Didn't read the article, got bored with every "expert" under the sun getting stuck in to Watts, but can I just say one thing on this topic; I won't have the luxury of going to the MCG tonight to watch the beautiful way in which our diggers will be remembered through the pregame ceremony, and I won't be able to see the Melbourne Football Club play as a team and demolish the Richmond Football Club, in a gentle reminder to the football community that we are relevant again. However, regardless of what you think of the bloke, Watts is a Melbourne player, he will be one of 22 running out there tonight, and he will be one of 22 that will hopefully get us over the line. Regardless of your thoughts of him, if he, or any of the other 22 players have a bad night, for Christ's sake, don't "boo" him. I couldn't give a toss if one of their supporters gets in to him, but our own "flesh and blood", it makes me cringe when I hear of such things. There's always going to be players that we love, that we hate, that we love to hate, and that we wished we didn't hate. Watts is definitely one of those players that cops more than most - I'm not going to get in to the argument if that's rightly or wrongly. We're asking for unity at our club, both on and off the field. How about we show unity ourselves by supporting all of our 22? Go Dees.18 points

A Richmond mate invited me to join him at the "battle of the co-tenants". I pointed out that I would be attending a game on Friday night, but it is between a landlord and a one of their feral tenants.9 points

Also, I wanted to give a shout out to Dawes. He copped a lot of flak this week, and the majority of it was warranted. But I thought he really lifted tonight. Led by example in the forward line, did his best work when the game was at its hottest (first quarter), and used his body to his advantage. There's still more he needs to do, but on a night which wasn't great for talls, I thought he did a much better job.6 points

Cheers to the 4 Richmond supporters giving me [censored] during the first half. Your stony silence in the second half was a thing of beauty.6 points

Who is the genius who dug up vandenBerg from obscurity? Needs a medal. A big bodied tackling machine with skills. I feel really sorry for the likes of Jordie McK who is all heart, and has stuck through the very dark years but will really struggle to get a run.6 points

Brayshaw showed true toughness a few times. Really pleased with him. Hogan ragdolling Rance is great to see. Dustin Martin is the f*cking softest c*nt I've ever seen. He jumps on guys and grabs their throats, it's disgusting how the umps never pay frees against him for it. The second he gets tackled, throws his arms out like he's been shot by a sniper. He is absolutely gutless on top of being a filthy piece of sh*t of a human being.6 points

Amazing how much difference it makes when you bring blokes in because they're in form, not because you are dropping people and someone has to come up.5 points

Yes he is.......Nev Jetta made 2 mistakes that lead to the crows goals......Nothing mentioned here dawes missed marks he should have taken.....a couple of mentions. Tyson made a critical error but nothing mentioned Every player makes mistakes in every game.......Most goals come from turnovers ie. player mistakes But every mistake or bit of play jack is involved in is jumped on by posters here and the media Other No 1 picks do not get the scrutiny Jack does....Scully has a bad game....No one says a thing(Media) Swallow......Good player but inconsistent in a fledging side Patton........Did his knee but showed not a great deal beforehand Whitfield....Some good form and probably will be good. We should be looking at what the side does as a whole.....Not pointing the finger a ONE player5 points

Just got home from the game - bloody brilliant. So proud of the boys. I enjoyed the whole experience. Had a cry when Ron held up the flame, sang the national anthem with gusto, screamed my lungs out, watched the Richmond supporters leave in droves and listened to the Richmond supporters ring in to the radio threatening to microwave their memberships on the way home. Great start to the weekend. The umpiring was terrible but the biggest laugh was listening to Hardwick saying Richmond "could beat anyone". He is in la - la land. We were fantastic - they were pathetic and soft. Just setting Foxtel to record the game so I can watch it tomorrow. Go Dees ❤️4 points

I hope Howe does take stock of where he's at and where the clubs at. We've essentially built from the bottom up since he's been here and plucked him from relative obscurity (can someone confirm whether or not there was interest from other clubs when we got him?) and he's now become a much loved player of the fans. That said what does his actual output command, and if he's really looking for the money then what are we prepared to give him? We overpaid a lot of players for a good while during times in which we were utter crap, I'd rather us go for a star player then top up a player over his worth. Stick with us Jeremy, we're on the way up and everything that we've been through with you will just make it that much more sweeter.4 points

We've done this to death, resuscitated it, then done it to death again. Here's hoping Jack has a good game tonight. Him kicking 2 or 3 will go a long way towards a win.4 points

This is a Ralph article so who knows what to believe but let's not forget he was playing Tasmanian league and no club was looking at him until we took a chance on him. Scully leaving hurt because he was number 1, but he never owed us anything we were just lucky we had pick 1, anyone would've taken him. Howe begged us for a chance, we gave it to him and he's looking to up and leave when the team needs leaders coming forward to take this team up the ladder... Pathetic attitude players have these days and I wonder how Frawley etc could even look Jones in the eye. If he's wanting to leave to a contender for an armchair ride, I'd be wanting to make sure the door hits him on his way out.4 points

Julian Burnside has been taking the Essendon/Little money from the first days of Hird's coup to oust Evans. He is just another acolyte of the Hird propaganda machine. As far as the 40 cases in 1000 is concerned, that is very simplistic. Most of those referrals to WADA are trivial, single athletes in minor leagues. The 40 are the high profile, major infractions like Essendon and the AFL. BURNSIDE's comments are yet another attempt to tame WADA into inaction, as part of the sophisticated PR exercise we have been witnessing for almost two years now. It is interesting that they chose a high profile human rights lawyer. It is a clever choice as he has the reputation for straight shooting honesty. Still I guess it just shows that all barristers are ultimately guns for hire and everyone has their price.4 points

Who the hell does this bloke think he is. An 80 game career with the flashes of hangers and he feels the need to put contract talks till the end of the year just to see where the club is going and a possible chance of finals in the future?? What an absolute [censored] cop out. Messege to you Jeremy Howe. Take a leaf out of Nathan Jones career who has stuck by this club through the darkest and most lowest time of its history. He didn't need to wait for future plans or etc. Also take a good hard look at your teamates in Salem Hogan JKH Brayshaw Viney who have all signed contract extensions because they know where this club is going and have the up most faith in PJ and Roosy. Pull ya finger out of your ass Jeremy or go join your best mate Frawley at the Hawks4 points

Regarding Neal-Bullen I have spoke extensively with another teams recruiting manager and he thought "Neal-Bullen was the steal of the draft" Kid is a running machine, very teachable and perfectly suited as an inside mid able to run both ways all day.4 points

It's amazing how stable our side has been so far. Michie is player #25 used, on all changes listed today only Sydney have used fewer (24), and GWS, Freo and Adelaide are equal (assuming the Crows don't pick Matt Crouch in their final side). I can't remember an MFC side so settled. This is a very good sign in my opinion. Obviously few injuries comes down to luck, but only two players have been omitted so far and one of those returned the next week. You know Michie has been forced to bust a gut to get in. Best of luck to him.4 points

9 changes to the side that played Richmond last year. Out. Pedersen, Riley, Bail, Terlich, Viney, Toumpas, Gawn, Matt Jones, Grimes In. Lumumba, Newton, vandenBerg, Garlett, Kent, Hogan, Jetta, Brayshaw, Michie A different side, a stronger side. And we actually beat them last time (despite 28 scoring shots to 21).4 points

To be fair, the conditions at adelaide weren't nearly as bad as it probably looked on TV. I was sitting by the fence and I didn't move the whole time, and my jacket was not overly wet. If anything it just made the ball greasy. Sure, it was a physical game, but that's how roos has primed us to play. In my opinion, the tiges coming off am easy game in Brisbane but in warmer conditions would probably be less ideal as a warm up, especially if tonight is wet as predicted. If we can shut down their spread and turn it into a tough, physical game I think we will win and win well. But if we allow them to get wide and spread, with easy footy they will cut us up. They still have a lot of strength in their line up.3 points

This line interests me the most: The Demons would have a massive amount of salary cap room given their young list and the departure of highly-paid key forward Mitch Clark. Would love to keep Howe but hey, would also love to use this 'massive amount of salary cap room' to lure a BIG name youngish mid, or 23 points

It's the curse of being born a pedant. I similarly detest the use of the word "average" to mean "poor" and anyone who claims they are "putting in 110%". I appreciate that English, probably like all languages, is fluid and that many words have changed their meanings over time ("terrific" being an excellent example. I don't think anyone uses it meaning that the matter is terrifying.) Right now, however, I'm not ready to allow "literally" to mean "figuratively" when there are perfectly good alternatives which could be used.3 points
