Your personal indulgences following a win

Featured Replies

The air is always fresher, the sun brighter and the mood more enjoyable as I smugly walk into the office this morning wearing my demons scarf in a team filled with Blues supporters.

Last night, on my third glass of Nanny Goat Pinot Noir, grinning like a Cheshire cat, I found myself getting into my old habit of lurking on the losing teams fan forums and just feeding off the sweet tears of there pain. The usual comments:

  • Sack the coach

  • The list is shocking

  • The fitness guys have no idea

  • Our stars wouldn't even get a game at another club

  • I'm done with this club and this is the absolute last straw

I came to the conclusion that I'm rather a sick person enjoying the pain rather than focusing on our positives and probably need to shake that habit.... but is always just so delicious and sweet against the Blues/Pies/Bombers for me.

So I just thought I'd ask - what to other demonlanders do post a win? Are there any little traditions or quirks you'd like to share?

All of this is unhealthy...

...except in the case of Carlton, in which case it's sensible, mature and, at the risk of sounding hyperbolic, good for humanity.

My advice is to continue.

I like to watch the replay 10-20 times.

Although this time around, I’ve just watched the 2nd half only. I believe the replay count is currently on five and rising.

After a loss I don’t watch a single minute of any of the footy shows, I don’t read a word about footy. I pretend it never happened.

After a win I lap that sch!tt up. I read, watch and talk about nothing else.

As a friend of mine said after our Saints win, “I’m gonna watch 360, Midweek Tackle, Agenda Setters, First Crack, On The Couch, Under The Couch, Behind The Couch, On The Fridge, Under The Bed… the lot of ‘em!” 🤣

Yesterday i walked home behind a group of Carlton fans and listened to their meltdowns, they were walking slower than I usually do but I didn't want to overtake them cos I was enjoying it.

The morning coffee at my local cafe certainly tastes better after a win.

I used to go to The Tippler on Wellington Parade with a mate after a game but it only appears to be open for about 3 hours a week these days.

I absolutely hate people who think it's OK to flick through mindless videos on their phone without earbuds on public transport. Except for the guy in red & blue re-watching that last quarter on his mobile phone at full volume surrounded by Blues supporters on my Sunbury line train home last night ❤️

You should go to the Blue Abroad YT channel and watch their fan cams 🤣

First off text the kids, had two daughters, son in law and grandson at the G yesterday in the MCC curtesy S-I-L, texts were flowing thick and fast from 20 minute mark of 3rd quarter. Then watch all the after game stuff, then replay (2nd half only), check AFL game day stats, then Demonland, joeboy’s three word summary (thought it had been written at half time Lol.!!) then the Player Votes, then back to Coaches post game interviews and player interviews, then back to the last 15 minutes of the last quarter the crowd was so loud. Total bliss. ❤️💙😁👍💕

Ps( I had a listen to Blues radio with Andy Maher, Kouter and Ang, fast forwarded to the start of our comeback, priceless).😬

On a similar theme to you I went down the rabbit hole of Carlton fan YouTube channel reactions. All the nuffies around me left too quickly while I was basking in the glory at the G for me to soak in their reactions in realtime at the ground so it was cathartic for me to lap up in their "sack the lot of them" emotions after the fact.

I do most of the above, followed by a forensic on Melbourne v Carlton ie did it make me feel any better about Ron Barassi playing in a Carlton guernsey, was it better than the '94 elimination final, did it bury the humiliation of recent finals losses t0 Carlton, and last, but not least, did it make me feel better about being robbed by Carlton in the 1962 first semi.

Good to see you don't hold grudges.

Also spending too long on the forum the next business day.

@joeboy Sleeping on Couch

I generally text anyone who barracks for the team who just lost to us, and rub it in.

When we lose, they’ll always message me too, but Ill pretend I didn’t receive their messages due to poor reception…

I also will enjoy my wine and cheese platter more after a win (naturally). 🍷 🧀

Watched Vossy's presser (there's nothing quite like seeing Carlton in agony), and soaked up and the Club and general media - then a diet-busting Magnum icecream - delicious!!!!

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.
