POSTGAME: Rd 01 vs St. Kilda

Featured Replies

The whole day was a vibe, outside entertainment was great, every one was up and about, last time frankie the mog made me feel like that was the 23 finals. All recruits played fantastic, kolt was fantastic running with nas aswell as getting treatment behind the ball, umpiring was terrible, hopefully the goal umpire at the cheer squad end takes a minute to really take a look at himself and his life choices. Fast footy, and a game plan that didnt stop no matter the score, well done Dees.

The concern that the Saints (with a game under their belts) might run over us, didn't come to fruition

In fact, we ran the game out well and we were clearly the better side on the day

We need to defend the corridor better but the whole game plan is a work in progress with this new way of playing

20 marks in the forward line was a standout feature along with 9 goals from our 2 key forwards. Suddenly, our forward line is no longer dysfunctional

The use of Sharp off the bench was a masterstroke as was the tagging of Nas by Kolt

Well done coach King, you had a real good day

King-ball!

Beat Freo next week and watch it increase.

We should go over to our Premiership Ground and be right up for the challenge

The Coach has instilled a new belief and Gameplan over a few months

Proper and REAL Learnings….

Atmosphere around and between cheerlead all the way to mcc was electric especially in the big moments. Love when dees get vocal in the crowd. I must say I almost had a tear to my eye with just how proud it was to win that game. New game plan, new coach, new staff, new players but same massive love for our team. LFG Dees ❤️💙

Max playing 90% seem to work ok 😛

Turns out Max likes high game time, who knew? But also he didn’t have to bail out the backline on every inside D50 and more importantly didn’t have to be the long down the line for every forward attack

We only had one player over 20 disposals (Windsor). That's efficiency given the scoreline.

Windsor

Kolt

Sharp

Roo

Culley

All showed improvement on last year, some great signs. Sharp great in contest and Windsors kicking much better.

A great day at the G!

Great win really proud of the boys. Our talls were sublime may that continue.

I had one eye on the game for the first half and then watched intently for the second.

Felt like (via tv) there was enthusiasm and confidence around the group that’s been gone for many years.

Lack of panic in the last quarter and lots of smiles on players faces, that was a win without the actual ‘W’

@Ghostwriter

Welfare check on Ghosty, you alright? Didn't accidentally bite through a Red Bull in the final quarter? All okay?

I for one had a good time watching that game. Like, vintage good time. A good time in a way I haven't since before the darkness.

It was a game that deserved a Dennis Cometti commentary.

Not sure what I expected today.

Junior Demon was trying to convince himself that we'd lose and he just wanted a good contest (so if we did lose he wouldn't forefit his "composure").

Watching Latrelle's goal enacted in front of us was worth price of admission/membership; it was like watching a replay as it felt like we all knew how it would end!

Great to see the Max love here... there was just something about his demeanour (deemeanour?) in the 4th that said he would see us over the line.

Since I've been bemoaning the experts and their round 0 pronouncements, I am going out on a limb to say we're "a work in progress" with a lot of cobwebs to deal with in the next week or four.

If I have to stand for an hour on an over-loaded train (with another hour to go before we get home) I'm willing to pay that price for a darn good day at the footy.

How good was it to not see our midfield be so sloppy and messy around the contests.

No long bombs, no throwing the footy on the boots so quickly with zero awareness and no sloppy miss handballs to a teammates feet.

We're work in progress, but our willingness to drive our legs and carry the ball was so good to watch.

Mihocek is going to be huge for us

No way JVR kicks 6 today without him. JVR is no longer double teamed and can take the second defender. His game sense and maturity will help Roo turn into a star

My word, the Pies missed him this weekend too. McStay is bog average

Those 3 goals for the pies and they win. Suffer pies. In the second quarter after a goal the saint defenders where push or small players around. Brodie step in and pushed one guy away and grabbed a second by the front of his jumper and said something while 6 inches from his face. I would luv to know what he said.

One of my favourite parts of the game was also one of the most boring.

When Culley could have had a shot on goal from 50m out with 3 mins to go and I was getting ready to go nuts if he kicked it but in hindsight if he missed they get the ball and have a small glimmer of hope. He goes back and passes it, icing the clock and completely shutting the door.

Looks like we are starting to become well drilled

No complete ‘passengers’ today. Max was outstanding, as he frequently is, and Roo is starting to realise the potential that we all know he has. But the two ‘surprise packets’ for me were Sharpie and Kolt. Both disciplined and influential.

Loved the game, loved the win!

When did we last kick 18 goals in a game?

Round 21 last year although that was against the eagles

The last time we kicked 18 goals the coach was sacked!

Kingy better leave his phone on silent this weekend

Max, Steele and Salem all had 20+

How lucky are we to have had Max Gawn play for us for his career?

Treasure him whilst he lasts <3

What a great start to the week ahead.
Got a pep in me step.
Life is good.

I can remember saying we should have done exactly that against GWS game 1 last year and copping some blowback that you always back yourself for the shot etc. We were 3 points up and AJ had taken a contested 40m out on an angle with 2 minutes on the clock. AJ took the shot and missed and GWS ran the ball down the other end for a goal. I didnt blame AJ I blamed our system. So great to see that tactic today.

Very impressed with JVR’s laser guided boot today. Every goal dead straight and two from outside 50 as well. That was almost Darren Bennet like.

A perfect autumn day. From the beef cheek & ale pie and pale ales at the North Fitzroy Arms to the near empty Metro train home from Town Hall station. And Maxy! Every game day should be this good.

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: “Is Melbourne even at the ground?” Moments later, as Carlton’s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demons’ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.
