Whilst I do not really believe we will get Danger, I don't know why you care so much, if you don't wont to see people enjoying the idea (how ever small) of one of the games best players coming to Melbourne, then simply don't click on the post.10 points

By my calculation, Dangerfield has missed 6 games in the last 6 years. The least number of games he's played in that time is 19, and he's played every game 3 out of 6 years, including this year. That hardly seems like a broken down, dilapidated old body. He's 24 years old and flying in every sense. If you reckon a bloke who's hardly missed a game since he started is showing signs of being a broken down old has-been by the time he's 29, you've got a very different take on things to me.8 points

Here we are, one of only two clubs in 20 years who missed out on a priority pick by winning one game too many and we missed it because we were blatantly tanked against by a club which has received more priority picks than any other. Our total PP collection in the 'rebuild era' has been a single pick 1 and pick 17. Collingwood got a top priority pick for a single bad year, with grand final appearances within three years on both sides of that selection. Hawthorn built their premiership list on tanking and hitting the jackpot with their selection. West Coast systematically and blatantly tanked for three years, screwing it up in the middle but earning two end-of-first-round selections along the way, and like Collingwood made top-4 appearances within a few years either side. Carlton... well, they have three start-of-first-round priority picks on their list today, and let's face it, they would be in more trouble than even we are without Murphy and Gibbs. Meanwhile, here we are, rebuilding a gutted list as a result of the disasterous recruiting and list management of Prendergast and Schwab and a string of tragic or maddening events beyond our reasonable control. They say we don't 'deserve' it, they say we need to 'build culture' first. Well, everything that can be credibly done about that is being done. We are showing that we are an organised football club again and headed in the right direction. But, we can't just magically conjure up the cattle to be realistically competitive. Our list is deeply deficient, with 'adequate for VFL' players getting games. No matter how well we manage everything we can control, we need assistance in order to bridge that gap.8 points

In other words: forget the trade that is looking viable, and go after one you have no hope of pulling off.7 points

I think the MRP have been very consistent in recent times. They've basically taken the view that nobody will miss a final, especially a "name" player from a "name" club, irrespective of any precedents that have been set during the H&A season.7 points

Sorry guys was hoping for more detail. not forthcoming. However what I did get was two other sources tell me essentially the same thing: Danger and Connors told us to sort ourselves for FA nxt year. after the events of last week, he's open to moving now. we have the picks to satisfy the Crows, and an open cheque book. Forum veterans will recall Grand Final week 2007. here we go again7 points

A hint from Paige Cardona's tweet - @paigecardona: Patrick Dangerfield might just be the first Melbourne player to win the Brownlow in 14 years... #seewhatididthere #brownlow5 points

People preferring Sloane are nuts. Dangerfield makes players like Sloane's life much easier.5 points

as I have pointed out a number of times, Roos got 3 players imported last year and they all finished top5 in the BnF. My feeling is that he rates that a better strategy for our club then building through the draft5 points

2 and 3 are way overs for Danger. He is a game breaker yes.. but he is 25 years old who isn't exactly got a fully fit body atm. We will be lucky to get 5 years out of him. Either save one pick for a Brayshaw/Petracca Deal with GWS for a Shiel or Trelor. These guys atleast will be 10 year players. If pick 2 and 3 go to Danger I will be very annoyed.5 points

The lead up to trade week is like the week before the GF for Demonlanders. I can see GNF and a few others with good intel waving to the crowd as they circle the Bentleigh Club in a convertible.5 points

HAHAHAHAHA, Sydney's strategy of resting Buddy against the Tigers might have just cost him the Brownlow. Welcome to your new team, Bud!4 points

Geez, was Matt White's goal really that good? :/ Both Kent and JKH had almost identical goals during the year by running half the ground then kicking from the 50m arc.4 points

It is absolutely ridiculous to say that Roos is only concerned about things that will affect the club while he is coach. Roos was brought in to drive culture change and build an environment capable of producing sustained success. That's the whole premise of the succession plan - and Roos was never going to be around for said success. Paying overs for a superstar simply to make himself look better is the antithesis of everything Paul Roos stands for.4 points

"And the winner of the 2014 Brownlow Medal... oh, by the way, Melbourne ain't getting a priority pick.. Joel Selwood!"4 points

To hell with Dangerfield, go after Sloane. Apologise unconditionally to both him and his family for our monumental draft f-up. Sure Dangerfield looks good and has a few monster games a year, but Sloane is way more consistent and wins just as many games off his boot as Dangerfield does.4 points

Overs and unders have to be assessed at the end of the trade period, not one deal in isolation. What did you start with, and what did you end with... I'll trust Roos, Viney, Taylor and Mahoney to deliver us a much improved position.4 points

I have a problem with trading everything for the messiah player. With our luck he does a knee and we have got nothing. We need a number of good players rather than one champion. I would rather go for that.4 points

If Melbourne somehow gave up picks 2, 3 (assuming we get it) and Toumpas/Trengove/Watts for Dangerfield and Mitchell that would be the biggest trading win in years and a miracle.4 points

Surely you jest BD The EFC fall into a group best described by " it is hard to appeal to the better side of someone who does not have one" If they give in to Ryder the landslide will begin.4 points

I think the key is that in AFL, like in many things, you become a product of your environment. What's the point in taking a supremely talented youngster and bringing him into an environment conducive to fear, doubt, submission and underachievement? I think we've seen it year after year, drafting impressive talented young men, then scratching our heads 3 years later when they look a shell of themselves. Obviously this isn't absolute, as you will still get a Nathan Jones coming from a cesspool. But we need an environment where we instill or reinforce work ethic and strong positive work habits. All kids who get drafted have talent. But we need an environment that will take a Luke Parker at pick 40 and forge him into a superstar, not another talented also-ran. We're not there yet. Cross helps, Jones helps, Vince helps, Dawes helps. But we're still short a handful of quality people to lead the way. I do think we recruited Tyson as much for his strength of character as for his talent. We need an environment that will guarantee more hits than misses. Then worry about making sure we recruit the kid at pick 2 who has 3.2% more talent than the kid at pick 10.4 points

I would not give picks 2 & 3 for him (if we get 3 for Frawley), we would need their first round pick back.3 points

The more I hear about this club the more gobsmacked I become. Are they OTFM's? Ryder should walk. Take them to court, tell the truth and sue the FWits3 points

I hope Essendon show some decency when dealing with Ryder. This poor bloke and his family have suffered from this affair and that has been exacerbated by Essendons letigious and combative strategy since Evans was dumped. Wilson was correct a few weeks ago (nearly choked writing that) in that the club has an opportunity now to regain some lost ground and make the moral and decent decision to work with Paddy. Dragging him through the courts does nothing except underline what we all knew from the start, this was never about the players and hopefully these young men and there families will wake from the spell and begin to look after themselves.3 points

What I don't understand is if 34 players admit to being duped by their own team in a systematic and deliberate breech of WADA rules (which it would have to be for the players to have been duped), how can they expect to have a club to come back to after completing their bans? Surely there'd be serious repercussions for the club which would far outweigh player sanctions?3 points

Winning games does this 'McQueen'...you can see how quickly the masses didn't show up to Collingwood games at the end of the season and you can guarantee Adelaide oval would start to empty if Port weren't winning. All the match day experiences and high profile presidents in the world won't draw an extra person if you aren't winning games of footy.3 points

I spoke with Todd Viney about Mitch today, as we ended up sitting two rows apart at the TAC Cup GF. He watched the game with Goodwin. Said that "yeah we want Mitch to stay but it's complicated. Just gotta work through some stuff before he makes his mind up." Make of that what you will, but Todd was not defeatist, and having felt certain Mitch is leaving I said goodbye to Todd surprised that it's not so clear cut as the media makes out. Also congratulated Goodwin, who got out of his chair, initiated a handshake with me and said "thanks for havin me at your club" My club! Man, he is a smooth operator!3 points
