  2. I'd also add - stop the irrelevant by play between posters where every other thread descends into waffle about Romsey, the Gatt, S&M, llamas or whatever else.

  8. Traditionally, the New Year's Honours were bestowed by royalty to worthy recipients who usually worked selflessly and tirelessly sucking up to those responsible for assessing the candidates for nomination. My awards aren't like that at all - I look for people who are really special so my NY nomination goes to one of that rare breed of human who is humble and willing to make enormous sacrifices for the betterment of mankind; to a man who has given up the opportunity to play for the most popular football club in the world to join the long suffering, downtrodden and oppressed Melbourne Demons. Listen to Heritier Lumumba as he describes his love for his former coach and captain and his personal development from his early days as plain old Harry O'Brien to the his present glory as royalty personified. Along the way, Heritier has seen much doom, gloom and a fair measure of tragedy which makes him such a perfect fit as the Melbourne Football Club's recruit of 2015 ~

  10. Not a fan Jack although I watch because the Grandkids love it. Trying to help coach good technique to a 12 and 9 year old in the Big Bash climate is a nightmare.

  11. Except that his IQ is about triple that of Col and his value to the club he plays for even greater than that.

  13. I'm sick of needing someone's passing/milestone game/some other bloody reason for the players to have a crack, and what happens if we lose, then it's the whole we let him down thing. I'd go with "we will always remember you" rather than "for you".

  14. Pick exactly where you think our home should be please. 25th floor of the Rialto? Fed square? Maybe section off one of the public gardens around the CBD and just have a kick there 3 times a week? Our social club is/was in Bentleigh, where's that link? Hawthorn train at Waverley. Essendon now train at the Airport. Collingwood at Olympic Park. Our supporters come from everywhere but are probably most densely located in the inner south east. Elsternwick isn't far from there. It's certainly a good place for AFL players to train. If the opportunity arises for top class facilities and a long term rent then I'm all for it. We don't want to be sitting back in 15 years when we are booted out of AAMI and wondering why we didn't take Elsternwick. That will be the Westpac/Lexus centre all over again.

  16. They don't have to be in our top 30 to be on our list, merely in our top 44! Bear in mind that they were 3rd & 4th in the B&F post 2013 season and we haven't recruited 27 players that would see them exit our top 30!

  17. Many attacking shots are just an extension of defensive shots ... t20 creates a situation where young players are playing the extension of the defensive shots as a first option but again, it's nothing to be too worried about. Batting is an artform but there's no reason it can't be learnt with an aggressive intent. In fact, that is what is happening a fair bit of the time. The new breed of batsmen are going to be more aggressive. Take Maxwell for example - he's got all the shots and he can play defensively but ... it's his temperament and decision making which is the issue. ... and temperament and decision making can be taught & learnt. Warner is living proof of that. He's now a much more solid player - many might have thought he'd never make it as a test player. In the future, there will be many like Warner - it stands to reason. A lot of the young Indian batsmen are and will be gravitating from t20 cricket. Like most things in sport, the cream rises to the top. Kohli & Vijay have each played 6 or 7 seasons of IPL and are in high demand in the shortest form of the game. Both can play.

  18. DC oh how bad news travels fast! Yes I was refused entry to the Governor's Christmas tea party over a purely administrative oversight I believe, my name was not on their guest list. And yes some time later I was detained by security staff trying to mount the back fence to Government House from the Botanical Gardens to gain entry. Yes there was an unfortunate scene caught by ACA cameras that I now regret but my people are dealing with it and I have refused all requests for interviews with Tracy Grimshaw. Let me assure you DC that I am following up these issues with Westminster pronto!

  19. I think there is still a large amount of improvement to come through these 3 in the next few years 'rp' and they are a long way from capacity. I would expect to see all 3 in Mikes (or whoever does it now) top 50 and as 'P-man' will tell you, my expectations for Tyson in particular are high. I'm looking for significant improvement from Viney this year as he settles into his 3rd season. Similar to what the Doggies are now getting from 'Libba'.

  23. The thing that amuses me is that some posters think that some players will not improve or develop this year, that may have been right in the past but I don't think that will be the same from now on so lets wait and see before people start to mark their cards before the season begins, this year will be a very interesting year to say the least.

  24. In all seriousness, isn't it great that AFL footballers can come from any background and with IQs from both the deep and the shallow ends of the gene pool. It's a great game made even greater by its everyman status.

  25. There may be an issue with the amount of other clubs we share with at AAMI, also the lack of control of the facilities, rental and security of tenure.

  30. Exposing too many kids, too soon - leads to the malaise we entered in 2008 and have yet to come out of. Development is not about 'AFL games played.' I know this from bitter experience.

  33. Selfishly it would suit me as I live close by. We obviously need a permanent home, with the best facilities. I trust Jackson to steer us in the right direction. Like other clubs, we could get help financially from the AFL for a new facility.

  35. How to attract members in two steps: Advertise. Get members to wear demonland caps to games or something. Stop the trolling BS. The mods need to do their jobs and keep threads on track. Every thread I read winds up being derailed by the same few posters reenacting the same tired arguments. You'd be amazed how much these two things would do to improve the place.

  36. 2014 was a Yeah Na season. the 50/50 answer that has crept into society. So much early to say Yeah we are looking half decent then Na the old style crept in and we dropped the ball. I think 2015 will give us more indication than 2014. 2014 hopefully was the finally clean out, both of players that wont take us forward and of mind, the clean out between the ears that stopped us winning more games in 2014.

  37. Of course. As a footballer you should train 24/7 so if supporters ever spot you having some fun you won't be deemed to be 'unprofessional'.

  38. If you want a good beer head to the Mountain Goat Brewery in Richmond on a Friday evening. Otherwise my beer of choice is Stone & Wood Pacific Ale from Byron Bay. Great to see Cascade honour a Melbourne legend. Having said that Boags do produce much better beer, but the Moo Brew Brewery just outside Hobart is fantastic. $30 will buy you 8 stubbies from their collection of 6 (the hef was my favourite), an hour long tour and shoot some hoops at the end!

  39. I did not dismiss the theme of "big bodies" midfielders being drafted. I commented that you would expect a 22 year old to be developed and not all the footballers we have taken are big bodied. My main concern has always been posters fixation with big bodies rather than recruiting players who can firstly play football that may have big bodies. Most footballers as they mature add some size - we fixate on the exceptions like Morton and Gysberts, And you need a combination of both big bodies inside and finer footballers with more speed - as Fremantle have as well. Billy Stretch was taken for his outside speed.

  41. We had an AGM in February and not a single soul got up and spoke a single word of criticism against the Board, or Schwab or the coach or his panel of coaches. Not a single word. Not one question about the CEO's performance in running the club. Nobody spoke out about the recruiting policy. In fact, everyone was full of praise about the mix of new players on display. They were all there on show, the new, the young, the mid age, the old and recycled. Nobody chose to criticise or to send in a letter to be asked at the AGM. What's happened since then? A so/so pre season and two appalling performances by the coach and the players. And we seek to blame, find scapegoats, pillory everyone in sight including the convenient scapegoats and blindly follow what the media tells us. What they want us to think. Board members make significant contributions of their own funds and mass sackings cost more money in payouts and then there are the replacements and their cost. On top of that, who can tell us if we've really asked he right questions and got the right answers. And when it's all done and dusted, what happens if the players still don't respond and you've sacked Schwab and all of the other heads have rolled? Would the Caroline Wilson's, Patrick Smith's, Greg Denham's and all the media and armchair critics give a brass razoo if they kill the club?

  42. studies, no I do not have any idea who the hell 'rangy' is. Are you one of these types who enjoys making little snide remarks hoping for a reaction. AGAIN, my original post was to try to get something going and if that means 35000 supporters at a game with banners, placards protesting instead off a petition etc. FINE, no skin off my nose. Just because you have made 3872 posts does not make you a better or more avid supporter and able to make silly little comments. Let's try to be constructive and do something positive instead of the other.

  44. Time to put up or shut up instead of making veiled comments and operating under a cloak of secrecy which this club has become expert at since '65. That's the problem with the club too many cliques (mostly originating in the MCC) thinking they have no need to divulge sensitive info to the rank and file members. If you're unable to articulate what you're referring then I have no reason to believe it was anything other than to do with covering up the salary cap breaches from Gutnick which led to the punishment from the AFL via fines and loss of draft picks.EDIT - I also fail to see how it is irrelevant - we are talking about the reasons our current CEO was sacked by the club in his prior stint in the same role. I would think it is highly relevant to the discussion particularly considering the divisiveness he creates both inside and outside the club.
