Which might have some more validity if he was bringing in a host of genuine A graders.

He's maxing out their cap with BOG average, at best, B graders.

Dimma Hardwick is going down the same path

A real vendetta against the letter M from Bobo, there. Worse than my 'Sams only' drafting and recruiting strategy for 2025-2030.

Gawn will stay on until at least the 2028 premiership.

Somewhere between the reassuring earnestness of James McDonald and the indomitable will of Nathan Jones. That's a relationship with fans that takes a decade to build and now St Kilda's success or failure relies entirely on the performance of imports on inflated contracts, and Wanganeen-Milera fulfilling his apparent destiny as the vorpal blade incarnate.

Meanwhile, Jackson Macrae, brought in by St Kilda just one season ago as a 31yr old slowing but dependable midfielder, must think the world has gone mad.

My anti-M bigotry has been exposed. Almost threw up when I saw the Mitch Marsh thread.

McVee felt it. McAdam's hiding from it. Hopefully the Smith/Guerra/King/Rivers/etc/etc broom deals with it and Moniz-Wakefield and Mentha survive unscathed.

Any 'M' still around at picks 7 and 8 might be nervous...

I did laugh when Richo alluded to Jack being great for the kids and then Jack was like ‘yeah, but I am more keen to get my body right and play you [censored]’

Paraphrasing…

Yeah they were definitely able to keep it all pretty quiet when they were really pushing him out.

Ross does appear at least superficially to be a my way or the highway sort of guy.

Not that a coach should be everyone’s best mate, but he appears to be cold and aloof.

Ross’s comments about footy being messy, contracts being messy, trade period being messy (paraphrasing), as an excuse to trade out Steele was extremely poor, watch him implode the saints again and move into a coaching director role somewhere when it gets all too hard, he should be one of the most under pressure coaches going into 2026

Not to cold-water your overall point, BD, but I read his 'messy' list as being about the Leek Aleer (not)backflip?

This is from the St Kilda cheer squad to ours…

I’ll admit I thought this was a strange call

But i’m thinking this could be an excellent trade. Got a quality mid and leader for nothing. He polled 46 brownlow votes over 2 years so clearly has talent along with his grunt

Love Langford and co learning off Steele and Viney rather than Clarry or Trac

You might be writing Max off prematurely, especially as he has a contract for the next 2 seasons.

👍

Hopefully the new young Max, can take a load of the real Max, and captain Max can play for 2 plus years!

Apologies I couldn’t resist and Maximise his longevity!

Ross’ press conferences are pretty damn messy actually.

He always sounds like he’s just had 4 pints on an empty stomach.

Had a chat with a colleague at work who is a member of the St Kilda cheer squad, bleeds red white and black and is almost as dedicated as @Ghostwriter('ALMOST' being the operative word there!)

1) She's absolutely guttered and angry at St Kilda for letting him go. She cannot believe they're paying a bunch of their cap on an injury riddled Silvagni which has clearly affected their ability to retain Steele from a financial perspective.

2) He had a shoulder injury which hampered his 2025 season.

3) In her words "we are lucky" to have Steele and he's still got some good footy ahead of him.

4) She also mentioned that had Steele had his time over again, he would have kept his intention to give up the captiancy after the trade week. Imagine the optics if St Kilda traded the current captain who was all set to skipper them again next year.

Funny you should say that.

In one of his earlier games as coach on his return to St Kilda (2023) Ross was open to the press that he'd sunk a few cans between the end of the game and the start of the presser.

The same pick swap meant we got Steele for Oliver So we get 21 disposals instead of 25 but lose destabilising influence and gain leadership. Also have to pay out more in salary to other club than what we receive from other club, although we actually pay less than what we would have if Oliver stayed. I'm happy with that.

How many saints have become demons, a religious question for the experts (quite a few recently) then there was big Carl......

If St Kilda goes off the rails, it'll be because they didn't have enough Steele.

There, I did it. Mostly just for Demonstone's benefit.

Who wants to make the 'something something staying on trac' joke? Nobody? Excellent.

I think I'm just bumping this thread to reaffirm what a great acquisition Jack Steele is.

And to wonder is the Saints are for the first time without a successor to the great Nathan Bourke-Robert Harvey-Lenny Hayes-Jack Steele progression of indomitable midfielders?

I immediately thought of Shane Grambeau - w hat a beautiful name.

Yep, and looks like he always has to burp too.

Steele will be a huge addition both on and off field. He will set up the right decisions, culture and work ethic for the young developing mids like Langford, Windsor & Lindsay.

I was surprised and pleased that he was available and that Dees worked hard in a very quick action to bring him in. Especially given we lost Trac and Clarry.

I wonder which other club squads would send such a nice note to another squad. How about a poll?
