  1. We'll be taking Parish with pick 3. Essendon wanted him with pick 4 so we made the deal with Gold Coast to get pick 3 and pinch him. Bookmark it. He's the best midfielder in the draft (after Hopper who goes to GWS as an academy pick). His decision marking and skills are elite. He's not super quick, but reads the play well so he always gets to where the ball heads. Despite his size he isn't a pure outside midfielder like some peg him to be. He's more than capable of winning his own ball as his stats say. Roughly half his possessions are contested and he usually gets 7-8 clearances a game. He'll be at worst a solid midfielder at AFL level, and at best he'll be elite. Lucky we get him with pick 3! Pick 7 will be whoever falls. Hoping Francis slips through to us there as he is super talented, but will be happy with whoever the club chooses. It's nice to finally trust the club to get these decisions right!

  3. Interestting isn't it,? g smith and I had some interesting convos over the journey and of late Dazzle 36 and I have had some terse words , But I do take a postive in that both posters particularly Dazzle, when I gave myself a 1 month ban were quite happy to engage and dare I say it welcome me back. I do rate gsmith, Dazzle 36,Chook in perth, Bitters Lime and sour, Earl hood,King dings opinions , and welcome all to a "Soap Box" forum I suppose what we should be trying to do is express opinion without malice and free from personal attacks, The internet is great but maybe far to easy to make personal cpmments before withdrawing into annonimity ( have I spelt that right)? I also think that many many on this sight want , need, yearn for our team to experience the "Ultimate success" of a premiership that we become blindsided, frustrated and ultimately angry and lose our perspective! We will get there and we are working pretty well towards that task! Go Dees!

  6. In the entire time I've been coming here I've rarely if ever seen a poster more intent on being confrontational from the get go than yourself. Supporting the Dees might feel like a prison sentence, but this place isn't a prison. You don't need to stab someone in the first week to show that you mean business. The majority of your contributions that I've seen are putting other posters down with little to no substance behind it. I don't know if it is your way of showing that you won't be pushed around, but all you've done is give a very negative portrayal of yourself. And you have the gall to accuse others of "standing over you" as a newcomer? When you act the way you do, people who don't know you from a bar of soap are less likely to not respond in kind. Demonland has its faults, but one thing that I've seen improve over time is the manner in which newcomers are accepted. If you aren't feeling welcome, it might be time to reflect on how you are acting.

  7. You're mad, seriously. I have no intention of giving you an even break, you pathetic little man. From the moment you started posting, anybody who disagreed with you was subject to abuse. Yes, you were the one abusing others and on a regular basis. I.e. loser, hero, [censored]. It was a heady mixture of paranoia, shite writing and trying to locate other posters to abuse. You sent me private messages which were meant to be threatening but were the work of a simpleton and truly bizarre. This 'cowards standing over you' horseshite makes me want to vomit as does the 'wouldn't say it to your face' crap you go on with. And I have no doubt whatsoever that you would be as weak as pi55. What's really odd is that now you mix rambling, vitriolic murmurings with regular comments. If you're on medication, I suggest it's either too much or not enough. So leave your witless, ' poor me,I'm a victim' garble to your psych, whom I can only assume is on a healthy retainer. Go Dees.

  8. PROS: -good mark. -good inside player. -good outside player. -finds the footy. -brings team mates into the game. -good kick. -good visions. -HITS TARGETS INSIDE 50. -Plays forward (good for new rotation cap). -tackles. - runs/works hard - Goodwin has already been watching him at the Falcons, talking to him in the rooms (confirmed by my friend who works with them) CONS (according to some experts on here) - too short -too light (even though he is roughly the same weight as Fyfe and Sloan when they were drafted) - looks like a Disney Prince

  10. I've noticed in the last year or so that there has been a lot of stupid bickering and name calling derailing threads. I'm just asking can you please stop this rubbish? If you don't like or agree with someones opinion so much that you feel like you have to respond with insults why don't you just put them on ignore. It is becoming a chore to read through some of these threads listening to you guys throw stupid insults at each other. Dazzle, Moon, Stuie (I know there's a lot more but that's all I can think of right now) I'm talking to you guys. I enjoy reading your posts on football but for a long time it has just been you guys calling out other posters and such. I know a lot of posters are dumb and I'm probably one of them but for someone that comes here to read about Melbourne news it sucks to have to wade through pages of posts of you guys just arguing together.

  12. I'm pretty sure we have every base covered. A delicious melting pot of crazies. Re Parish's looks, he'll only get targeted if he plays in a manner that attracts such attention. Fyfe is widely admired and praised. Watts attracts derision from all corners. Both boyish looking with pretty hair. Poles apart in the way they play.

  13. He is quite good, he runs hard defensively, you'll often see him working back to defense and helping clear the ball, the only knock i have is some of the bigger bodies can slip his tackles from time to time, having said that a year or two in the gym and he's not going to have an issue there. kid is exactly what we need.

  14. Don't understand why so many who complain about our depth want Matt Jones out the door so quickly. He shouldn't be anywhere near the 22, but we have 40 senior list spots. Played 9 games this year and is a consistent utility type. Happy to have him for next year, then reassess.

  18. Not sure if this footage has been uploaded on demonland but I found this through the Sydney FC website. In short, we want this kid wearing the red & blue next year http://m.sydneyswans.com.au/video/2015-10-30/draft-prospect-darcy-parish

  19. May or may not, but when I look at the list he and Matt Jones are the only players I truly shudder at. Rewind to 3 years ago.... there were probably 15 players we shuddered at. The list turnover and replenishment has been huge.

  20. Interestingly, the odds of winning first prize in Australian Powerball is 1 in 76,767,600. In an amazing coincidence, mathematicians call that number a "Prendergast".

  21. Sheeit, imagine having a demonland meet and greet, but having name tags for each , But when entering you don't pick your own tag , but rather, another posters name/ Avatar! Now .... that would be an interesting exercise, experience?! Eh!?

  24. We had a planning day for staff and coaching for the under 16s bushies before we start up again and one of the coaching staff from the 18s who is also a great mate of mine from local footy gave me a nudge to say that the recruiting staff were up to meet with a couple of bushies and NSW boys and Oliver was one of them.

  25. I dont have a problem with Jones being on the list next year. At worse he will just be an outside midfielder depth which will come handy when the likes of Stretch and Parish get tired towards the end of the year. Jones can come in and chop out for a game or two while our young boys rest up.

  27. How can you put Ben Kennedy in the list cliggar category when he hasn't even played a game for us? Pretty silly to be honest, at least give the kid a chance to prove himself.

  28. And this is why i have been pumping up Parish.. he is a footballer first before athlete. We would be very sill to overlook him at pick 3 for Curnow as Brett Anderson is suggesting.

  30. Hawthorn just won a flag with 6 genuine mids; namely, Hodge, Mitchell, Lewis, Shiel, Hill and Smith. I'm happy to throw in Roughead to make it 7, although he spends more time in the forward-line than a typical mid. Burgoyne def/mid, Rioli for/mid, and Duryea def/mid help make up the numbers/rotations. Forming our core rotations over the next 2-3 years will be Jones, Vince, Tyson, Viney, Brayshaw, Petracca, Salem, vandenBerg, Stretch, ANB, Melksham, Kennedy, Bugg and perhaps Harmes and Trengove with some luck. I accept that not all are proven, but that is 15 names of varying degrees who will rotate through the midfield and I have no doubt some A-graders will emerge. We need to find a core 6 or 7 from that lot with other role players from defence and the forward-line. Kent and Garlett are also capable of taking turns. I don't believe the picture is as bleak as you paint it and while I'm happy to pick a mid plus forward with 3/7 I wouldn't be displeased with 2 talls. In my opinion, your view is far too bleak. If those I've bolded become genuine A-graders we're well on the way to developing a formidable midfield unit. And I'm not capping some I haven't bolded.

  32. No, it's not. It's a ridiculous assertion to say "it's a complete lottery". I didn't really want to expand, because, unlike some, I don't need to monotonously hear the sound of my own voice, and genuinely didn't think I needed to explain what was an inane proposition, however... In 31 drafts the draft pick with the most average number of games is pick 1 (143). The second highest average is pick 2 (128). The third is pick 3 (124). And lo and behold pick 5 happens to be no. 4 (103) ! If it was a "complete lottery" the top 3 draft picks wouldn't have the top 3 success rates over these 31 drafts. Clearly the science has improved over more recent years, so these types of results will continue. Nine of the top 10 draft picks (worst of those 9 being 84), average more games than any pick chosen from pick 20 onwards (assuming that pick has been involved in at least 20 drafts, which takes us to pick 75). Naturally there will be nuances where a later pick like 56 - 82 games might have 3 or 4 x 200 game players, which boosts averages, but the overall numbers (shown above) are compelling and certainly not representative of a "complete lottery". Obviously, as a Melbourne supporter I know there is no guarantee, that's obvious, but there's a reason clubs try to improve their draft position, like we did this year, and clubs like the Saints, who orchestrated 6 x top 22 draft picks over the last 2 years for this current rebuild. No-one has ever stated that drafts wouldn't be completely re-done with the benefit of hindsight, but early picks give clubs the best chance at cherry picking top end talent. To state that drafts are a complete lottery and that every pick from 1-75 has an equal value simply disregards empirical evidence. Having seen some of your postings over the journey I have no doubt that none of the above will sway you. And I couldn't care less. Cheers...

  37. Need to put a whopping big circle around the two Hawthorn fixtures. Can either look upon it as 8 points in the bin, or an opportunity to make a statement to the competition that the Melbourne they have come to love is gone. No team has treated the club with complete and utter disregard quite like the Hawks. All I get from Hawthorn supporting friends is pity. It's sickening. Their bogey side is [censored] Richmond. That alone shows how fallable they can be. Don't make outlandish statements prior to the match about them being "vulnerable". Just go out there and beat them. There are two opportunities to do so.

  38. There can simply be no more delicious bonus to getting Parish than moving a pick in front of Essendope and destroying their dreams and plans. I bet they had him pencliied in all season and have put so much time and work into him lolololol... suck a fat one Dodoro !!!!

  40. This is the footage I expected to see upon hearing Parish was a potential number 3 pick. In addition to the obvious class, quick decision making and leg speed, he also looks to be a nice overhead mark. I look forward to seeing Parish and Petracca exploding out of the midfield hitting up big forward targets in years to come...I dare to dream

  42. Big I think they are running a business that contains a competition for TV.

  43. That is a pretty poor business case and short sighted at best. 18 fairly strong clubs is far more attractive, and healthy for the league, than 6 really strong clubs, 6 OK clubs, and 6 clubs on the teat. Just one of my gripes with teh AFL and the way they run things. Stop pandering to the TV stations and do what is right for the long term health of league would be the first good step!

  44. Im still trying to understand how we play StKilda at THEIR ground and its Our home game and We play Essendon at OUR ground and it is THEIR home game. Both Saints and Ess are HOME at Etihad. Plainly just bs

  45. Some good points. Just on the Toumpas/Wines talk, I still firmly believe that the book is still open. It'll be interesting to revisit the debate at the end of their careers but I have no doubt Toumpas will eventually show why he was so highly rated. He's a confidence player, we played him too early in his career with a limited pre-season and coming off hip surgery. It was basically a horrible snowball effect. He will play his best footy with Port and I think the change is what will contribute to that.
