  1. I get his point about us not blooding new talent going back to the familiar Dunn, Bate etc. but unfortunately for Greg he hasn't done his homework again. We recruited 4 players onto our senior list for this year, all but one, Taggert who is on the long term injury list. Clark and Sellar have been regulars, Tynan played the first game but has struggled with injury from then on. Of all the players on our senior list only Cook, Davis and Taggert (injured) have not played a senior game so his point about us not playing debutants does not hold water, we don't really have many left to play. I would like to see Cook get a game but the club want him to earn it, fair enough. He went on about Gysberts not getting a game but seriously he missed most of the pre season, did his ankle early in the season for Casey came back and broke his jaw within seconds of that comeback and is only just getting some match fitness. I want to see him in the senior team too but Denham needs to look at why he isn't, not just make unfounded statements. We rookied 4 players 2 will have played senior football by the weekend and the other 2 Williams and Sheahan are project players. We have recruited 4 players onto the main list and 4 onto the rookie list, 5 of the 8 have played, one is on the long term injury list and 2 are project players. At the end of the day though we are easy targets and Denham likes to take cheap shots, it's the same bloke who said Carlton wouldn't get within 12 goals of Collingwood last week. Carlton and Ratten were down so he took another cheap shot.

  2. Whilst we're on the topic of SEN- absolutely LOVE Finey! He is passionate, witty, very funny, intelligent and takes crap from nobody. Great host and love his show on my late night drives

  3. He really paid for that early attack, Cadel. The problem is that he is a very similar type of rider to Wiggins, but he's not time trialling as well as him. Evans is a better climber, but he's not a dynamic rider. He's used to covering moves in a similar way to what Wiggins does, and then beating them on the time trial. He's not really an attacking climber that can break Wiggins on the climb with bursts of acceleration. Unfortunately he's been forced to ride in a different style because of Wiggins' superior time trialling Wiggins is being Cadel, and Cadel is trying to be Schleck ...... but not a very good Schleck. More like Dean Waugh, rather than Steve or Mark.

  5. Moloney was B&F in 2011, then as he has had a down period, the answer is "Delisted". Get a grip. Moloney is hard at the footy, physically mature (which is much more than others), and has the skills and smarts to be a key midfielder going forward. Kicks the ball 50+. Wake up. Davey, Green, Bennell, Bate, Spencer, Petterd, Jetta & a few others would have to go first.

  6. Brent Moloney Has got the most out of himself in his AFL footy career and quite possibly most out of his life at this point as a professional sportsman, I might also add he is a genuine Bloke who takes time to talk to the common man, something some players find very difficult! A life long demon supporter He could be described as very much "Old School" Must have really, really cut to the bone with his demotion from leadership But a born leader no less Great leaders when appointed, step up to the mark, some spectacularly like Beamer has done in the past. A few indescretions see him ostensibly consigned to the "Damaged Goods" bin Very unfortunate...... Very!! A Best and Fairest winner at Melbourne... Impressive!! Now on the basis of a less than spectacular season under a new coach and some want to write him off??? Nup We need blokes like Brent Moloney and I'll give you a Tip.. Norm Smith would have loved him Enough for me Keep at all costs!

  7. Never been a huge Maloney fan until the auskick clinic on Wednesday. Was having a kick with my boy, he's 6, about 20 mins after the clinic. After I pin pointed a pass onto my boys chest was surprised to see Brent lay a bear hugging tackle on the little guy. Lifted him off his feet. Both had ear to ear grins as Brent walked away. I suspect my sons smile lasted the longer of the two, however Maloney looked happy, and seemed to appreciate my sons love of the red and blue. Got me thinking, just possibly, he's a good person. 2011 b & f, poor year so far, but perhaps deserves more time to impress the coach than some of his team mates. Hope he finds some form soon

  8. He has a history of gutless sniper acts. How he won his second brownlow beggars belief, insufficient force!!! A protected species. The pressure points incident was not only gutless but openly admitted and clearly intentional, this act is no different. He has intentionally set out to hurt a helpless opponent. It's a shame such a great footballer also happens to be a cheap, gutless sniper.

  12. Guys this is my list of players etc. Please feel free to add comment or tell me I am wrong. I am going to send this to KB at SEN. May ring in next Thursday. We have 39 players on our main list we have played 32 so far this year the seven players without a game are below. Gawn - out for the season before season started (knee) Gysberts - injury in pre season so interrupted start then a broken jaw. Jetta - out very early in season with bad ankle injury. First game this week. Taggert - long term back injury probably will not play this year. Strauss - one of the worst broken legs seen in AFL amazing he is back playing with Casey now. Cook - injured hip and operation September last year interrupted pre season and only started playing with Casey in round?? Rookies Nicholson - Played 6 Games Evans - First week back after back injury in 2011 kept him out till first game this week at Casey. Lawrence- series of injuries and form have kept him at Casey. Couch - played 1 game. Magner - 13 games. Jai Sheahan - series of injuries have restricted him to a few games at Casey. Williams - showed some early season form then serious Illness, 4 days in a coma keep him out for 4 weeks. Nett Result - we have in total 46 players, we have played 37 - 80.4% of the list. All players who have not played have either been out with season long injuries, or a serious injury. Of the players on our list who have not played a senior game, there is not one that has not had a serious injury. PS I will refine this a bit before I send it. What are your thoughts?

  13. I'm a cynical person when it comes to the noises football players and their manager's make. It would be hard to argue this cynicism isn't justified. And I'm a bit over people making excuses for highly paid footballers who don't produce on game day for the Melbourne Footy Club. We must demand better than this.

  18. assuming we finish 3rd last and assuming the regular pundits don't have jt in top 5 we tell gws and gcs publicly that if they bid for jt we won't offer our pick 3 they would not risk bidding for jt in those circumstances i also suspect the afl would make some statements publicly and otherwise to dissuade gws and gcs from being funny buggars no need to do any deals and this would further enhance our likely support from afl

  19. Billy, the guy played under 10 games last year, like Couch was often in the Casey bests, the played 2 or three games for Melbourne and was close to our leading possessions for those games. Evans is more than a runner he can play, hopefully he can stay fit for the balance of the year and remind us all how good he is.

  24. Maybe you could give us your highly valued thoughts on where the team is going wrong and, back on topic, whether or not Brent Moloney will be with us next year? Shallow sweeping statements do not equate passion.

  25. Looks like Brent's been dropped . Another thread required for that , no doubt . "Moloney dropped ! Could be the end " . On his recall "Moloney back in ! It's not over yet"

  27. ANOTHER Beamer bashing thread... Bravo guys, gutsy... Funny how so many other players who are struggling get all the excuses in the book, but 'Land's favourite whipping boy (when Morton's not playing) gets a new thread every few days. Weak effort guys, and I hope the mods shut this thread down like they do for other players.

  28. Just so we're all on record. Do you consider Trengove to be a poor top 5 selection ? I'm happy to say that I don't and have great confidence he'll end up an A grade midfielder despite his inglorious 2012.

  29. Dumping our captains after one season sends a great message to the playing group... not!! Particularly so close on the heels of the dumping of J McD and Brad Green. In my opinion, and speaking as a Nathan Jones fan, I think that regardless of his qualifications, replacing the current captains would be entirely counter productive and what little morale there is in the playing group would be lost.

  30. All things considered I really feel for the guy. I can still remember watching, mesmerised , his debut against Richmond. He was amazing. He all but invented the defensive forward idea ( in a way ) he just didnt allow anyone to get away or do anything.. He was a real pain in the arse for any opposition defender. . He is one of the few I really rate as a kick at Melbourne. But his speed is way off, his kicking is very measured now. In fact he plays a very measured game now and I cant help but feel that its not his natural way and he must get terribly frustrated at not being able to play his naturual game. This injury doesnt bode well for Aaron. I really wish him the best of luck but you also have to at some point make those horrible decisions. Do I , dont I. Whats actually better in the long run etc. Id hate to see the lad go elsewhere and would prefer he finds/is found a role that can take advantage of his footy proesse and his seemingly natural talents at nurturing and mentoring his kinded brothers etc. it might well be 5 mins to midnight

  32. Since Round 1 hey? Maybe if you talked sense I'd believe you had some... You really think people here don't bash players for no reason? Come on mate, you've been around here long enough to know better than that. And as for classifying you, I don't understand what you're getting at? But if you rate someone with unfulfilled potential higher than someone who has got the most out of his abilities (and won a BnF to boot) then you can join the queue for the 2015 Grand Final we're apparently going to automatically be in... I'm not going to change my mind about sticking up for our passionate, hard working, currently struggling, reigning Bluey winner, and if you guys want to keep starting thread after thread slagging him off while wondering why we're such a disenfranchised club then I'll keep banging my head on the wall.

  33. GWS or GCFC would have to see him as a first or second pick. Why would they want to pick Viney otherwise? To screw over the third worst team in the comp?

  34. FFS this VFL scheduling is shambolic!

  35. OK - I will take the bait, and the hook if you like.Geez....the VFL need to get their act together, and either add one or drop one team as of next year. So many byes is absolute rubbish. They are a joke as a back-up to a professional AFL competition in their current setup. PS: Really great to see Williams back on his feet and playing a few games.

  38. Teams out and WATTS out injured. Moloney dropped. Davey out Season. We must be tanking and it pisses me off. Im a member and dont go to the footy to watch my team tank. Im sick of telling my kids we will be alright. Melbourne just be honest with us members.

  39. And this is the perfect season for it to happen. From here, the number of wins is cosmetic. If they need to be rested, operated on or retrained then now is the perfect time. Finishing bottom three won't be 'tanking' but the result of what happened this year. Get well soon, Flash, and refind your magic.

  42. An article on the MFC site confirms it. http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/7415/newsid/141248/default.aspx Can we not get fined for this? I thought we weren't allowed to announce inclusions/exclusions prior to 6:25pm.

  44. Neitz and Robbo were exciting forwards but I wouldn't label either as an "elite goal kicker". I'd reserve that term for Tony Lockett, Peter Hudson and many others. I still recall Darren Jarman kicking them from everywhere one day at the MCG. Think he may have kicked 9 straight.

  45. This year has been our Annus Horribilis. Everything that could go has gone wrong, and yet we are still standing. The chances of having another year like this in terms of just plain bad luck have to be slim. I don't want quick fixes anymore. I don't want to have to keep plastering over the cracks every couple of years. Be patient and lets start getting the foundations of this club right. Despite what many on these forums think we have never really addressed our deficiencies with any real intent. Yes from time to time we have tried to rebuild our list but never the entire club from the ground up. For the club to attain any semblance of sustained success this rebuild is critical.
