  1. Let it be known that today, the 24th day of September in this the 2012th year of our lord, the Curse of the Red Fox was lifted from the Melbourne Football Club!* *Well we hope so anyway.

  2. Caps off a fantastic year. Considering the team won a total of 4 games I thought this was an incredible effort. It was obvious he would top the polling for us, but 14 was more votes than I thought. Well done Jonesy.

  3. mark Neeld should take the entire playing list to Norm on the first day of preseason. Lay down the standards that must be kept.

  4. I concur with that 100% Goodvibes. Only Collingwood and Carlton can get away with draft tampering these days.

  5. Nice to see Craig coming out to bat. Kicking that idiot LLoyd back to the gutter with his smarmy "up himself" commentary tucked securely up his rectum where it belongs.

  6. I don't disagree with this. Some people rant and rave about how we drafted 'schoolboy nice kids', and cite Watts and Cook. I think the bigger issue is that they came to a club with no leadership and without senior players who put their head over the ball week in, week out, and deliver consistent football, setting examples.

  8. Correction: Brynne Edelsten's dress is seriously the second worst thing I have ever seen!!! Her head wins the worst thing I have ever seen by a country punt.

  11. I've had a bad cold for a couple of days and was out of it for most of the day today. Then I tuned into Foxtel's Red Carpet programme and I was doing well until I saw Brynne Edelsten. Dead set. I'm having a relapse!

  14. Hawthorn were our biggest nightmare in the 80s - can't stand them! This is what I want to see happen. 1. Franklin kicks 1.7 and 3 out of bounds on the full. 2. He limits staring at himself on the big screen to 32 times max. 3. Clarko gets fined for putting holes in the wall and punching up a computer. 4. Cyril tries to chase down Jetta and does a hammy. 5. Kennedy wins the medal for BOG. 6. LRT kicks four.

  17. Great. We give up the player we took at 11, who everyone agrees has talent and is still young, for a 25 year old VFL player who can't get into North's side and wasn't even good enough to be drafted as an 18 year old. What do we put as Sellar's value, given he played most of the games this year, is taller and was quite handy for us in a number of positions. To me Pederson is about pick 50, similar to Sellar who went at 54 despite being a top 10 pick as a junior. Gysberts would have to be somewhere between 15 and 30 given he is contracted and has tons of upside.

  19. Nathan Jones Brownlow vote: 14. Total Melbourne votes: 27. Jones is 52% of our whole team - yeah that sounds about right.

  20. Having seen all but a few interstate games this year I can honestly say that I have never seen a single player carry the load like NJhas had to this year. The gap between him and the rest of our side in Browlow voting is a more accurate reflection of what I saw on field than we got at the Bluey. Granted, a different voting system but he has been head & shoulders above the rest.

  24. http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/7415/newsid/148411/default.aspx Craig says that we are too focussed on facilities for a competitive edge when it is personnel that is important as the facilities become elite across all clubs.

  25. I got Norms Smiths autograph in 1957 or 58! He really didn't want to sign,- "No you don't want mine, I'm not one of the players." I was an 8 year old footy mad Dees fan and said, "I know who you are and I'd like your autograph please!" He kinda looked around hoping no players were looking.

  26. I remember that awful, unbelievable day so well. "I am Melbourne"! So like Don McLean's "The Day the Music Died" just a few years earlier - gutted empty feeling. But, as many have said here, hopefully the inner Demons are now exorcised and we can return to the winning, dominating days. Back Neeld - he has a steely resolve. Get on board, or get off......no passengers allowed.

  31. Midfield super draft Melbourne which has the worst midfield in competition takes no non F/S midfielders first round. Some of these people who write phantom drafts are a joke. If we don't take any mids besides Viney we would need to fold right then and there.

  32. Ultimately the club will decide whether he's worth pick 3. If they do, you'll have your answer. His weakness is kicking for goal, but last weekend he kicked 4 goals straight in a preliminary final. Also, his field kicking is good. So if a player's field kicking is good I'm confident they'll be able to work out a couple of technical issues when it comes to goal kicking. I wouldn't worry that he hasn't played against men, The men are thankful. I've read varying reports that he's 193 or 194cm and 93 or 97 kilos. Either way it doesn't really matter, as he'll run out in round 1, 2014 as a big agile aggressive unit approaching 100kg and ready to go. Jack Darling is 19 and just kicked 50 goals. Jeremy Cameron is 18 and just kicked 30 in the worst team in the AFL. Hogan will be 19 and ready to go. If he's a star CHF at 21 you won't give a rat's toss bag that he didn't play in 2013.

  34. I think his is a simplistic view of "The Hawks Philosophy" and would argue that most if not all of these players came to the club as pretty good contested ball winners ith hard at it attitudes. I mean the 3 he mentions from other clubs were all good kicks yes but all hard at it ball winners. This is not something that you just teach, a player must have a strong competitive streak.

  38. That's great news. It's a lasting tribute to a seminal figure in Aussie rules, no worries about that. A champion of the game along with brother Len. (And Peter who I saw play numerous times in the 2's). What sticks in my craw is it's called the 'Australia Post Avenue of Legends'. Until the next sponsor arrives Here's a radical idea. How about the 'Avenue of Legends'.

  42. He has done some ugly things since his career has ended but I still think he could be of some use to Fitzy and Watts on a limited basis. There is no way I would support making him a part of the coaching panel until he proves to be off drugs. There are so many crims involved in footy that it is impossible to stop him mixing with whoever he choses. 1 hour a week with the kids could definately help us . We could use a few of his tricks and advice on marking ,leading, space creation etc.

  43. . I have my doubts about Jack, but no doubts about his intelligence and I dont think he'd respond to a guy who reckoned his after game party trick was to break a scotch tumbler on his head,no matter how good a footballer he used to be. It reads like the bloke cant do anything useful with himself so he wants to go back to his glory days. Wouldnt have him around the place in a million seasons unless he goes back to the Roos and works wonders with them first. Maybe he could go into Real Estate with Dennis Pagan or get a job as muscle for any of his crim mates who are still alive

  45. Lots of things have contributed to the MFC's failures since 1964. Norm Smith. Loss of disciplines & rested on the laurels. Other clubs started to pay more money. Other clubs started using the MCG as home ground. Other clubs grew bigger than us with they're hard won successes & finances. Lack of professionalism. Players leaving or declining our invitations. Nowhere for decades for supporters to mix & mingle after games & training. Dropping members & attendances. Loss of finances. Debt.
