Only 26 years of age.

In today's game, he could easily smash out a good 7-8 year career for the Dees.

For comparison, we picked up Hibberd at the exact same age and he ended with a 7 year career/100 games at the Dees with a sloppy rig 🐷

Unlike Hibbo the moment CJ loses a step of pace he probably won't have much of a future, but 3-5 years seems about right.

Frosty left us at 26 and gave the Hawks 5 years of decent footy, 4 of which they were rubbish and 1 they were good, after which he barely played this year then got chopped.

If CJ can help absorb some of the loses and we can rebuild in 4 or less down years that will be a great result.

I can't say this overly excites me.

While many on Demonland liked Sam Frost I thought he was hopeless. Hopefully, this bloke isn't as bad with his ball use.

In a Dees mates Whats App group I'm in people are sharing what their Hawthorn mates are saying.

  • Big Tease. Looks Elite. Shocking Decision Maker and Really bad under pressure.

  • Great at getting the ball, no idea what to do with it once he has it.

  • Always injured.

Don't shoot the messenger just passing on observations from opposition supporters.

I got 'bad decision maker' in my chat.

I like his speed and athleticism. He just needs to stay fit.

Has the draft pick going to Hawthorn been decided?

I'm happy to have CJ at the club, a little of the heart palpitations will be healthy for a few of us sick of the 20 metre kicks across the ground that go nowhere. And he's at a decent age as well. Think the positives outweigh the negatives.

❤️💙 THANK YOU CJ ❤️💙

Thank you for choosing the Mighty Dees!

Big hugs comin’ your way at preseason. Incoming! Brace yourself! On a wing and a prayer…

I know I called it CJ-Ball (like Frost-Ball) earlier but I still like this assuming it's a pick post 28 (which i suspect). Has good size and serious dash and adds to the age bracket we lack in. Hibbo was not a good kick bit attacked every contest like his life dependant on it, tucked the ball and drove it forward with distance not precision in mind. With Rivers likely spending more mid time and the guy that wore 4 departing there is a spot there for the taking.

Feedback seems to say he is.

It's imperative we improve our kicking.

Do we have a skills coach now?

Crazy to think that everyone is worried about his ball use but tend to forget we had Trac and Clarry shanking it for years HAHAHA

Watched him in the finals.. seemed interesting without damaging.

Further than that know nothing more than I'll struggle with name.

Is he a McVee replacement ? Same size🤷‍♂️

Does look more animated though 🤔🤣

Welcome C.J.

Yes, it is a bit rich.

Also, the desire to get a player who is established and quick AND IS A GREAT DECISION MAKER AND BALL USER. They wouldn’t be for trade for a middling pick! Barge! Flimshaw!

You're joking. Hibberd was an excellent kick.

I know it was probably unlikely with Clarry and Trac on the outer (?) , but hopefully we don't see Caleb at half-back again. So i am all for re-enforcing this position

Didn't see this coming

Once you are wearing red and blue, im 100% all in on you, welcome CJ!!

Perhaps a return to frosty's chaos ball circa 2018??

Exciting news! A dashing halfback in the right age bracket with agility and pace, that love's the occasional spoil. What's not to like about it? Hopefully we get it done with a later pick.

The CJ acquisition is interesting as it is one of the first real ‘King’ moves that might tell us a bit about what we’re trying to do. CJ is an agent of chaos that runs hard, creates space and thinks about what to do with it later. It’s the sort of early tenure trade a new coach can make because you absolutely know that he’s going to encourage the style of play that you want, even if he isn’t perfect.

I like the move because it can be so hard to break the habit of the old team, so having someone come out to create that sort of chaos with a coach’s license can be the sort of thing that makes it feel ok for established players to do something different. Given the conservative habits we’ve built over a long, successful period under Goodwin, it can be real hard to abandon those habits.

Whatever the case, King-ball looks like it is going to be a much looser and chaotic style than the Goodwin wall.

Why are you talking about Frost and CJ like they are the same player?

Thanks... interesting read.

Looking for to 26 just to see what happens... whatever lol

Kicking efficiency compared to Rivers and Windsor for those who were dissatisfied with the previous post 🙄

Better than frost for sure, people saying he is a bad kick are over blowing it, he’s an average kick in the same way most of our team are.
