Players with best disposal

CHAMP

Recommended Posts

Over at Big Footy there's a thread entitled "Player with the best disposal on your side". I trawled through 4 pages and 57 posts and there was not a single Melbourne post. If you think about it this is fair enough. With Trav off to Brissy there really isn't a stand-out any more. Yze and Green historically might have got a guernsey but not these days. It's a sad indictment really. Seems most clubs can raise arguments for two or three but in our case any nomination would be fanciful. Maybe a couple of the new blokes will make a name for themself.

You make a good point CHAMP. There really isn't anyone that stands out, and that included TJ when he was there. For mine, the player with the best execution and decision making when it comes to disposal is Jared Rivers. He may have an awkward kicking style, but it's effective. Next would be Brock McLean, and in his short career, Ricky Petterd.

McLean, Davey and Sylvia strike me as players with clean disposal.

Brad Green still showed glimpes of his lethal left foot with beautiful set shot goal on the HFF flank V Geelong. I still hold hope that Green will return to his best this year.

Adem Yze was awesome in the early 2000's on the wing. How many goals did he set up from the members wing at the G'

I have a funny feeling we could be singing Addam Maric's praises in the future. Doesn't he hold the record for the most accurate shots for goal in the TAC Cup?

Perhaps it is time to introduce the tennis ball drills that Jared did as a youngster in SA to bring his kicking up to scratch.

Wheatley. There's hardly a better kick in the league now Buckley has retired.

We've plenty who can kick - McLean is under-rated, Dunn has skill, Sylvia's OK, CJ and PJ are both good kicks, Bell is very good. Davey can kick. Morton and Maric are meant to be sensational kicks. I think we're on the positive side in the kicking skills area.

I think Yze, Green and White are over-rated and Bruce is truly horrible.

Simple, we dont have one... Brad Green maybe at his best, he weights the bakll nicely.. Tj was it, but he did turn it over alot.. it's easier to name who is not...

Exactly, we'd rank quite well on the scale of "most butchers" (even with Godders and Ward off the list).

We're looking for someone who can hit a team-mate on the chest from 35 off one step (and he's gone).

I'm assuming you're talking about TJ. His kick off one step annoyed the crap out of me. It's effectiveness was overrated. Looked great when it hit a target. Put his poor teammate under pressure when it didn't.

Agreed. He could just as easily hit his teammate's opponent. Hit and miss but more miss was creeping into his game.

Whelan very good, Davey excellent, Mclean very good, White good Sylvia very good.

We are not that bad by foot you know.

confidence is a wonderful thing.

richmond are considered one of the worst but if watched that infamous game last year when they beat us, their foot skills were the best I had seen all year, bar maybe Geelong.

My votes with Wheatley too. Penetrating and usually to his team mate's advantage.

It'll be interesting where Wheatley fits in with DB team and if he's in the best DB 22, it might help explain why he went to China.

I really hope he has a great year.

Ok. This one will surprise some but then we'll all go, 'oh, yeah, of course...'

Matthew Whelan!

Consistently 80% plus disposal efficiency, which places him in Champion Data's elite category - but the important part is that he does this while almost continuously under pressure given his usual role of close checking in defence.

Priceless, underrated player. He's James McDonald rebuilt for back-pocket / small defender. Can't wait to have him back. Fingers crossed.

Brad Green is probably our safest user. TJ had the potential to be sublime but last year was terrible.

TJ could be both damaging to his opposition and to his team, his type of game ensured that. It's high risk, low, and penetrating. If he saw a chance in the centre and he had a 10cm target to hit he'd go for it, often of one step. Best disposal, but potentially damaging.

But TJ has moved on and so should we, therefor my nominations would be Whelan and McLean. I've rarely seen these two turn it over by foot.

Johnstone's disposal was hugely overrated. The notion that he was the best kick in the team lead him to be designated the kicking in duties in which I can count dozens of occassions where he turned it over trying to be TOO precise and sometimes costing us goals. Forward of the centre he had the potential to be damaging but once again, he didn't do it often enough. Lazy player.

The best kick in the team for mine is easily Davey, without having seen the new kids play I can't see any other regular in the 22 that has the ability of Davey to hit targets.

Just going on Point Kick outs, which in conjunction with kicking for goal, is the best method to work out who has best disposal;

I would say Yze then Davey then Neitz then Green.

If you look at our kicking out disasters Whelan and Wheatley were so bad, that often TJ had to amble from the centre to kick out.

I reckon if Wheatley kicked long to the wings, he would have been a much better option but most of his (bad) kicks come from going short to the pocket.

He is more accurate kicking longer distances than short in my opinion. he has a talent that is rarely used but highly rated by supporters.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
