Said that they believe the deal is

# Travis Johnstone to Sydney for Pick 11

# Rivers to Adelaide for Van Berlo

# Van Berlo, Pick 4 and Pick 11 to West Coast

# Judd to melbourne.

That's what they believe.

If that happens I will rain death upon the football club.

And by death I mean an insignificant torrent of abuse.

Don't see that happening cause WCE would just cut the middle man. They'll prefer Rivers then Van Berlo.

Van Berlo's a good player who'll lift a cog next year but good smart defenders are invaluable.

As much as i like van berlo, i would much rather rivers, although meeson as well as VB does make me think a little more, we would then keep chip.

According to that trade, we lose Van Berlo to WC. All we end up with is Judd. WC get 2 picks (one from us and one from Adelaide) and Van Berlo, Adelaide get Rivers, we get Judd.

We have to give away Johnstone, Rivers and Pick 4?

Stupid to the extreme. Losing Rivers would crush our already deplorable backline.

Really?? If we want Judd we need to give something. It seems to either be a Rivers or Frawley exchange somewhere down the line. Rivers is the biggest loss but you are adding the best midfielder in the comp, while losing an exellent potential AA backman. Even with this Surely Chip can step up with some experience under his belt and fill the void. Without Judd we still have a lazy midfield with 2 excellent prospects in Jonesy and Brock who desperately need a role model. Our backline has been deplorable but taking into consideration the neglect our midfield has shown in defending and the absence of, imo, the best small back in the comp in whelan for the year, adding Judd for Johnstone, Rivers and a pick package might not be the defensive armageddon you envisage.

Rivers to Adelaide for Van Berlo!!!

Oh no, looks like we're going to be the ones held over a barrel. What a shonk this is. I would expect a lot more from Adelaide for our nab rising star winner. I'm just going to reserve judgement on everything until any deal(s) are done and dusted.

I'm sorry, the RISING STAR WINNER and ABSOLUTELY REQUIRED CHB Jared Rivers for whatsisname van ok player?

That's so stupid it's just not credible. I'd puke a fountain, even if we did get Judd.

Why would WC want van berlo so much?

Trapper to Sydney for 11 isn't so bad, though.

Bah, this is all getting stupid. I'm gonna go watch some footy, I hear there's a game on today?

A ) Whelan and Frawley are very different players to Rivers (Whelans a small defender, Frawley a prospective KPP, while Rivers is a smart zoning defender). We dont have anyone capable of filling the gap left by Rivers. The issue isnt just that he's an excellent backman, its also the fact that we dont have any other players in his mold.

B ) Whelan has been injury prone for the last two seasons and might well be on his last legs- I hope he can stay fit next year and regain some form, but even if he does, as a best case scenario he only has two or three good years left in him. Frawley has the opposite problem- realistically it'll probably be another two or three years before we see him at his best.

I'd be concerned if this is true. We'd have a phenomenal midfield, but probably a disasterous backline, and we couldnt even begin to try and address it until the 2008 draft.

Nobodies untouchable, but Rivers is literally the last player I would want to see traded.

You say that Rivers is a smart zoning defender, yes that's true, at this stage of his development, but he is easily our brightest prospect of becoming a KPP. He's the same height as both Scarlett and Harley (192cm) and only 3kg lighter than both of these premiership KPP's.

My money is that if Rivers is playing for MFC next year, he's our first choice CHB/FB starting from game 1 of the preseason cup.

I'd really be loathe to lose Rivers after losing Scott Thompson to the Crows.

You're probably right- I think he's just about invaluable in his current role, but I'd obviously be thrilled (but not surprised) if he eventually developes into a quality CHB, especially considering we really have no other options. I was more just saying that neither Frawley, Whelan or anyone else on our list could remotely take over Rivers' current role in the team if he's part of a Judd trade. To lose him would have a devastating effect on an already shaky defense.

It sounds like you basically agree anyway, but I just figured I'd clarify that Im not trying to sell Rivers short by saying he's "only" a zoning defender.

First things first and let's get Judd's nod that he wants to come to us. If that happens then I'd leave it to the football department to make the right decisions but I'd be surprised if Rivers was a part of any swap. Get him fit and back in top form and he could be our defensive quarterback. In his absence, we're very light on for key defenders that, as we saw today, are so integral if you want your team to be successful.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
