  1. Dean Kent ate him and then took his spot in our best 22.

  2. Garry has just gotten stuck into NicNat on Footy Classified. Brought up his stats for this year to back up his point that NicNat is vastly overrated based on his potential to one day be a game-breaker. Points out that he is averaging only 2 marks and a dozen disposals a game and that the people sining his praises all talk about his amazing impact on the game that no stats are able to show. Basically what a lot of us have been saying for years.

  3. I am very sorry for jack. He's committed himself to us, and done his best in very tough circumstances. He was a victim of a very poor decision to appoint him co-captain, but tried his heart out. I wonder if this injury has taken a long time to declare itself, or be diagnosed. So many people have potted him for his running ability, and it's possible that this injury has slowed him down over the last year or two. Perhaps it's related to the foot injury that required Danks's controversial cream. Meanwhile it must have been distracting having the possibility of an ASADA interrogation hanging over his head for so long.....though I think he's been exonerated officially. I wish him all the best for a complete recovery. He's a very impressive young man.

  4. Not sure if it has been posted already, but someone has made a "fake" Alex Georgiou twitter page where he (whoever is behind it posing as Alex) is developing a bit of a cult status, with tweets not so dissimilar to the Chuck Norris ones. The page is "followed" by Jack Viney and Trenners and often retweeted by other players at the club, so perhaps someone behind the MFC doors is behind it. Anyways, worth a look and a laugh: https://twitter.com/UberAGeorgiou Here are some of my favourites: Uber Alex Georgiou ‏@UberAGeorgiou 22h I've always wondered how someone could eat a dozen oysters. 5. I have been saying it since day one Against us the other day Bruce Tossavaney was saying how important he had been and he'd had about 3 touches in a side that was up 50 to nothing Watts is by far the better player and has copped 100 times the criticism.. even when he does something good there is a comment about how 'maligned' he is , when he performs better than most top 10 draft picks that are running around today... It's absolutely infuriating

  7. If his name was Joe Smith, and he had short back and sides the media would be wondering why he went so high. In his first year I wondered what the fuss was about. Sure he was a wonderful athlete but he didn't read the play. If you kicked it near him he'd do something nice, but mostly he ran around in no mans land waiting for the ball to find him. I watched him carefully last week (because lucky me had to work when we played WCE and this was the first I'd seen of him this season) and nothing had changed. He was always arriving at the contest after it was decided, and unless the ball landed within 10 feet of him he was a spectator. This isn't a one eyed Watts is better post: I'm still undecided on Watts, although I think he's getting better each game. This is more a 'why the hell do people think NicNat is anything but a highlight reel?' post. Next week: Why are Gibbs and Kruz not crucified by the media - they deserve it as much, if not more than Watts. Soft and ordinary, the both of them.

  10. Trengove has Navicular stress fracture in 2012. Trengove has foot pain for x amount of weeks? 1? 2? 4? Scan shows no injury Trengove's pain gets worse and repeat scans show a full blown fracture and needs surgery. Um did they not think the scan might be wrong and that the foot pain might be related? Considering Trengove is in the VFL why not a week off with foot pain and to see if it will settle? If it doesn't settle then it's pretty obvious something is wrong. I'm really getting sick of our doctors, physios and Misson. Bad luck is bad luck but we seem to be brining some on our selves.

  11. Strangely I think its the best thing for him. Can go away and forget about footy for a while and come back fresh and fit with the past well behind him. Great bloke who put in hard for the club.

  13. Agree. While I personally view him as a soft player, his skills are sublime and he will become more valuable as our personnel improves.

  14. picture is worth 1000 words, and a GIF is worth 10,000. Plus it annoys the bejesus out of some people on here, and that gives me a little kick. i'm childish like that.

  15. That is $1.2m per year for 6 years. Agree, we are a soft target and because of that, every failing will get magnified by the press, fairly or unfairly. This bloke is very ordinary and has copped no criticism whatsoever, nor GWS. Imagine if he was still at the Dees, the headlines would scream, "yet another dud draft pick by the Dees". Roos also stood up for us the other day, when we were criticized over Kelly. He said those un named recruiters, criticizing us, have done so anonymously. If he had their names he could look at their record and disect it. He also said we wouldn't have taken Kelly at 2 anyway. I thought that was very interesting. Until we can become competitive we are the soft target.

  16. He is overhyped by the media, not me, and statistically and to my eye, at least, he is performing at a mediocre level, breaking even at best with a superb midfield underneath him. Not saying he is not useful and not saying he won't become a fine ruckman, just that he is overrated versus his output. Would also add Jimmy Toumpas gets a very raw deal in terms of the criticism he receives and the comparisons he is set to, off a small sample size of 15 or so games.

  17. Not just the media. Also the All-Australian team selectors. How he got chosen last year is beyond my comprehension.

  19. Josh Mahoney interviewed on SEN just now, stated that Jack had complained about not being able to 'push/take off' earlier in the year, and scans then showed nothing. Worsened pain after this week and new scan confirmed it. Good luck in recovery Trenners... Also, mentioned that Garland would play Casey seniors this week, and Hogan in 2-3 weeks would play most likely at Casey..

  20. Almost as good as my texting to my Carlton friends at the 28 minute mark of the final quarter ( one can never be too certain of a Melbourne win)

  24. I can't stand this! Every time he takes a mark or lines up for goal the commentators say "how fitting would this be...the much maligned number 1 pick can extend/reduce the margin by putting this one through." FFS! There is no other player in the competition that has their draft number mentioned every time they play, let alone every time they touch the ball. Ridiculous!

  25. Spoke to a guy runs a store around these parts, very staunch Carton fan, always laughing about Melbourne whenever he gets a chance..........he didnt know where to look when I asked him about the game on Sunday morning....he was genuinely hurt and embarrassed and his face was red.... I didnt let him off the hook for at least 10 mins and I intend to keep reminding him about Melbourne for the rest of this year and well into next.

  28. I agree regarding "getting ahead of ourselves". But the joke is about Carlton, not us, and if we were only to beat one team this year I'd have chosen Carlton.

  29. In the last 5 minutes of the game a slow chant of "Melbourne....Melbourne" started echoing around the ground. Now sitting at the top of the Members, the sound from all the Melbourne supports still at the ground was amazing. Watched the replay and you could hear it but the effects mic didn't do it justice. If anyone can upload it onto here that would be great. I haven't heard it before (i'm 35) and loved it. This needs to get louder and louder every week! 2 questions 1) On previous threads here it has been mentioned there was a "chant" during the 87 finals. Was this the same one? 2) Are the fans going to do it again this week? I hope we do when we are up against the Suns with a few mins to go.

  30. Much better than Lisfranc. The only potential complication is avascular necrosis (damage to the blood supply to the navicular, resulting in death of the bone, and end of career) of the navicular. Very unlikely. Ideally, this solves any midfoot power transfer problems JT has been having, which he has been quoting according to Josh Mahoney. I don't like the sound of midfoot weakness without pain, but we'll know if it's uncomplicated after the surgeon goes in on Friday.

  31. Spotlight goes off for the rest of the year. I know it's probably inappropriate as it would not reflect how Jack feels, but I too feel relieved in a way. Best of luck with the recovery Jack.

  33. I had the pleasure of having a long chat to Jack in Darwin 2 years ago. He was very well spoken and forthright - a most impressive young man. He seems very determined and of strong character. I have no doubt he will bounce back.

  34. They should just rub some cream on it. All jokes aside this is terrible news, in a way I hope this explains his recent struggles and that he can make a full recovery for 2015.

  36. Was a big fan of this kid, still have hope for him. Really thought he could potentially be our Paul Chapman type player, but it looks like Kent, who plays a similar role, has exceeded him in all areas and only been on our list for a year. Hmmm, the tough nature of professional AFL football ey.

  37. I saw Riley's highlight package when we recruited him and instantly fell in love ( not that there is anything wrong with that !). He is suicidal hard at the ball with a nice bit of pace to boot. He is my new smoky to be a gun ( my previous smokeys were Newton, Gysberts and Bennell - sorry Aidan)

  38. One of the best official vfl reports I've read if it is from an official source. Descriptive, encouraging, pulls no punches and makes it clear what needs to be improved but also gives credit where it is due.

  39. He was pretty good for Adelaide and I reckon he will do well for us. I fear for JT. I always thought he was a big man in a small man's body. Great in the air but didn't get it at ground level enough. Now he doesn't get it in the air. He was due to sign a new contract after the Geelong game in 2011. As a result of that game his manager suggested he wait but Jack insisted on signing as a show of support for the club. He's been a favourite ever since. I really hope he gets his mojo back.

  41. ... and notice the number of tackles effected by Reilly I think there's always a place for a tackling machine at a team that was once described as "bruise-free". Jack Viney and Jordie McKenzie and Reily will change the landscape in this area if the latter can also get enough of the ball at the higher level.

  42. What I don't get is that it is our hope that under Roos we will become a much more disciplined, structured team. Under Roos we hope to see players who have stagnated ( or gone backwards) for the last 2-4 years improve. Watts will improve, Dunn will improve etc etc. Some on here are not willing to extend the same courtesy to McKenzie. He is super tough, sticks close to his man. His disposal when given an extra few seconds is ok as shown on Saturday. As our team improves, as our stoppage work gets better, as our spread becomes more instinctive - all of these will benefit a player like McKenzie.

  43. Not trying to put blame on Judd, but I agree, and I've always felt he's a bit aloof. My point was that I could never understand those in the media incessantly lauding his leadership - leadership I always felt was lacking.

  44. Here is another one close to our hearts. How come a $1million pa player who struggles to hold his place gets no mention. Imagine if he was still at the Dees!

  45. Brodie Grundy is another - gets talked about like hes the second coming of Simon Madden but is the second worst number 1 ruckman statistically (Champion Data) and the worst per ground time in the compatition and cant take a mark to save his life. Been thrashed by three opponents so far with one draw and was subbed out last game and outplayed by his number 2, Witts.

  46. At least on that we can agree. But you remind me of someone else who always quotes stats to support his view but when they don't he says "I rely on what I see and make my own judgements". It's a great danger because it's usually wrong.

  47. Who says he's a one-trick stopping pony? He averages more possessions/game than Crowley (16.1 v 14.8 (2013), 17.7 v 14.5 (career)). Last time we played GC the possession differential Ablett v Jordie was +3 to Ablett (19 v 16). McKenna squealed like a pig for a week. On Friday night the Cotchin v Macaffer differential was +4 to Cotchin (13 v 9) and everyone included Hardwick and Cotchin sang Macaffer's praises to high heaven. Who would take +3 to Ablett on Sunday? How Demonlanders see Jordie is a very good indicator of the depth of their understanding of the modern game.
