Two things amaze me about some of the posts. People think star players would want to come to us and that their clubs would clear them.8 points

So because there's speculation that Roos may be linked to the Brisbane job "he's not that good anyway" and "it was really Lyon and Longmire that should take the credit". Speculation from people not equipped to know. And heresay from expert "Geelong" sources. Classic Demonland.7 points

Geez we are quick to eat our own. At the start of the season most were saying he was one of our most important players. He hasn't been the worst. Dry up you lot7 points

He needs to play high half forward. He has been played deeper second half of year and since then his work rate has significantly diminished as has his impact.6 points

Wait what? i thought he was going to be offered a new deal? Has matty primus ruled himself out yet? haha5 points

Give him a job as a specalist kicking coach. His field kicking has been brilliant over his entire career. something a lot of our current list need a lot of work on.5 points

What about blatant discrimination in the treatment of one club in respect to another. Where does that leave you? A former Carlton premiership player, interviews a former Carlton assistant Coach, hears the allegations and says no case. The Chairman of the AFL is a former Carlton Premiership captain. The assistant Coach repeats the allegations, on the same channel that Brock appeared on and to the same interviewer, is corroborated by the former club leading goal kicker, Fev, in his book and in the papers and nothing happens.4 points

is an interesting stat isn't it?He is the 12th most games played for the club, but of that 12 only 2 debuted pre 1986 (flower and Dixon). He is 3rd in goals, similar in goals and games to one of the greats, G Lyon, but most of us would say Lyon was restricted by injury. Of the top 9 goal kickers, I'd suggest he was the only full time career forward (apart from fanning who kicked 400 in 100 games, and norm Smith) who didn't move around the park. He battled strongly as a key forward in the 90s when he should have been the third tall which possibly restricted hos output at times. I think the biggest problem is he is remembered for not chasing, for not keeping his feet and not doing the team things at times, particularly towards the end of his career, rather than kicking goals. In Robbos case he was a great player but to be recognised as a champion of the club, he need to do those things as well to be a true champion of the club. edit: spelling4 points

On what are you basing your opinion on? I have always got a good impression from Davey. Modest, speaks very highly of team mates and when alot of people wrote him off combined with a lazy culture at the club he was one of the few this year that got back into shape and improved. We know absolutely nothing about the situation really, that's the whole point, might find out it's all sorted and we're waiting for more appropriate times to make announcements.3 points

What I hate about the Brown one is that it's rated as medium impact. A boot to the face should not be regarded as medium impact - due to the possible consequences it should be rated as high impact immediately IMO, especially when the broken nose is considered!3 points

I not sure why people are thinking that this announcement represents a loss of Roos. We certainly never had him. And if Brisbane were not going to resign Voss, don't you think they might have had exploratory discussions with prospective candidates? And as Freo showed 2 years ago, there may well be other Clubs flying below the radar exploring opportunities that we don't know.l It's naive to think we are the only ones looking. And heaven knows Essendon should be in need of a new coach too. Essendon's future will be clearer once the penalties are agreed and announced.3 points

Jesus. Did not see that coming. Looked like he was finally turning it around. Don't think they would be doing this unless they had someone like Roos lined up.3 points

At risk of being Ben-Huresque, you are boring me, and the people whose opinion I care about can see who is clearly creating strawmen in this thread and who isn't. It's not up to me to defend myself against your accusations, it's up to you to prove them. I'm not going to bother engaging with you any further.3 points

I'd rather we draft dayle garlett than even look twice at Yarren to be honest couple of young blokes we have on our list who did alright in the VFL also, Blease and Barry3 points

While some of what you say may be correct, there is also the issue that many posters have no idea where to direct their "anger" and simply lash out indiscriminately and often do so with little or no facts. There are always players who become the favourite whipping boys, and then it's the coach, the assistant coaches, the board, the president, the CEO, the trumpeter etc etc ... while it may not be the case in this thread, the main problem is that while one person might make a valid criticism, many will then take that as a cue to jump in boots and all and it often becomes personal - mob mentality. Perhaps demonoid has just had enough of that... and I would have to say I feel much the same. This is not directed at you Soidee, but I really dislike this "pea hearted supporters" expression... if anything, that probably applies more to the keyboard warriors who continually rubbish and snipe at the players and the club in anonymity from the safety of their homes/offices.3 points

Jon Ralph in the sun today quotes Libba and Fev saying " yes we tanked" and giving examples. Brock never actually said we tanked. That was enough to start the ball rolling again. This is stronger language and far more concise and definite. You can absolutely guarantee, from the Fitzpatrick led Commission, that nothing will happen. If they say this was investigated, that is pathetic as we were investigated the year before the inquiry and they still did us over a year later on Brock's hint at tanking. One rule for the powerful and protected and another for the weak.3 points

Out of contract at the end of the year and unfortunately has just done his knee. 185 cm mid/HF who has had an outstanding year in the WAFL but just couldn't crack into the the Freo midfield due to how well they're travelling. Young Victorian boy, I reckon we should have a crack. There are a few clips on youtube from the WAFL and I saw his debut game against the Cats a while ago. He's a goer with better skills than most I've named below. I'd certainly have him on the list ahead of Bail, Nicho, Magner, Couch, Rodan and Byrnes. I reckon he's a good target.2 points

I just don't think Swallow is worth more than that. In fact I'd say pick 2 is paying overs given he's not really setting the world on fire up there. Maybe a straight swap for Watts would work instead then we could still use pick 2 on Sloan.2 points
-
If we gave up Watts and pick 2 for Swallow we would be pretty much just be giving them pick 2 for free. Watts hasn't set the world on fire but neither has Swallow. Watts is a key position player and Swallow has spent most of the year playing half back. NO THANKS!2 points

Melbourne won't give up Watts and Fitz for sure. They probably won't hand over either imho. Yarran and Gibbs are worth something, but Carlton's predicament is that they are trading smalls. Unless elite, you get a second round pick at best. You go after a tall from another team, you pay overs. Big time! It's surprising nobody has picked this up. But, the draft picks are way too prized in most people's eyes. Think of how long it took to develop Fitz and Watts's strength, fitness and size to be competitive at AFL level. 4 years. You want to start again with a promising kid from the draft? Both Watts and Fitz have their best footy in front of them, not behind them. The same can't be said about Yarran and Gibbs. I'd argue both are going backwards because they rely on pace. Carlton, keep Yarran and Gibbs. We'll hang onto our draft picks and tall's and we'll see you on the ground next year with the most dangerous forward line in the league... (Dawes, Clark, Hogan, Watts, Fitzy back up). We'll see how much blood your mosquito forward line can spill.2 points

I'll be frank about Essendon, they cheated and have been caught. I just hope they are severely punished. AOD9604 is a small synthetic peptide that mimics the active site of the Human Growth Hormone (HGH) - Yes the same hormone Stallone used to bulk up for his Rambo 6 film (HGH that is). The active site is the region of the protein (hormone) that binds to its corresponding receptor and activates an internal proteomic signaling cascade. Downstream of this activation (via the IGF1 and IGF2 intermediate proteins, also hormones) promotes an increase in skeletal mass, muscular mass and lipolysis (fat burning). Generally speaking the media have hyped the term peptide as a bad thing, they are not. Proteins are comprise of peptides that are made up of amino acids. There are more than 60 thousand proteins within our bodies with various functions. It just depends what these synthetic peptides have been designed to mimic (e.g. HGH is and was naturally essential for our physical development as we've aged). If he just stays in the forward line, a good defender can block his run at the footy. Further upfield he can get more space and use his aerial dominance to greater effect sometimes. It's about adding more strings to your bow and improving as a player, not limiting yourself. Howe can take a speccy, but will never be a high volume goalkicker. Brett Burton should be what he aims to become.2 points

Sorry to butt in again. My canary has told me Roos may be the man. Tweet tweet! Outstanding issues are support team issues and sundry freebies from the AFL. This time I feel a little timid because I really want peace with my brother/sisters supporters. I will qualify these comments with an acceptance of the full metal pillory if I am wrong.2 points

And also say things like we should offer Fyfe a big contract. Do people really think these types of players will come to us. The only way out of this mess is clever recruiting. That means taking guys like Greenwood, Miles, Sewell, Cross who are out of favour or fringe at other clubs but would walk into our midfield. The chances of us getting an A grade mid is very slim at the moment.2 points

They at least will do the nasty stuff required to 'grow" and develop. And some here want to pick up their 'has beens" Some need to think these things through. If some of these players arent good enough to get them across the line why on earth should we look to get them..!! Just so they can fail to get US across the line too ??2 points

Positives: - IMO we were at least even in terms of the better of the play. We dominated the last quarter and were better in the third quarter, and won the first. The midfield did their job relatively well this week, something I don't thing I've said all year. - Viney, what can be said that hasn't been said already? Kids a gun and is being asked to do a job usually expected of a 21+ year old, and he's doing a sterling job. Should get his we deserved NAB rising star nod this week, a disgrace if he doesn't. - Fitzy, played a lone hand up forward and managed to take some excellent marks in difficult conditions. Missed that easy shot at the end, but a blemish on an otherwise good performance. - Jordie and his job on Ablett, yes he had help but he was excellent and should be acknowledged by all this who criticise him. Don't worry I'm not asking you to eat humbe pie or anything, but definitely should be recognised for doing one of the best jobs on GA that anyone has done all year. - Jonesy, he's just Jonesy and always should be in the positives. Looked like a train wreck and dived into every contest wanting more. Negatives - This was a winnable game BIG TIME. We had it all in front of us and needed to take it, but didn't. When we needed to be clean we gifted them possession. When we needed goals we kicked behinds. And when we needed to take the game on and go all in, we slowly worked it on the boundary line and persisted with Watts as loose man in the defence. If these were instructions from Craig then there is no way in hell he should be coach next year. The suns were also down on rotations, how about we take advantage of that?! As I said in the gameday thread, suns didn't win this we lost it. - Kicking for goal. 10.17 is a poor effort and indicative of how bad we are. There were some basic shots that Casey players would be [censored] at missing, do your bloody job when the team needs you. I'm looking at Byrnes who should be dropped for his misses, he does his job and we win the game. - Trengove, I keep waiting for the old Trenners to break through but it doesn't seem to happen, another underwhelming game from him. I really want him to be the player we thought he would be! Overall a much better effort, but I'm sick of paying my membership for effort.2 points
