All that said was that Jay Clark has no idea what Sylvia is doing. The rest was just the voices in Clark's head.9 points

I thought Kent had a great year. started slowly but got better as the year went on. Played mainly forward but let remember he was a ball magnet midfielder for the Colts in the WAFL. To play 15 games and kick 10 goals is a great achievement for a first year player. I would even go as far as say that I have him picked before Tapscott Very tough, solid body, break away pace, a booming kick on him and a good mark for his size. I hope he builds a strong endurance base this summer as I see him pushing up to the midfield and making a impact. With his hardness and speed around the ball he reminds me a bit of Luke Shuey. Thoughts?8 points

I think the heart problems would come when we start having close games... For now its probably just liver issues5 points

Hahaha.. "Welcome back Brock. Loved your work on On the Couch."5 points

Others won't, but I'd do that deal. YES, I know he didn't have a good year, but I've seen enough to know he's a very high quality talent and imo will be elite. He's at the perfect age to come in and impact games as well as our midfield. It would be a huge coup in my eyes. One of Taylor Adams or Swallow would be massive.4 points

ha! they've wacked Hogan in there already. No pressure.4 points

Does this mean you can't sign up if you have an arrhythmia?4 points

I will probably get shot down and I don't want to be a wet blanket but I just wish we could actually see Hogan play a bit before making him a poster child for the club. We tend to do this at Melbourne, hype things up too much and get ahead of ourselves.4 points

Best available; Boyd, no argument.4 points

Don't want them? I want every supporter we can muster. Those returning should be welcomed back. It's not like they're riding on the coat tails of success, they just have a reason to believe again.4 points

Please don't compare him to Rivers. Every time Rivers entered the field, he gave his all. Nobody can accuse Col of that. Rivers deserves to play finals, Col hardly deserves to play AFL. A hugely talented yet lazy unaccountable player who has made a living coasting through his career3 points

Frank I haven't played in 12 years and I reckon I could get 20 possessions against us. How has he gone against decent sides?3 points

I agree. I reckon David Swallow really does have the potential to be elite and perhaps even a star. I'm sure we're exploring the possibility of luring him. It makes a lot of sense to me.3 points

For some unknown reason, I really like Col and want him to stay. He is clearly one of those 'cream on top' kind of players where in a good team he would be receiving a lot more of the uncontested pill and jagging a couple more goals. This year he was forced to go in and get it and I thought he was ok at this. He is not a full time midfielder, he is still best on a forward flank and occasionally having a run through the guts. He is not a born leader and never will be. Let's not try make him one like we did to Brad Green. He is not a 30+ possession winner and never will be. He is however a player who opposition coaches look to shut down first each week as they know how dangerous he can be and is in the best 5 players of our club and we need to retain all the quality we can. Must keep3 points

McKenna is a big fan of Frawley? Get in line. I love the rumour mill, dazzler, so keep them coming. I will say though that "set to be traded to Melbourne" is pretty premature, especially if they think Aish will be the prize. If we get pick 1, then that alters things completely, for both parties. We'll get plenty of offers for pick 2.3 points

C'mon Col, the Dees need you.... be a stayer, use your loyalty, & become part of the solution. you can still become famous for doing a lot of good, & be a part of those who turn this ol' Gal around. you know your not the mercinary type. your much loved at Melbourne. be a part of the re-making of this club, & you'll be fondly remembered as a Demon soldier to the core...3 points

I have such a different perspective on both Watts and Sylvia now that Roos is in control. Want both to stay. Partly out of wanting us to develop talent, partly just out of pure curiosity.3 points

Rivers left to play finals - no ones fault and understandable Moloney left because he wanted to be captain and Neeld didnt do enough to retain him (half and half) Gee wiz people will do anything to hang something on Neeld. What next? A bird pooped on my car - Neelds fault Labour lost the election - Neelds fault Lost my wallett - Neelds fault Nice weather today - Neelds fault Bad weather today - Neelds fault Receding hair line - actually is Neelds fault3 points

Liam Jurrah is the only player who has been on an MFC list previously, but is currently not, that I would 'take back'.3 points

I think we all understand that a lot of our issues lie in the dearth of midfield talent. We need to strengthen this area, no doubt. Having said this, I'm bewildered that some of you would take a mid and pass up on a more talented KPF, merely because we need mids. You take best available. We need to fix our midfield, but you find other ways. You take the best kid with the pick you have.3 points

And yesterday, both Carlton and Richmond got away with wearing their dark strips! Carlton had the white shorts, so were presumably the "away" team. Where was their white jumper?? The AFL is a joke...!!3 points

Roos talked about the 3 things that are important in footy: Contested footy, work rate and tackling. Those 3 will have to make big strides in different categories (especially work rate).3 points

I think you have answered the question here. Our great forward talent is a myth, we have a lot of tall forwards but not a lot of talented tall forwards. If Boyd is available to us and he is best available player we take him. Boyd and Hogan looks good to me.3 points

I think I should elaborate on my views on the issue of MFC players qualified and made available to play in the finals for Casey. WJ informed me a few weeks ago that the club was seeking to get a strong list of players qualified for the finals. At the time it was a possibility that the number would be around about 20 including Jesse Hogan but then injuries and retirements struck hard. The master has documented it pretty well above but you can't discount the effect of losing defensive players like Troy Davis, Joel Macdonald (retired) and James Strauss. Hogan was also a major loss because no opposition team really has the players or the capacity to neutralise him.The injuries also affected the club's ability to qualify a few more players and I know there might have been one or two stuff ups but without knowing the full circumstances, it's probably unfair to comment. However, consider this. For most of the season Casey had 12 -15 AFL listers playing on any one given day. Whenever, injury or the circumstance of having to leave one or two aside for emergency duties the number might drop to 10 and then Casey was in trouble as it was earlier in the season against the Box Hill Hawks. Further, whenever Casey had at least two big men in combination i.e. Spencer/Gawn/Fitzpatrick and later Jamar, the team would flourish. Although, Spencer was qualified to play it would appear that he suffered an injury late in the game against the Bulldogs. Without his input in the ruck, Gawn was given a tough task on the day and he was clearly a tired player in the end. I believe that Spencer might have made the difference. Losing Dom Barry to injury late in the piece and not having qualified Cam Pedersen when this could easily have been done didn't help either. On a different note, congratulations to Gippsland Power's Josh Scott who was involved in an historic four way tie for the Morrish Medal last night. Scott played a couple of times for Casey as 23rd player and impressed with his strong, mature play.3 points

I think the 'formula' he is referring to involves his own dislike for the MFC.3 points

Who in their right mind would give up a top 2 pick for "two fringe" players ? It's not a matter of what they may become. You want something more rock solid than "fringe".3 points

Does anyone here remember a 'T-shirt Design' competition held by the MFC about a year ago? Winner was going to have his/her design put into production and also win a range of prizes.. The competition was cancelled for some reason.. And a winner was never announced... My design at the time.. is EXACTLY what the new membership campaign slogan and design is.. but the 'heart' symbol was our red 'M' in the shape of a heart.. I feel partly used and partly impressed that it was something that I sorta came up with it would seem...2 points
-
I believe the opposite. If we do to Hogan what we did to Watts in 2009 that would be a disaster - we swapped 10k at the gate and a few hundred memberships for ruining a kids introduction to AFL. He should never have played, and if it cost us $100k not to play him - so be it. Same with Hogan.2 points

Good to see Jesse being part of the campaign. Perhaps they could have squeezed Roosy in there in the last minute.2 points

I agree with the OP and am going to continue the love fest. I reckon Kent could become our Kieran Jack through the midfield. Like Jack, Kent has pace and an accurate left foot. Like Jack, Kent likes a goal. Like Jack, he's tough. He's a similar size - Kent is 179cm and Jack 178cm. Jack didn't have his break out year until his fourth. He played 2 games in his first and was a regular by his second playing 23 games. But even in his third year he averaged only 14 disposals from his 22 games having averaged 12 in his second. In year 4 he jumped to 20 per game and hasn't looked back. This year he averaged over 25. I reckon Kent can definitely become a regular in the midfield in a couple of years time.2 points

Take the best available player with the first round picks. If that's Boyd then you take him, you don't pass on a potential superstar because we have a lot of players in that position already especially when they're B-grade or perennially injured. Our tall forward set up could theoretically be Boyd FF, Hogan CHF, Dawes/Fitzpatrick 3rd tall, Clark ruck switching with Fitzpatrick/Boyd forward. You could also look at having one (Dawes?) playing back or using them as depth. Yes we need midfielders but you have to take best available with those early picks.2 points
-
If we didn't tale Dawes last year I would have said yes to Boyd.. Buts its midfielders this year.2 points

You couldn't be more wrong. Leadership has nothing to do with previously experiencing success. And that experience were needed, no teams would ever climb the ladder. There's no logic to your post.2 points

As Dermie said to Roos on SEN Friday night, and Roos seemed to agree, it looks like MFC have too many flankers trying to move into the midfield, as opposed to "mids who can go back" to the flank. As said above, Kent is a midfielder. And if guys like Tapscott, Blease, Strauss, etc can't build a decent tank and learn to find the ball often, they might be in a lot of trouble. Well, to be honest, they are already.2 points

I hope this multiple succession plan options is the way we go but that wasn't the impression I got. Happy to read it again though and see if I got it wrong. I would however be very surprised if Peter Jackson has even considered Roos as CEO. He has no business management experience. That is a terrible idea in my opinion.2 points

Of course this year is not definitive it is merely a guide to each players potential and at the moment Ollie is in front and quite substantially. Jimmy may prove to be a very good footballer and I certainly hope he is but he's got a way to go at this stage. I was in the Ollie camp before the draft and was devastated when they didn't take him, but we have to move on, that doesn't mean it's ok with me when Ollie tears them apart and I can only think what might have been. I'll get behind Jimmy because he's ours and just hope that all those on here that think he will be an A or B+ player are right. I'm not saying I always get it right, I was spruiking Tapscott for all he was worth and that hasn't worked out all that well for me, so far.2 points

People told us we couldn't get Roos. Many on 'Land told me to give up on it and that he'd said no. I didn't give up, neither did PJ. This could be the same.2 points

Why are we sullying this with politics? It's a mess across the board, and you can discuss it on the General Board. This is for Footy, and specifically about Roos. A bloke who might actually end up doing something. Another point of difference to anyone in politics...2 points
