This. He's still playing good tough footy. His clearance and tackle numbers are better than any of our mids, including Clarry in his current form. He's durable, reliable, and a leader.

I've really come around to this trade. Stoked!

And he is a very good tackler. Probably one of the best in the comp!

Will be nice to actually stick some of them for a change.

This has something of a Daniel Cross feel to it. Good bloke, excellent trainer, good to have around our younger players.

Thanks again, Turner. Wow!

Perhaps try this one, then: numbers of AFL captains in a team, against our 4 (Max, Jack, Steven, Jack).

With bonus points when being captains when recruited (our Steven, Jack)

No.

This actually makes me angry at the thought.

We are better off backing our current players. Rivers, Windsor, Langford, Sparrow, Lindsay etc.

Another Jack Billings type trade. Bugger off Lamb.

Bet u don’t say this after 6 weeks ! If Steele is not better than Sparrow I dont know the game . Absolutely nothing like Billings

Steele is an absolute “steal” 🤣🤣🤣had to say it !! Smart buying

Perfectly fits our needs in transition from the JV,Trac and Clarry midfield era into the Kozzy/Langford/Lindsay/Windsor midfield.

Exactly who came to mind for me, really good get in terms of leadership.

I love this pickup, makes me feel a lot better about what we lost. Well don’t MFC for getting him in, still not sure how this happened but glad it did.

The 1st positive thing he has said about us all year

Don’t know what’s more shocking:

The speed of which this trade came to fruition or Kane saying something positive about the MFC.

I'm overseas and out of the loop but with Flanders choosing Saints Jack is almost certainly gone.

Is there a knock on him, is his body cooked? Is he past his best?

We are in desperate need of culture change and leadership qualities and i would have thought this guy has it in spades.

We are bottom 6 for a few more years I reckon and need a no DH policy to turn this club around ... on and off the field.

Under appreciated post to open this thread with only a down vote!

no xx :)

I like Steele as a player. He’s super tough and can sneak forward and kick a goal. That said, he isn’t that well suited to the way the game is headed and I would have gone younger and looked for someone in the draft. I don’t think we can roll with two of Steele, Langford and Cullen in the same centre midfield.

Tom Morris said today that it was well known at St Kilda that Jack Steele wasn’t a big fan of Ross Lyon.

The more I hear about Jack the more I like him.

Very happy with this. A good substitute on field for Clarry and a solid citizen to boot. Good for the kids and good for the kulcha.

Yeah I’m interested in how King will fit he and Viney into this team. Found this stat which jumped out at me.

2025 Season:

Viney 89 turnovers

Oliver 83 turnovers

Tracc 101 turnovers

Steele…….. 55 turnovers…. This is very telling, haha

And if we lose Max/McDonald/May/Melksham during or at the end of this season, we will need Steele for his proven leadership capabilities. We don’t want to create a vacuum of experience and have the younger unproven guys carrying more weight than they need to IMO. Going into the following seasons.

Plus we essentially just swapped Oliver out for Steele in which would only have been a 3rd rounder.

You might be writing Max off prematurely, especially as he has a contract for the next 2 seasons.

I’m not writing him off at all in terms of his ability to stay at the level, I have no doubt he’ll be able to play a few more years no problem. I just mean if he was to get a long term injury or something, a player like Steele is an excellent inclusion in terms of helping to cover his loss of leadership.

Just wouldn’t want to find ourselves suddenly in an experience/leadership vacuum and too much burden being placed on the younger guys before they’re ready. I think it’s a good contingency to have him in the team if that scenario eventuated IMO.

Steele is a leader and knows how to get it and kick a goal. Right now he's a better option than Clarry.

Clarry will run amok at GWS, and im not talking about on-field.

Will be a good player for us if he stays fit, my main concern is he has a pretty bad degenerative knee issue doesnt he? At least playing most weeks on the glorious MCG will be a lot better for his legs than that glorified carpark at Docklands

Yes, lot of talk when Lyon went back to St Kilda that they got off on the wrong foot and have never been big fans of each other...
