  2. Frawley described the win as an "odd feeling". Given he was injured and didn't play half the season, and not to mention walking straight into a dual-premiership team, I can see exactly why his first premiership feels a little odd. It's a little bit like copying answers off a cheat sheet during an exam -- you might get a perfect score, but you didn't really earn it.

  3. thanks for the PM, AF Pretty incredible that Jesse has decided to quit footy and move to Tibet to live in a monastery but good luck to him for the future

  5. Never underestimate the stupidity of other clubs. Richmond gave up pick 28 for Shaun Hampson.

  6. Fact is, pretty much everyone is up for trade, if the price is right and if the football department thinks it will help us improve. So this rumour is probably true but means nothing atm

  7. I found it astonishing that Richmond chose to use Dustin Martin as Bennell's chauffer around Punt Rd. Dusty off all players!!! Maybe it was Richmond's way of saying that we can get flogs on the straight and and narrow and you, Harley are an unreliable (but talented) [censored] so we think we can get you focussed only on footy. Then they both go out until 5am. Ha ha. Alas, Richmond have woken up to themselves. So glad we never really looked at this guy.

  8. I think everyone's had that job where you reach a breaking point and officially mentally check out. Whether from bad management, exorbitant unpaid overtime, poor conditions or otherwise, once you reach that point it's very, very hard to check back in. You could almost see Frawley reach this exact moment in the horrible Eagles loss at the start of 2014. His demeanour was horrible from that point onwards. That said, sometimes a fresh start can be the best thing for both parties. I'll go out on a limb and say both clubs will look back on last year's draft favourably. Frawley nullified the best KPF in the competition to help secure another Hawks flag, while we got the best young midfielder in last year's draft (potentially only rivalled by the player we took before him). The optimist in me hopes that our last few drafts could be for us what Hodge/Lewis/Roughead/Franklin were for the Hawks.

  10. I hate this constantly regurgitated statement. It's such a trite comment. It was done to death when Bailey took over by the "Let's Tank" sycophants on here. You may as well say that about every player over 28 including Vince, because it's highly unlikely that he'll play in a GF at Melbourne. I'd love Dawes to be traded because he's physically washed up as a player and contributes little, and not because he'll never play in a GF for us.

  11. Talking equalisation watching the NRL final, they seem to have got something right. That was a nail biter right to the end, unlike our last 3 grannies. I don't particularly like NRL but that final was riveting, unlike our final.

  12. What we should take away is that the club is apparently prepared to say sayonara. My how this place has changed. Thank god

  13. Not sure if anyone has mentioned this. It was reported on channel 7 news that we are looking to trade Chris Dawes & that Toumpas has requested a trade back to SA.

  19. Well that goes without saying. He also got a lot more than anyone here will ever get. James Frawley gave a lot to Melbourne, but it was still nowhere near enough. Certainly nowhere near as much as the real Hawthorn players have given Hawthorn.

  20. This post leaves a sour taste. I reckon Frawley did all he could for Melbourne. He's a limited player, who gave his all. I went to a club function early in the year and he was most engaging. He left, but I'm certain he would have preferred to stay given the right circumstances. I suspect he gave far more to the club than anyone posting here.

  21. God there are some rude plicks on this forum. Opinions are allowed whether right, wrong or indifferent. I thought that's what this forum was about. Hate to c how we would treat each other if we followed different teams!

  23. I'm an avid AFL follower living in Far Nth Qld for the last twenty years. I've never embraced Rugby League but in my opinion tonight's GF was way, way better than yesterday's game. Plus it had JT, the man is brilliant

  24. As much as I am not a fan of the NRL, it's a shame the Hawks and Eagles couldn't have turned on a game that had the excitement factor that was just seen in the NRL GF between the North Qld Cowboys and Brisbane Broncos. The Cowboys were trailing by 4 points (a try) and right on full time (80th minute) they scored a try in the corner to bring the scores level. The ensuing place kick from the sideline was curving and looked to be heading through between the uprights, but just caught enough of the near post to force the ball back into the field of play and no score. This meant extra time (golden point). Cowboys had first use and kicked the ball towards there scoring end for the Broncos to take possession and attempt to work the play back to their half. Unfortunately, their player dropped the ball, knocking on and the Cowboys got the scrum feed which eventuated in them scoring a field goal and winning by a single point. An unbelievable last few minutes!

  27. I'd prefer to keep him than pay part of his salary to play for another team.

  28. In another thread it was noted that Ess are interested in Dawes. So maybe he is part of the Melksham trade eg our 3rd rnd pick + Dawes for Melksham. It is hypothetical but I would do that deal in a flash! Much better than giving up our 2nd rnd, we move him while we have the chance (very hard to do when he is OOC next year) and we free up salary cap. Win/win.

  30. Liam Jones and Dawes up forward for Carlton, defenders nightmare.

  31. I thought the same thing re: Dawes - what clubs out there would take him? Of the other 17 clubs you would think that Carlton, Brisbane and possibly even Fremantle might have a look, but I doubt he will garner much interest.

  32. It's time to put our history in a leather case and seal it up Respect it but move on.....Those ffcuking Hawks have now won 13 flags....12 of which i have seen... They are officially better than us now...Fact...we could hide before but not now. We the MFC have been overtaken by the club who admired us the most in the 1950's....They grew...we stagnated....Our players become their staff!! only one way to do something about it

  34. Well on a brighter note yesterday I watched Nautanui closely. Perhaps he has been badly affected by recent personal events, but on yesterday's display I'm glad we got Jack Watts.I had expected Nautanui to lead the older and slower Hawks rucks a merry dance. But he never lead effectively, never demanded that teammates give him the ball. Although he got a lot of hitouts, and some were effective, the fact is that both McEvoy and Hale got the ball more. Considering the first 5 seconds when he roved his own hitout and had the first kick of the match, I thought he was perhaps the most disappointing player on the field

  35. Apparently he was out on the grog until 5am in Melbourne after the Brownlow. I don't care how talented he is - after everything that's happened you would think you would be on your best behaviour to prove to clubs you were worth a punt. But to miss a medical and then go out on the grog is just unacceptable.

  36. Missed a medical. All for second and even third chances but the bloke has disaster written all over him.

  37. The Sudanese were the best gladiators in the Roman days,as an aside. North have put years into him, would be nice to just pluck him away and turn him into a player but I question his skills (from the few games I have seen him play for Werribee).

  38. Chip didn't do anything yesterday he hasn't done before in terms of playing his role. Key defender....Clarko would of broken his role right down for him to keep it simple. Wear your opponent like a glove, punch the ball when it comes in, take the occasional mark if the opportunity presents. Don't try anything to fancy with the footy we have plenty of blokes around you for that. His kicking hasn't improved. His decision making hasn't improved. His football as a whole hasn't improved, when he came to play he always was a reasonable defender. He won a flag, congratulations. We got Angus.

  39. Has anyone considered that the next "big fish" might be the player we draft at pick 6 or possibly 25? Or that in Jesse Hogan, Angus Brayshaw, Christian Petracca or one or two of other youngsters we might already have our own future big fishes already?

  41. How about the hoof from Kent to Garlett on his own in that first one? On the footage it looked like a kick and hope until you see Garlett all on his own. Would have been an exciting passage to see live.

  42. Had the same emotions for Frawley today as I did for Stan Alves and Greg Wells when they won a premiership at another club. I was happy for them , and glad that they made strong contributions. Frawley leaving was totally different to someone like Scully.

  44. Good post. The beauty is that although the competition is incredibly lopsided, particularly the top 4 teams, the rest of the competition is actually pretty even. So when the top 4 teams do lose a group at once (see Geelong and soon, Hawthorn too), they will drop out of the top 4. We just have to make sure we're on the cusp of the top 4 when the current crop drop out. Once Mitchell, Hodge and Lewis retire, Hawthorn's midfield will be a distinctively different proposition. We might just be lucky and be timing our run perfectly for the next group of top 4 teams. I think GCS (if they can keep their list together), GWS (the same) and the Bulldogs (if they continue their upward trajectory) will be big players in five years time. I'm hoping we can be the other.

  45. There are too many teams in the competition, this is the problem. Any team finishing lower on the table is getting players sucked out of it regardless of their so-called culture or draft selections. Conversely, the higher teams are having players drawn toward them, you might say in a draft fashion, ensuring they remain a top team.

  46. Gibson, Lake and Frawley, what an incredible day for the Hawk's tall defenders. Between them - 70 disposals at 90%+ efficiency. 30 marks including 6 contested 25 1%ers Just one free kick given away. Only as an afterthought have I noticed all three were traded in, quite late in the building process.
