  1. So instead of working on the kid's weaknesses and develop him (lack of muscle and stamina) we get rid of a two time 21 yo rising star nominee, and get Rodan and/or Ray. I'm not thrilled. I hope this does not come back to bite us in 2-3 years.

  2. I'm not jumping off the walls with excitement about his one, but he's a Demon now, let's support him. Welcome to the club, good luck in the Red and Blue.

  5. Right - enough of the fun and games. Background: I went to the TAB to collect my Saturday winnings and watch the Geelong Cup. On the way back I walked past Cale on the phone. After crossing the road I decided to take a quick pic and put it on Twitter speculating why he was in Subi. Of course lots of people took interest and it snowballed. Now, a few things. - yes it's Cale. Sorry I didn't take the zoom lens to the TAB. I'd like to think I've around Melbourne forums long enough to be trusted. I don't bullsh.t - the MFC twitter crew thought it would be a good social experiment to see how far this would go. We haven't been let down. The 2 threads on Big Footy are, interesting, though I don't like being called a troll. - finally Demon Forever - mate on holiday hey champ? You [censored]

  6. My god there will be a lot of nervous Melbourne players who are out of contract right now. If a bloke who is 29 with banged up knees is needed then you know neeld isn't happy with the list.

  7. I am getting really sick of people having such a one-eyed attitude to our players. Ray was a bounce of a ball away from a Premiership player, he played extremely well in a GF, has played in 3 GF total, he also played well for all 22 matches in a team that was undefeated for 3/4 of a season. He is also 26, in his prime, with at least 4 more years of service to go along with his good experience. Gysberts, although suffering from injury, has done nothing even close to any of those things and struggled to show anything against GC this year (who won how many games?) in the worst midfield in the league. Also those that say Gysberts has 3 years of development but excuse his poor performances on injuries are surely contradicting themselves, if his injuries have prevented him playing well surely that has hindered his development? Gysberts for Ray may suit you or not, but the rumour is not hateful, in my view that would be fair and Ray offers a lot more of what we need than Gys at this stage......

  13. With all due respect Ralph I'm very frustrated by this attitude that we paid "over market value" for Dawes. The Bulldogs offered what was then Pick 21 and a swap of later picks, we offered pick 20 and a swap of later picks, we literally offered one pick over our competition! That competition determines the market value, Dawes' value was determined by the competition we had for him, Brisbane offered a similar amount, the Bulldogs offered one pick less, this is the value, two years ago we couldn't get Dawes for pick 12! Market value fluctuates, if you want to assign an absolute value for every player that is your perogative and your opinion. Market value is what others are willing to pay for him, which we must beat to get his services. Also, I really want Ray, I think Pedersen is important if we trade Martin, otherwise he is neither here nor there. Ray would be a great get to rotate through the midfield off half back, the exact type of player we want, with an attitude that is great and who has played in a well-drilled successful side under one of the best current coaches. If we get him I will be very happy.

  14. Does anyone else want to see Morton have an uninterrupted run at a Misson preseason? He is just 22.

  15. I'm sure this must have been posted before: The Puzzling Case of Cale Morton I really am surprised at the apathy - joy even - that I am seeing in this thread. There is no question after his first 2 years he looked like a real goer, when he had 40 out of a possible 44 games to his name. Everyone seems to have forgotten he racked up 97 disposals in 3 weeks in the middle of 2009, and rounded out year with a very healthy average of 23 per game, in a side that got back-to-back spoons. He also showed aptitude as a player inside 50 at both ends of the ground. He then copped a big injury in a praccy match at the start of '10. As mentioned in the article, he has hard a hard set of circumstances so far in his career - what is not mentioned is that he has also had a number of injury problems. The guy is still only 22, that is nothing - there are 15 others between 21 and 23 on the list, by my count at least half of them have done less damage on-field than Cale has. We are trying to develop a unit and his a pick#4 with 5 years experience, he should be persevered with. It would be very poor of us to let him go now, not yet.

  16. I really hope Gys doesn't go for Pederson, would be an unfair deal for us. I know a lot of people won't agree with this but I reckon it isn't entirely unreasonable to think that Jack Fitzpatrick could fill the role that we are trying to get Pederson for in 2013. At 200cm and 93kg (start of this year) he has shown that he is adept at playing deep forward as well as in the ruck for Casey. Although he still has a bit of growing to do the fact that we will have Clark and Dawes there to ensure that he gets the 3rd/4th defender means he shouldn't be totally out of his depth. Anyway I think it's definitely not beyond him next year.

  17. I find you one of the more consistently non-sensical posters I've come across. No mean feat. We clearly want Pedersen and just as clearly we currently don't rate Gysberts, who managed the grand total of one game in the AFL this year, while managing 14 games for Casey. Yet you want us to play "hardball" ? Gysberts original first round selection is no longer relevant. What is relevant is his form. And his form reads, "Slow inside mid who runs out of breath crossing the road. Makes good decisions and can accumulate, but average to poor disposal and makes Cale Morton look like Arnie. The penny may drop and there's potential upside. Former first round draft pick, who was a surprise selection at the time. Current draft value 40-55 range." That's what the bio might/should say. It won't say what you'd like it to say, it just deals in facts. But by all means feel personally aggrieved.

  21. It's not all Black or White, some people aren't over the moonwalk about this, but he could be Dangerous and kick the winning goal in a Thriller. I know these puns are Bad, but I just can't stop til I get enough. Also Pederson's nickname is short for paedophile.

  24. What is with peoples obsession with Pederson or Ray? They aren't even fringe players, they are worse then that. no way would I part with a pick 28 or 33 for either of them. At best I would part with pick 28 for the pair. We draft Howe with a pick in the early 30's. TMac with a pick around 40. Would anyone trade those 2 for Ray and Pederson as I sure in hell wouldn't. Lets just use the draft picks and maybe draft a Dean Towers and some small forward instead.

  25. Problem is there that he is already on a modified program until xmas, so a full pre season is out of the question. The thing with Cale is that he is really a well liked, popular memeber of the team, bit of a leader amongst the young blokes, it should not be lost that he has some character, a constant whipping boy of the club, but not once have you seen or heard anything negative from him. I for one kind of hoped that he got the oppurtunity to prove alot of people wrong. SOrt of a soft spot for him.

  26. So now it's supposedly Mitch Brown (the WCE variety) for Cale Morton and I see an astounding pattern emerging my dear Watson. In the space of 24 hours we've been associated with Rodan, Prismall and now ... Brown. Every one of them has in the past been afflicted by anterior cruciate ligament reconstructions. Mark my words dear Watson. This Neeld character and his plans are more diabolical than anything the evil Professor Moriarty could ever have dreamt up. It's elementary. The man is attempting to construct a bionic football team!!!

  30. Fair enough but I'm not rating Gysberts on 2012. Partly for the reasons that Fence mentioned & partly because I suspect he's found it all pretty easy throughout his career & this was the first time he's really had the acid put on him. Some kids need more than one kick up the arse before the penny drops. We need a lot from our midfield but clearances are king in footy at the moment. Farren Ray won't help in that department. He can run himself ragged but if no-one's getting the ball out, he might as well be in the stands with us.

  33. My other team (Sheffield Wednesday) have a supporters forum that is far more rowdy than here. One of the funniest things the posters over there pulled off was creating a false rumour that Terry Henfleet was in transfer talks with the Owls. Both Sheffield newspapers published articles making reference to the fictious player and a club official was even quoted as saying no-one would be ruled out when asked whether the club were interested in said players. Henfleet shirts are still commonplace at Hillsborough. It's the in-joke that returns every transfer period. Nice work Chook.

  37. This is no over correction. We have already secured Viney, Barry and Hogan. We will use pick 4 on another 17/18 year old and at least one more. Thats 4 kids coming into the club. We have lost two oldies - Maloney and Rivers and brought two in - Rodan and Byrnes. We have also brought in mid aged with Dawes and may still get Pederson. We will be losing several of similar age when the dust settles with the long list yet to get contacts. I feel the club is doing very well with this. We lose some players that haven't made the mark and bring in guys with proven attitudes. Our depth should be very good next year. Great competetion for spots. The key now is development of our younger players (WE MUST GET THIS RIGHT!!!) and keeping the injury list short.

  41. I'm with DavidNeitz9 on this, in a roundabout way. I'd readily swap Martin for Pederson. But if we had pick 33 instead of Martin, I'd rather keep it than trade it to North for Pederson. Sure, I think Pedro would be handy, but not at that opportunity cost. It's not like he'll put us over the edge to compete for a flag. Do the deal with Brisbane for Martin, sign contracts, but hold off on lodging the paperwork until the Pederson deal is done. Gysberts for Pederson I can live with, because although I'd like to persevere with Gys, it would indicate what opinion the footy dept has of him, and they're in a much better position to judge. Psychoanalysis & medical testing, etc would play a big part in this decision, I believe.

  43. Im going to back Neeld and the FD. If they want a specific person to fill a particular role. Thats fine by me. After all theyve been planning these raids and delistings all year. They just might have a better clue than most of us. Happily put myself in the 'us' Theyve done the research.

  44. I'd take all those picks but wouldn't use 28 on pedo. I can handle 33 for Martin then passed on for ray. North are dreaming if they want 28 for a vfl player. The same could be said of us wanting 33 for Martin.

  45. I'm a fan and believe Cale can turn his form around. He's just a guy who's confidence is shot. Probably doesn't help his own supporters yelling abuse over the fence. Funny i see the same people cheering when he does something impressive.

  46. I must be one of the few that would be disappointed to see Morton go. Morton would be a very good player in a good side so I am hoping that he will click as Melb starts moving back up the ladder

  47. After 4 wins last year, 3 of which were against development junior sides and another against a side that took their bye week early, I would think Neeld would want to get the number of wins up next year regardless of whatever other KPIs he wishes to also use. But those KPIs are going to be hollow achievements if they are not reflected in wins on the board in 2012. Given the heavy recruitment of experienced players over the summer and the discard of a number of perennial NQRs, MFC supporters would have every right to ignore KPI achievements if we turn in another shocker like 2012.

  48. If we play GWS, Dogs, GC and PA twice and only win 7 games then likely the season will be a shambles. i've had 5 years of KPI's, Competitive quarters, and other measurements. In that time I've watched the club lose deliberately, squander draft picks on ping pong players, fail to develop barely any of the talent, lose by 186 points thanks to a player revolt, watched a good bloke in Dean Bailey being undermined by his own employers, seen The Footy Show host called in again to try and fix the problem. On top of all this the club puts the team in pink jumpers, school boy blazers, fancy logos, continues to shuffle incompetent employees around to cover their mistakes and spins more corporate crap than I can handle, all the while wanting my money. They can stick it all up their asswholes. Let's stop the excuses and demand 11 wins. With the draw we're going to get its not that hard. 7 my ass Note: I believed the hype, not again.
