The other possibility is to give posters who respond to others with personal criticism instead of sticking to the subject a holiday from the site. It's not only under consideration but will be enforced from the next training thread.11 points

Apologies for doing something which I criticize below, but I needed to start somewhere. This is my first post here, but I have been reading ology or land since at least 2002, (or maybe 2000), I cant remember which site I found first and the exact year. I am sickened by the amount of venom and bile which is generated on this fan site. I read extreme black and white, saintsational, bomberblitz and bigfooty, but 'land takes the prize for this. Not only does it derail the thread, but as another poster has mentioned on another thread, it has many of the earmarks of cyber bullying. If this was happening to your children, who would believe it to be acceptable? (and I know we are not, mostly, children). Do the moderators believe this level of abuse is appropriate? While I'm at it, (hence my apology on the first line), why do the moderators permit the gross derailing of threads. many examples of course, but the most recent one which really shat me off was the potentially very interesting thread on McCartney. Within three posts this had turned into a thread on Burgan. Does the Code of Conduct have any purpose? Perhaps the moderators could start a thread and explain how the Code is interpreted and applied, - just so the boundaries are clearly understood by simpletons like myself. I am a rusted on Melbourne supporter and member, I love the thoughts and information of posters who know much more about matters than I do. Maybe I am out of touch with the realities of civil conduct in the modern day and rather than getting upset, I should stop visiting this site.11 points

TDI, This is my 10th year of being on this site. I just noted I have ticked over a month without a post which, for those that remember back when, a day without a post would have been unheard of. I don't even check in daily anymore and one of the only reasons I continue is to read your training updates. They provide great insight for those that can't attend rather than the cookie cutter interviews and pieces offered over the summer on the official site. I take from them what I choose and move on from the bits I don't care for. I don't agree with all you post but I don't expect to and take it as your insight or opinion borne of the same enthusiasm or insanity that we mainly all share for the MFC. It's sad that others can't do the same as the site will be lesser without your input. All the best. Go Dee's. BRFE.10 points

Er... I'd say Carey was pretty much spot on. Did you read the article or hear him on the radio re this? Carey the footballer is a premiership capt and 7 x AA and has fantastic knowledge of the game and what it takes to be a great of the game. Sure, what he said wasn't flattering and he may well have said it somewhat in jest on the radio to get a rise, but he was correct about preseason training requirements. Wayne Carey outside of football (if that's what you are referring to) may not be great, but this is irrelevant to what he said about Silvia.7 points

Don't pay any attention to the crap posted by some on this site. As a country member I (and I'm sure many others) greatly enjoy your reports and look forward to them. So keep posting and trust the mods to keep the discussion on track!6 points

He is just as much to blame as anyone else. However I'm looking forward to hearing from the others who will be able to make it down and provide a straight up report. It's always appreciated.5 points

Spent most of today from 6.00AM on GD minding duties at one stage we had a concert complete with microphone guitar etc. ( kids have everything these days ) Well after a few songs PA ran out of songs so I had to use " it's a grand Old Flag" She looked at me with disdain then when I ended she said " Pa we are supposed to be having fun" Out of the mouths of babes!5 points

of course it was a dog act by mcclean was he taken into any confidences re tanking by the football dept (or anyone at the club) - no was he asked to tank by the football dept - no was he asked to tank by anyone at the club - no did he have any facts to re tanking - no did he go to a new club widely criticised for tanking - yes was he bitter/disappointed at mfc for flicking him - yes did the afl quote any evidence from him in their deliverance of findings re the mfc - no did he have anything to add to the debate other than pure conjecture on coaching decisions which everybody could see and ponder on - no did he damage his ex club and team-mates on national tv - yes was he duped or deceived by the interviewers - hardly, he was quite willing yep, a dog act mcclean wasn't the smoking gun but he allowed himself to be the catalyst for the opportunist anderson to pounce whilst his boss was out of the country5 points

So if kids can access demonland I wonder what other kinds of websites they can look at? Get off the mods backs they don't get paid for their time. At times people get on have a rant then that's the end of it. People step over the line and serve their time. If you think what has been written here is worse than what kids are exposed to through the school yard/advertising/movies/web sites ect I would suggest you get outside a bit more. For every poster having a dig at Saty there are ten thanking him for his efforts. Posters have ability to ignore other posters if they choose. One difference a forum like this has as opposed to FB is that everyone can remain anominous unless you choose to put yourself out there. I as many others do live interstate and am grateful for the services Demonland provides.5 points

The problem is, becuase not all of us have been to all the training sessions and spoken to the players there is no possible way that we can have an opinion of players.4 points

I'd suggest we do two things. 1. Have a Saty discussion thread where those that want to can [censored] all they like and the rest of us won't have to read it and every thread won't be derailed. 2. Saty can have his own training report thread. Those that don't like his reports can easily avoid them and each training thread wouldn't descend into the childish bickering that goes on now. Alternatively the mods could just decree that "Saty discussion is over, everyone has had a say" and if anyone [censored] about Saty's training reports and manner in the future they are banned. Simple. Problem solved overnight. I doubt either of these things will happen and the status quo will continue. But I agree xarronn, it's disappointing that a once great site has been let go to this extent and many of the wonderful posters who used to be regulars are now only rarely seen. Having said that, as a past moderator, it's a thankless and difficult task and with the volume of traffic this site gets it's almost impossible to keep a lid on things.4 points

Who the [censored] made you a Mod? Nobody, and let's hope to God that never happens, the way you want to dictate what is said here. You've had a crack at me before for making a simple joke, so you obviously can't handle anything negative re MFC whether it's a joke or otherwise. When you attack, yes, attack others you claim they can't handle a joke, but you clearly display a thin skin when on the receiving end. You're an attention seeker, nothing more (OK, perhaps a name dropper as well, everyone loves an ND). You just can't wait for these threads to be derailed and descend into a discussion about YOU. You stoke the fire until it ignites, that's only if your training report introductions don't do the job (lemon suckers, hairshirt something or other, no idea WTF that's about), that baiting is completely unnecessary. You are the head-derailer, and in your own words - jut silly! Here's where we part ways old boy. I had enjoyed reading your training reports until they descended into a self-inflating steaming pile of crap, and in your own words, you have left the real stuff to others. There are some really good training reports coming out now, so thanks to those posters who actually focus on the training, not their own agenda. Best of luck to you. A last piece of advice if I may. When you're taking your training photos, aim up. I see your photos and I see an alarming number of mens groins. Not the sort of thing I'm interested in. <not that there's anything wrong with that>. So ignore it is for you. I'm sure you'll get by. There's plenty on here that stand up for you, but they'll learn when their opinion differs. For the record, I couldn't give a [censored] what replies come from this. I simply want to read reports, discuss games, and have a light hearted joke here and there. Any [censored] that wants to try to control the discussion or can't take a joke, feel free to ignore me. I DGAF.4 points

I think you might be right ET. Anyway here are some more shots from the day. Just on todays session this is the first I have seen this year. Ironically I got cleaned up on my way home from the last session I attended just prior to Christmas. Being rear ended is never fun but when your on a motorbike it goes to a whole new level. As you would expect the standard has improved over that period but I was genuinely impressed by how much. To be honest I'm not much of a judge but to me the entire group appeared noticeably quicker.4 points

I went. C&B has advised players not doing drills. No sign of King, Trengove and AN-B. And I didn't see Brayshaw but he may have been there and White was in rehab. Long session. Started at about 9.45 and was still going when I left at 12.00. Hot but little if any wind so conditions were great. It was very much ball movement, match simulation at 75% pace, full ground drills. Some of the skills were very good and there were various players who made mistakes from time to time. It will be interesting to see if the intensity lifts in the coming weeks. Players to impress were Kent who I noticed more than anyone. I had him fringe 22 but on today's performance he'd seem to be well in for me. Clean overhead on the fast lead, very good kick and got it a lot. Hogan seemed to be everywhere. Lots of the ball and some good marks and good kicking. But remember the intensity is not AFL standard. JKH also came to notice, Petracca did some nice things and looks comfortable, I liked what I saw of Billy Stretch and Dom Tyson just had the ball on a string. Col Garland did the whole session and did well, Grimes was good and I noticed Pedersen a bit. Salem was clean and Vandenberg had a bit of a purple patch and looks a big strong boy. I was chatting to mates most of the day and not fully concentrating on training so these are general observations only. These match sims are really like dancing with your sister. There certainly didn't seem to be a "get the ball and go" mentality, still "mark, go back, pick an option". Unless a player was clearly in space it looked a bit stop/go to me. Just to clarify. When I mean 75% that relates to spoiling/tackling/body contact stuff. The pace of play was 100% flat out. I suppose if I had to describe training it was skills work will little if any body contact stuff.3 points

Less than a month to go before the opening of our NAB Challenge campaign and no doubt the training sessions will step up a gear from here. I'm assuming there's the usual 9.15am session on tomorrow at Gosh's Paddock and look forward to reports from those who can make it down there. While robust debate is important on Demonland, some posters are acting under the assumption that they have license to engage in personal attacks on those with whose opinions they disagree. Please remain respectful of other posters and be careful if you wish to keep posting here. Thanks.2 points

More training reports the better. Let the haters hate. the training reports are the best threads on this site. Thanks to everyone that goes Down and reports and if there are people that don't like it don't read it2 points

Saty don't let the idiots on here wreck your reports for the rest of us. Living interstate I can't make any training sessions and rarely make games, any sort of report is great reading.2 points

Yeah when you're getting career advise from a guy who shagged his captain's misses and glassed his own, you really need to have a good look at yourself!2 points

This attitude really annoys me and frankly says a lot about your football knowledge and observations. Its his 12th year in the system FCS. He was exactly the culture that set in and caused us to underperform. He wasn't alone but his CGAF attitude, I'll get by on my talent is the reason why so many juniors go on to fail or underperform at AFL level. The real crime is that our administrative and coaching culture was so weak that we didn't trade him when we realised (or worse still didn't realise) that he would never have the right attitude to get the best out of himself. Nor did we have the leaders at our club (Bruce, Whte, Yze, Green et al) that could demonstrate and demand excellence of training standards, on-field standards and off-field standards. Aside from Junior we were bereft of on field leaders which is why for so many years we would have long spells of under performance (this week is a line in the sand blah blah blah) Plenty here did recognise it early such as yours truly and got castigated for it. And worse still they aim their venom at someone like JT that tries his guts out and has had a devastating run with injury. Give me someone with Sylvia's undoubted talent but with Cross' or even Terlich's attitude and commitment to get the best out of themselves.2 points

Get the best players possible who want to come. This is not a choice between Sloan & Selwood or anyone else, until of course both say they want to come & we can only afford one. This is a thread about Selwood & he'd be a massive upgrade on plenty of blokes on our list. Clearly the club would be targeting several they feel they have a chance of landing & all those mentioned would surely be discussed by the club until otherwise ruled out. I'd take any really good FA we can land at the end of this year, it costs us nothing but the space we already have sitting there doing nothing & would really lift our stocks with the promising young list we have at the moment to land a 26 year old like Selwood in his prime. All for it if we can get him. Of course there are players I'd prefer instead out there but this one we have a history of offering contracts to & deals for, and there may well be good reasons for that beyond just he'd be an great upgrade to the list (i.e. mutual interest?). Btw, Sloan should already be at MFC, don't even get me started (again)! I'd love him too, but from the outside looking in he seems less likely to relocate. Would love to be wrong & we should definitely chasing there also, but not instead of. It's nice to be looking toward next off season & not talking about the potential high draft picks as much as the potential FA signings no? Go win some bloody games boys, make it happen!!2 points

are you effing kidding me? He cost us a lot of money and instability in the club, and compromised the reputation of the club, and you're backing him for some reason. What is with some people here? The McLean, Scully and Clark defenders who the F do you barrack for? just shut up2 points

It's hard to believe there are still those out there that feel Sylvia has the talent to be a star of the comp, but just can't put it together mentally. He's just a bog average player.1 point

Now that you've explained the process, I'm doubly shocked at how good it sounds. I've got friends who make electronic music via file-sharing but it's obviously a truckload easier to do with computer music than acoustic stuff.1 point

I think you are on to it Carlos. I think Col has just done what he has done every year with MFC. Happy to work in the gym on his physique but less likely to do the endurance work. He was always carrying something in preseason and that is when the real endurance work is done. This was tolerated at MFC as well as his habit of showing up occasionally under the weather. We should have called it earlier but then I remember the bloke we did act on many years ago for being [censored] at training, Martin Pike! Big mistake there by Balmy. Col reminds me of Jackovitch. The Ox often relates the story of Jacko saying he was injured preseason and couldn't train but would then do some unbelievable things while playing cricket. The biggest difference between Jacko and Col is that Jackovitch had genuine X factor, mega talent. Col I have never been convinced of. Physically yes if he worked hard but mentally he can often be a dumb footballer.1 point

I went, I thought they looked a lot better than when I saw them on Australia day. We look to be pretty fit, Watts did a lot of running and minimal participation, as did Bernie - but he did do a bit of a kick-to-kick at the end. He looks 100% fit to me I don't know why he is not drilling. Howe looked OK too, just running laps. Can't wait to see Petracca out there he looks totally ready for it IMO1 point

The game must go on. I have purchased my tickets and if they try to cancel the game, I'll take the AFL, Hird, Essendon, and Dank all the way to the High Court over this ... no, wait.1 point

It is absolutely BizarroWorld! Essendrug are acting like they have done nothing wrong and are the victims, you have Hird who is on a litigiousness rampage on a hiding to nothing, players continuing to train and participate in club duties in the face of infraction notices, and sections of the media that should be more learned siding with a team that has mounting evidence proving they took banned, performance enhancing drugs in an attempt to gain a competitive edge. There are also Essendrug supporters out there that still think the sun shines out of Hird's arse, and it's only a matter of time until they are vindicated, and their poor, hard-done by team can "move on" from this. When reality sets in and you have 32 Essendon players sitting in the sidelines for 2 years, major sponsors jumping off board and law suits flying left right and centre, we will have normality again, and it will be oh so sweet. This scurge that is Essendon will be a shell of their former arrogant self, and I will be on the front line laughing at their deluded stupid supporters, because I hate them and they have had it coming for a long time.1 point
