  1. Got down for a look and was impressed at what was on display. No good at these things but since there's no reports so far I'll try put a few things down. I was about 20 min late and walked into a fast paced ball movement/decision making drill. I try get to a few training sessions each pre season and haven't seen this before. I should mention that Goodwin and McCarthy were running training and I didn't see Roo's all day. It was play on at all cost with sharp decisions which were generally hitting there targets. It was a great drill cause not only was it teaching the boys about ball movement it was teaching the defending group about guarding space or when to fully commit to the ball carrier. A couple of other notes from today. - I'm a Kent fan and he was running the boundary and he's a beast. Big thighs, thick through his chest. If fully fit come round 1 should be in starting 22. - they did simply things like goal kicking for 10 min. Garlett was doing dribble kicks, Hogan leading and marking, mid field clearance work. Backs intercept marking. Rucks tap work then tackle and spread. It was just the little things but to be honest things we need to make instinct and not stop and think oh yeah I need to be doing this. - loved the banter in the goal kicking. Gawn most vocal and pretty funny. Watts had a bit to say and you can see his very well liked by the boys. - running drill at the end was 2 sets of 10 x 100m sprints. Getting to the last couple you could see a few boys struggle then McCarthy yells out "talk and help each other through" to which a few boys piped up. Gus was struggling and Watts was tapping him on the back until the last one Watts almost run the last with his arm around Gus's waist encouraging/helping him through. They crossed the line and the two embraced for a while, nice touch. - Track said its a small fracture and not as bad as first thought, said media made it bigger than it is. - The team is looking big as in height and size. At one stage midfield was Vanders, Gus, Tyson and Gawn. I could only think that it would be a little imposing with the size. I've been writing this for over an hour and can't recall what I've said but that's what happens with 3 kids. Hope someone can take a little from this. Cheers

  2. Here are some pics from todays session ! I reckon my gf did a pretty good job, considering 1. She's never been to a training session in her life and 2. She's not a photographer. Enjoy guys! https://deestraining.smugmug.com/Dees-Training-Casey-Fields/

  3. Girlfriend got down there for her first training session after I successfully convinced her over the xmas break to change from the Saints to the Dees. She's still learning all the players, but she took some great snaps! I will upload them at some stage this afternoon!

  9. SWYL you keep saying she should have done something. Why should she have to do anything? By suggesting it is up to her to put him in his place you suggest that it is her responsibility. That is placing a burden / responsibility on the victim. By doing that you have placed blame on the victim, (she should have done....) The extension can be drawn that women should not wear short skirts or reveal too much skin or go out after dark or should put sexual harasses in their place, can you see that? This is not a personal attack, but we need to be aware that our words, actions and inaction's have an effect on others, you have said that you have been a victim of discrimination. You should not have to defend yourself, good on you that you have but it is not your or her responsibility. As a community we need to protect those that are discriminated against, are harassed or victimised. You are no doubt a strong character and have found ways to get on in life, not every victim is able to do that. We need to help all victims without asking more of them.

  10. looks to have it all - good hands, speed and agility, good kick on both sides. May well have been the reason we cashed in next years pick. Can't wait to see Sam and Hogan together on our forward line. Delicious!

  20. I think it would be a fantastic curtain raiser that would, hopefully in time, be referred to as a 'double header.' I'm a huge fan and supporter of the women's game but realistically, for it to be successful you need to tap into the already established fan bases of the AFL clubs. That means holding the matches on the same day and the same venue as the AFL matches. I dread to think of a Women's League match being attended by 1000 people at a windswept Whitten Oval, being televised on 7Two. Hopefully,in the near future, people will head off to see two great matches of football on a Saturday afternoon, rather than a 'curtain raiser' followed by main event. But until the fan base is secured, align it with the established matches and fixtures.

  23. Wow.....The overreaction to this injury is mind blowing. We have posters wanting to fine a player for an injury, other posters stating he must have been doing something stupid without knowing the circumstances. Posters writing off the career of a player.....Posters becoming Doctors with diagrams of feet. And I say how DARE he go outside when not required to by the footy club. Doesn't he know that all 20 year old footballers sit on the couch and play X box, I just don't know what he was thinking. Doesn't he know that it's a dangerous world out there? Seriously, I jagged my hamstring walking the dog 3 days ago. That's it never walking him again. (It had nothing to do with my age ....Honest) You cannot wrap players in cotton wool and they have to have other interests than football 24/7.

  24. A year since Charlie and some fool has attempted an attack on a Paris police station, apparently to coincide with the anniversary. This one looks, though, more in line with Marx's dictum that history occurs twice, the first time as tragedy, the second as farce. As Charlie said late last year, in true Situationist style: 'They have weapons. F--- them. We have champagne!'

  25. Yeah I was stunned by that too CFH. Yet Fisher keeps his... It's just wrong. Rams and Chargers are now favs to go to LA. Seems the Raiders aren't due to the good old days when there were fights in the stands amongst Raiders fans (gangs I read between the lines) and players use to tell their families not to attend games. the Mayor of St. Louis has debunked claims from stan that he had been trying to get a new stadium since 2002 by saying he has never met Stan. I keep hoping we don't move.

  26. Oh FFS. Hmmmm double standards? Like how women weren't allowed to vote, were told what to wear, not allowed in certain establishments, how they're paid less, have less opportunities (especially in sports), whistled and yelled at every day, beaten and murdered by their partners over 4x more... Yep, there is a bit of a double standard I reckon... This widely shared post sums it up for me: "Okay, here's the deal for all the BLOKES sharing the footage of that one time a woman hit on a man on TV and asking where the outrage is (E.g. Sunrise weather presenter Nuala Hafner hitting on the dude on the beach): Women are subjected to harassment and discrimination almost every day of their lives. From walking to the shops, using public transport, drinking at a bar... just being out in [censored] public around men. Multiply that 'every day' scenario by an average of say, 20 years, and would you agree that it might wear a bit thin? You might even start to feel like a piece of meat, or that you're lesser in some way to men? Simply there to serve men's needs etc... Then add the fact that they're underpaid when compared to men, beaten and killed weekly by men in domestic partnerships, and a plethora of other examples and scenarios on a daily basis where men exert their dominance over women. So when Chris Gayle is just 'having a bit of a muckaround with Mel', maybe think about the fact that Mel's been subjected to that [censored] her ENTIRE [censored] LIFE. How do I know? Because I've objectified women as a young male, and so have you (you're [censored] lying if you say you haven't). So you can shove that 'double-standards / selective outrage' [censored] right up your privileged male arses. Maybe try to add something constructive to the conversation and lead by example, especially if you're raising children. Add to the behavioral change all of us blokes need, rather than sharing this predictable [censored] male response, it's [censored] embarrassing."

  27. I have the facts. Petracca is out for 4-6 weeks with a busted up fifth metatarsal. He did it playing basketball in his backyard. A selection of posters think he is a bit of an idiot. A selection of posters think it's just one of those things. I'm not bothered. It is what it is. I'm a Zen buddhist though.

  28. Great thread P-man. I can never understand the hate for Garland. An absolute warrior in a dark period for the MFC. He is a pure kick of the footy despite what some on here think. His decision making hasn't been flash every single time but nor would Judd's or Ablett's playing in our backline over that period. You are in a pressure cooker with limited mates. Everyone knows he plays on the fastest smalls and strongest talls, his versatility is unquestionable. Loves the MFC and has said a premiership at another club would mean nothing too him. He hasn't been fit for years. Watch out this year when he does a pre-season (he did last year but finished half a lap behind everyone else, even in the 400m's). Roos will rotate him through the midfield more often, he (Roos) loves the bigger bodied players.

  29. Been reading the player by player updates by Paul Roos and two players that I thought was interesting. JAMES HARMES – No.43 Date of birth: 5/10/1995 (20 years old) Height: 185cm, Weight: 80kg AFL debut: 2015 AFL games: 8, AFL goals: 3 Position: Midfielder/forward Recruited: Devon Meadows (Vic)/Dandenong Stingrays (Vic) Drafted: 2013/14 Rookie Draft (No.2); 2015 NAB AFL Draft rookie elevation “Harmesy probably started a little bit slowly and a little bit behind where we hoped he’d be, which then puts pressure on every session, as you can’t afford to miss them. But pre-Christmas he really picked it up and his last two or three weeks before Christmas were really good. Hopefully, he’ll improve on last season, because he finished off the year really well.” – Paul Roos The message I got from that was maybe he came back not doing the work required set out for them in the off season? I know young players who have had a good debut year tend to get carried away and probably don't put in the hard work in the off season but as Roosy said they do pick it up straight away. JESSE HOGAN – No.1 Date of birth: 12/2/1995 (20 years old) Height: 195cm, Weight: 101kg AFL debut: 2015 AFL games: 20, AFL goals: 44 Position: Key forward Recruited: Claremont (WA) Drafted: 2012 GWS Giants Trade Incentive Rule Selection, 17-year-old access (No.2) Honours: NAB AFL Rising Star 2015 “Jesse came back and was a little underdone, but he doesn’t take long to get into shape. His is all about balance – getting the balance right between running, football and off-field. He’s had a bad back in the past, but he’s really working well and he’ll be in really good nick heading into our pre-season camp in mid-January.” – Paul Roos Thought this bit was interesting as well.. Maybe just got a little too comfortable with his first year? Actually I must admit I am looking forward to seeing if he can back it up again next season. LIAM HULETT – No.27 Date of birth: 17/3/1997 (18 years old) Height: 193cm, Weight: 94kg AFL debut: yet to debut AFL games: 0, AFL goals: 0 Position: Key defender/forward Recruited: Bonbeach (Vic)/Dandenong Stingrays (Vic) Drafted: 2015 NAB AFL Draft (No.46) “Liam is like the other first year players – it’s all about getting used to the schedule and getting up early and doing all the things you have to do to be an AFL footballer. He’s got an AFL body – he’s a big, strong lad. But he’s just been getting used to training since arriving at the club,” – Paul Roos My favourite part quote

  41. I think you are right, but there is a time and a place. She is working on live TV, she is put upon, how should she react? What if she was interested but did not want to let on on national TV? It was simply the wrong time and place to make a pass like that. He should have waited until she was not working on live TV, he may have received a more positive outcome. If he really wanted to go out with her he would have waited, so what he was infact doing was playing a power game, he intended to make her uncomfortable. Sleezebag! Edit:- Gayle not you.

  42. NO Clubs should be allowed players to complete their lists, particularly Essendon! They haven't got 34 to replace any longer (i.e. 12 only) so they still have enough players remaining on their list to field 22 plus still have emergencies! Further they have been beneficiaries of some very low draft picks last year plus they benefited from trading 5 of their affected played so effectively they have traded off the risk/penalty to opposition Clubs. As for the five players who are now with other Clubs, the MFC FD knew the risk associated with Melksham (as did Port Adelaide and the other Clubs effected). A penalty is not a penalty if the parties get compensated for their misdeeds (or, in our case, for our calculated gamble in trading for Melksham)!

  46. A great rap from Roos for Hunt: “Hunty’s really grown – literally. He now has an AFL body and he’s got elite speed, which we’re starting to see at training. He’s come out of his shell a bit with his personality. It’s been hard for him, when you’re not playing and you’ve been out injured for most of the time. Now, he’s back in training and really enjoying it and doing well, so he’s starting to have an impact, which is good.” – Paul Roos For a while there Hunt was struggling to make an impact even at Casey and some doubted he would get a new contract. We don't really have players with 'elite speed' and with 'an AFL body' but given Roos comments he will get his chances in 2016. He provides more competition for the on-baller spots...at 187cm he is one of the taller guys vying for those 10-12 roles. Looking forward to a really good year from him be it at Casey or the seniors. Just hope he stays injury free and has a really good run at it.

  47. Players get paid a shitload and I cannot see any excuse (injury excepted) for not meeting the targets they were set for the off season. If this is indeed the case ,it is extremely disappointing and does not bode well for the culture we supporters are told is being built.
