Collingwood, so called “100k member powerhouses” got just over 40k against GWS on a Friday Night in a 50k seat stadium and the Dogs got 28k against the same opposition at home.

Really hope our fans turn up and push 35k+ and put the fake narrative that we don’t attract crowds to bed. Would also stick it up Judas in the process while he plays in front of 8k crowds.

I’m optimistic it could happen, because against St Kilda, the crowd was 40k but I could have sworn only 6-8k Saints fans turned up.

Easter Sunday will keep more than a few away, I reckon itll be 25k.

definitely felt like 40k bluebaggers at the ground last week, and about 10k aints in rd 1

I could see that happening, but i suspect Laurie might come in.

What we really need is our medium utilities (HF, HB. mid, wing etc) kicking more goals.

We've seen some improvement in this space with Langdon, Chin, Sharpy, Culley and Langford last week all bobbing up for goals this season. Kolt is perfect for that role as he won't have to be asked twice to have got and goal and he is excellent, accurate kick

I do hope Fritts plays after last week's effort. Although have Milkshake in for a very close match up is good, he hasn't played for a long time . Having to cover both of them would be very hard.

Milkshakes strength of two men and accuracy from the boundaries and Frittas' Exocet left foot missile ( sorry for the outdated military metaphor there,) are truly defenders nightmares.

Last weeks third reminded of our premiership. Especially Fritta.

Re...What we really need is our medium utilities (HF, HB. mid, wing etc) kicking more goals.

Yes definitely. You somewhat answered your own musings. And what if Sparrow plays like that again? The Sparrow we've been waiting so long for despite gifted so many games. The CP5 mk 2.

Laurie's a tough call. Never shown much but hasn't had a great many opportunities.

If Jvr puts on something close to his opening game, Fritts and Milkshake play along with our new talls, it will really test Gcs' backline. While ours bolsted by Turner and Lever back to form, will be fine.

So I'm fairly confident. Or as Albo would say.... I'm optimistic . And if our medium utilities impact the scoreboard as mentioned, it could be quite a day out. I'm not sure why after last week's 43 point turn around has us at 3.45 and the opposition at 1.25. Sure the blues did it again v the roos but they are great odds at our home ground.

With Tracca out, the centre clearances should be fine. I think Kozzie is only just starting to come into his own and he will truly impress us more so in games to come. And Max is traveling as well as ever. Can't wait for this.

Fritsch officially out

Laurie in.

Check out this article! http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/1987260

Thanks for the update but bummer.

He was in top notch form with some scintillating ball gathering and scoring.

And I can't remember Laurie tearing a game up. Surely someone else .

Really happy that Laurie is getting a game.

He was solid in our preseason matches.

Get behind the guy, he never really got a chance being supersub most games he played.

He is a smart accumulator, clever and accurate with his disposal.

He will thrive with a little confidence.

Bummer. We needed all hands on deck against GC.

Right…I had solid mail that Fritta was out for 6 weeks, broken foot bone. Now he isn’t named as an out, I’m totally baffled. Is it a stiff up by the comma team. Is my mail bad? Seems like a really odd situation

Happy to get around him, again, but he has had plenty of chances. Not sure what you mean he never got a chance. Sadly, like many before him, he is very good at VFL level, but struggles to produce at the top level. He is too small as a mid and seems limited in terms of foot skills under pressure. Goes well at Casey in front of 300 ppl, but his poor disposal shows up on the big stage. If he can overcome that, he has attributes

On ability he could grab the spot of someone like Sharp

The athletic profile or lack thereof is what hurts him

Not to mention Sharp is thriving currently. Laurie's going to have to play the games of his life to grab a spot. Rivers, Fritsch, Bowey, Viney, Kentfield all to come in at some stage.

WTF HENDERSON named as emergency???? He has been injured and has next to Zero form!! Is a VFA Reserves player only!

Tough opposition tomorrow. I hope for his sake Bill can make an impression because he doesn't look best 23

To a lot neither did Kolt, Howes or Sharp.

Change of coach, game style and some continuity can make a big difference. Hoping he doesn't die wondering, works hard both ways and trusts his skills.

Hearing Fritsch might be out

don’t shoot the messenger

How could anyone have an opinion on Laurie the AFL footballer either way? In five years he’s never really been given a real chance at it. One game, that’s right, one game, where he got 70% game time and 19 touches back in 2024. Dropped the next week. There were two other games with his game time % in the 60s. In the rest of his games he's either been the sub or been subbed.

I mean, he’s probably not quite up to it, but let’s give him a chance, finally! He could be another Sharp.

Excited to see Laurie play

Give it everything son!!

Hard to fathom the point of naming Fritter - he was never going to play. Not sure who they are trying to fool.

Now that he is officially an out, it’s easy to say he was never gonna play. But right up until the announcement people did think he might’ve been a chance to play.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
