there for being outspoken, thoughtful, eloquent and for having decent morals. With such cerebral types as Travis 'Ian Baker-Finch' Cloke, Dane Swan and even Buckley getting stuck into him you can understand his desire to leave that neanderthal pack. He is a very good footballer and a very good role model and Collingwood did not value this. Roos did. MFC did. It looks like our players do. I love the guy. Frustrates at times but very few don't when trying to improve as our club from where we have been. Love the H fndee!10 points

How times change. Kennedy has been a revelation and Lumumba looks far better this year already, maybe his ankles were holding him back in 2015?10 points

One of the really positive things that really stood out for me, and it's a strange positive but still, 6 of the pies goals, which is most of them, were caused by our turn overs, even when they got on top in the middle a bit, they really didn't look like scoring a whole lot, our defense is extremely good and doesn't rely on individual brilliance, when we tidy up our disposal and cut the errors back i am extremely confident we'll be one of if not the best defensive team in the comp. I had a chat with Cam Ling a few months back and i mentioned i was a Dees supporter and he said to be really patient with us this year, very similar to what Bomber and Macca did at Geelong they got the contest and defense right and then worked on the aggressive transition, he said geting that right means at times it'll be extremely exciting and at times extremely frustrating, and the ball movement is really the biggest and last domino that needs to fall for a side to really climb the ladder fast. I think that sums up where we're at to me, we beat the Giants, Should have beaten the drug cheats, maybe got ahead of ourselves, should have beaten North, by our own admission silly mistakes cost us that game, and should have beaten the pies by a lot more, we have some lapses which are frustrating but you can finally see a little glimpse of the end product imo. One of the big positives for me today was who wasn't playing for us, Vince has picked up 8 of a possible 9 brownlow votes in his last three games vs the Pies, that's a huge out, right as he was hitting form and Jeffy is as important as anyone in our front half. we seem to have stopped relying on Hogan as much since he's moved up the ground and the last two weeks our delivery inside 50 has been so much better!9 points

Personally i thought he gave us many years of solid efforts (and some not so solid) but in some ways he was about the only highlight real for us during some very grim times, including live and tv coverage highlights. Without Howe we probably would have seen very little else of our matches or received any coverage (other than the grim bits...and there were so many) after the game was shown (fox or free). He probably switched off a little in the last season or so which made him look pretty bland and annoyed some of us at times but he wasn't the worst on our list during this period by a fair way. Good luck to Jumping Jeremy. Hope he does well at his new home and finds his niche. Preferably not against us though9 points

I'm no mathematical genius, but I'd reckon based on this that if we put Ron Barassi into the guts, then we could play a grand final this year?8 points

Good question. As someone pointed out in the post-match thread, you'd be pretty upset if the umpire called "touched - play on" so your defenders shepherded it through, only for the review to reveal it wasn't touched. Once the field umpire has yelled "touched - play on" then the "touched" part should not be in question because the players have already acted up on it. The umpire should be informing the goal umpire that the kick was touched and that is the end of it. The score reviews really should only be for reviewing elements inside the goal umpire's jurisdiction.8 points

Rest Oliver? Y'all are crazy. He'll love playing Richmond. Especially if Richmond get all clampy on our other inside mids, he'll have a clearance field day. I don't think he needs a rest at all. He just wasn't used as much in the guts today, probably not needed. I'll have to watch the replay but there was one bit when Collingwood were mounting a comeback and Oliver turned on the intensity in the middle, hitting contests and tackles and made sure there was not a Collingwood clearance. He has game sense. Vince in. Hunt out. Garlett only if completely fit. Watts out. Just kidding. Lumumba out. Damn it just kidding. Anyone with a niggle, I'm sure we'll get our weekly mystery injury.8 points

Seriously think these guys could become our Brereton and Dunstall over the next half dozen years. Both are quick, very strong marks, have such sublime skills and smart footy brains. That Hogan pass to Jones in Q4 was just so smart because he saw him on the far flank then faked like he was going to kick to watts which pulled the defenders away from Jones. The way the game is moving with the interchange cap really suits them both too as they are likely to get more space to work in. They are becoming a really exciting 1-2 act and if the weed comes on like we hope our tall forward line could be the envy of the competition soon.7 points

Even if Kelly turns out to be the second coming of Jesus that is not the point. If a journalist wants to make a comparison between two players they should have knowledge of the two players they are comparing. To admit that he had never seen Tyson play tells me what a hack journalist he is.7 points

Newton scored a goal that I saw, so not sure if these stats have been lifted from official stats. And yes, he was on limited game time as was Max King, who was also playing his first competitive match for the season. Thus Kielty took most of the ruckwork when he wasnt in the rooms getting patched up from 2 separate knocks in first and second quarters. So to lose Oscar Mac very early, and have two players playing their first hitout at any level for the year means our last quarter demolition is all the more credible. That's 21 goals in our two 4th quarters this year, fitness levels are evidently good. Garland after a slowish start was fantastic, he was running out of defence with confidence we havent seen from him for a while, and he also took several telling marks from long bombs in. After a slow first quarter and a bit, Trengove really got into the thick of the action, he's still a tremendous tackler, and very good in close. Speaking of in-close, Neal-Bullen is too good for this level. His awareness by hand in the packs is first class, as is his ability if the situation arises to quickly get boot to ball to clear it. If only Tyson had his smarts Dom would be a Brownlow contender. Terlich was easily BOG. I know it's not the thing people want to hear, but he was seriously in everything all day. Made 1 maybe 2 errors all day, so his ball use and awareness of teammates positioning has definitely picked up. White is a more skilled version of him, but finds it harder to find the pill with the regularity that Terlich does. Michie was our best midfielder for the whole 4 quarters, continually racked up stats, but needs to kick the ball longer, some of his short kicks were found wanting. Grimes was outstanding on the opposite wing to Trengove. he found plenty of the ball, and used his smarts to get forward and create and score goals. Petracca was very good, first time I've seen him in the flesh. His workrate is first class, he dropped back across half back a couple of times when we were kicking against the breeze to intercept and create scoring chains. His sheer size is frightening, he monstered a couple of Collingwood players with tackles, and his sheer presence coming at them forced turnovers also. As mentioned in another thread, his field kicking is still a work in progress, he tried to be too precise with flat, fast passes that missed targets on at least 4 or 5 occasions but he's clearly still a class above this level. Weeds was decent, a few of good leads were ignored or the ball kicked too high for him, workrate and fierceness at the contest well founded. Got most of his goals later in the contest, you can see there's a really good key position forward in him, just needs some more time in the gym. A couple of late season games a la Oscar Mac would be a good appetiser I think. Hulett only flashed in and out of the game, he's still a long way off but is a good size and led to the pockets well for his two goals. Not sure what role they have him pencilled in for long term but clearly he'll have this whole year to find his niche at Casey. First time I've also seen Joel Smith in the flesh, he seems to have pretty good footy smarts and doesnt mind a dash out of defence also. Went for a couple of leaps that had me having flashbacks to #29 in his prime, alas he got nowhere near the footy. Look forward to seeing his gradual improvement this year. Of the Casey players was very impressed with Pattison as a small backman, Rutherford continues to improve and impress, and you can see why Kielty is on the radar of recruiters, he's undersize for the role he's playing but really attacks the contest well. Munro is also a very good VFL onballer/half forward.7 points

Remember when Scully and Trengove were drafted and immediately came into the team and were our best mids, or at least in the best 4 mids. Now Tracc can't even get a game. Oh we have come a long way.7 points

I like Burgs post match interview with Jones Burgs. "So what was it like coming up against your old mate Jeremy Howe" Jones. "Not much was said, he chose to leave" and then Jones just shrugs his shoulders. You get the feeling that this group is fairly tight. To leave it isn't looked upon favourably7 points

Your harsh on Dunn. He won numerous one on ones against Cloke and took him to the cleaners. His kicking is such a weapon that its able to break through opposition defence zone.6 points

I can confirm from a mate who played at Collingwood that he is one of the most genuine good guys you can meet and the outside perception of him is totally wrong. All the players loved him there and he was good mates with Swan.6 points

Can I just say that the role Vanders is playing is exactly the role I knew we would shoehorn him into for convenience/no other options - that high half forward role is something he does ok, but he is a mid. He is a ball chasing mid with toughness and height. Get his ankles right and run him through the middle more. Then we will see a return to his 2015 form.6 points

What the hell is that ? A business as big as the AFL and at a press conference you can only hear the coaches answers - not the question. Seriously amateur hour.6 points

The addition of Wagner and Dunn is clearly more effective and has changed the dynamic of the back-line for the better. Obviously it's two games in but Wagner has already demonstrated why the coaches have given him the nod over Garland. Yesterday he showed more aggression, intensity, skill, composure and intercept play than I have seen from Garland in years. No exaggeration. I'd go as far to say that if Garland had played like that yesterday, ye ol' trusty posters in Wiseblood and co would be PM-ing me in sheer excitement as to what they'd witnessed whilst in addition asking that I go into space and take my helmet off. Whilst there were still some moments of hesitancy and poor decision making from young Wagner, his proactive and positive contribution far outweighed those negative aspects of his game. Wagner also showed his appetite for intercept marking, something Garland has in the past been known for. Another positive for the young fella. On a positive note for Colin, it's good to hear he had a solid game for Casey. All of these things bode well for the MFC at large. Remember that. Dees.6 points

6 weeks imo, it was totally out of line, the players know not to leave the grand and bumping head high will cause them to miss weeks, May had other options and he went full pelt at Martin and took him out, i can't see there being much sympathy6 points

I'm thinking that maybe we needed that loss against Essendon...that's probably provided the team with its new found focus and intensity.6 points

Whoever mentions Lumumba as an out should be banned from here. This run and carry game style is suiting H and now starting to get back to his best football he played at the pies. He is not the only one who makes mistakes but he is so vital in getting the ball moving forward as quickly as possible.6 points

What i really liked about today was Hogan clearly didn't feel he had to carry the scoring of the team, even with Garlett out, so he got up the ground and made a huge impact around the ground and Watts was dominant deep, some weeks it'll be the other way around and Hogan will get on the end of a few but it's fantastic how well they're working together!6 points

Comparing Barrett to pondscum is a little harsh. Pondscum, also known as 'microalgae' is used to make vitamins, proteins and some dyes. Barrett on the other hand, serves zero purpose.6 points

What's better than beating Collingwood, I know beating them twice in the one afternoon. Dees and Scorpions both beat Collingwood and Scorpions on top of VFL ladder with 300%. Dees win today was better than the stats show. The number of scoring shots makes it look like Collingwood were just inaccurate as Hodge, Matthews would have you believe. However in the Dees scoring shots there were no rushed behinds, but of Collingwood's 13 points 5 were rushed and 1 touched. 15 of the 22 today have played less than 55 games and the Pies had 8 players under 55 games. Hawks had 7 with 55 games or less, Bulldogs had 11 with 55 games or less, Kangaroos had 3 with 55 games or less.5 points

I've gotten stuck into Watts over the years as many on here would know. His game is now complete, on top of elite disposal and his reading of the play he now attacks the contest. If not for the dropped chest mark he would of had 5. I'm genuinely bloody pumped for him.5 points
