Sampi has arrived, is sharing digs with the Flash and started training yesterday - DEES LOOK AT SAMPI

"Sampi, discarded by the Eagles, has been given no guarantees of a berth on the Demons' list.

However if he sheds weight and can hold up to the rigours of a personalised program, Sampi is sure to spark interest from not only the Demons.

Richmond and Carlton will get a crack before Melbourne if the talented forward slips through to the pre-season draft."

we might pick him up late in national draft because toygs or cheats might get him before us in pre-season

if he was to come and get his body right, he would be a good player.... Hard to keep him and Davey both quiet in a firing team....

Bite me Deanox. I didnt say it was relevant. I thought we wanted a younger list so we bid farewell to TJ say hello to draft picks. Not a hello to someone like Sampi

i don't want to bite you, i might catch something. we farewelled TJ for pick 14 in the national draft. that pick will get us one of the best youngsters in the land, hopefully a KPP. ashley sampi is young (i think someone mentioned he is 23?), and has skills and potential. maybe he is not as classy as TJ, but he is about 5 years younger and plays a role which is much needed in our side. we havnt guaranteed we are going to pick him up yet, and wont get him unless he shows something. also we wont be wasting the pick we got for TJ on him, we will either be getting him in the PSD, where we have picks or we could get him late round in the national draft if we think he is worth it.

whatever thought processes you went through to draw a line between the TJ trade and drafting sampi, i'm not sure. the only connection i can see is that we said we had an under 23 policy and this fits that policy perfectly.

you're reasoning is unbelievable and completely illogical.

Oh come on, you can definitely feel the sexual tension in the air ;)

*runs to take cover*

Just reading about him in the Herald Sun today conjures up memories of the Byronator over the past 12 months. Overweight, unfit, finished the session with a knee injury. He has a lot of work to do in the next month because we can't afford to waste pick 3 in the PSD on someone who's not up to scratch.

Nahh,

He's running the Tan in sub 12 min and leaping small buildings in a single bound.

The Dee's have just told him to keep it on the low down for another couple of weeks!

I don't think we have to use the PSD pick, depending on how things pan out we could take late him in the coming draft.

If he can show over the next 2 weeks the commitment that is required we should use either pick 51 or 64 to get him, that will mean we have gotten two past first round draft picks for really nothing and both at the right ages Sampi at 23 and Meesen at 21. We get 3 good kids with pick 4, 14, 21 and Sampi with another kid late. If we wait until the pre-season Draft we will be trumpt by Richmond or Carlton. If we do we draft as mentioned we will have 25 players on our list that will be at the end of this year 23 years old or under and that isn't taking into account the 4-5 rookies that we will get.

I think it's 4 rookies isn't it?

Hayes, Neaves and Huges delisted, and Bode promoted, with Ooze and Neita on the veterans list... that means 4 newies...

Having said that they could re-rookie one or two of those guys. Maybe Neaves.

That sounds very, very good all up. Obviously it's still a big question mark on Sampi but if he looks like the real thing, hoo haa it's fun times at Melbourne FC Junior Squad!

Ahhh... there's that sneaking feeling that things could go very right for Melbourne pretty soon.

we just got Meesen and we dont need another ruckman

Yes we do. White is nearing the end. Jamar is not top level. Meesen is untried. Johnson is not a natural ruckman. We will draft another ruckman whether in the main draft or as a rookie.

You could be right, but I think we have 6 spots left on our list and I'm unsure if we can have another rookie if we only select 5 players for our senior list.

Sure we do.

Neither Meesen, PJ, or Jamar have cemented themselves as a second ruck, let alone as capable of taking the first ruck mantle from White, who is nearing the end of his AFL career.

I'd be rookie-ing at least one young ruck.

We do seem to share the same view, but I certainly didn't copy what Redleg posted. Perhaps I didn't see his reply, as if I had, I imagine I would quote Redleg's response and follow on from that, or not post at all.

I'm 'on the record' with a few similar-sounding replies on this topic - in example, this post one month ago, which is quite similar to the views Redleg and I have expressed in this thread:

This topic has been done to death recently. Anyhow...

White doesn't have too much longer left. Neither PJ, Jamar, or Meesen has even cemented a #2 ruck spot, let alone show they're capable of taking over as first ruck. If anything, we don't have enough rucks. I'd certainly be rookie listing a young ruckman.

Perhaps Redleg pretty much just copied what I wrote then? ;)

NB: I'm certainly not impying that Redleg copied what I posted a month ago, just making the point that it's not rare to find similar opinions expressed by more than one author..!

Veteran Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin returned to the training track to bring you the following observations from Gosch's Paddock this morning. Beautiful morning for training. The dew has dried, out from AAMI, quiet chatting. Maysie does his heart symbol. 7 in rehab, Turner, Hore, Sestan, BBB, Petty, Spargo and Schache. All in runners. Melky weighted and change of angles work. Salem has his individual program. White cap (no contact), Howes, Woewodin and Sparrow

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th
