Farewell Christian Petracca

Featured Replies

The Goodwin, Petracca, Oliver era comes to an end. We got a flag with these guys and the other 2021 heroes of the MFC. This group will be immortalised at the MFC. The club is always bigger and we will rise again with new champions. The era of the King has begun and he has plenty to do and we also have a guy called Harvey Langford who will make his mark as did Petracca.

I agree @dazzledavey36 . Petracca is a champoion of our club and imo a champion of the game.

But he also had a chance to be a part of getting this club back up the ladder. Instead, this overly emotional sook took the easy way out. Yeah yeah nearly died blah blah

I wouldn't want to be in the trenches with him. How many thumbs down can I get 🤣

Out of interest, have you ever been in the trenches?

I'm going to admit, It's going to be a much easier watch seeing both Trac and Clarry play for the franchise teams as opposed to a Collingwood or Carlton.

Much easier bitter pill to swallow.

Gold Coast Suns receive:

Christian Petracca, two second-round picks (currently No.24 and 28) and a 2026 second-round pick (tied to Melbourne)

Melbourne receives:

two first-round pick (currently No.7 and 8), a second-round pick (currently No.37), a 2026 first-round pick (tied to Gold Coast) and a 2027 third-round pick (tied to Gold Coast)

This is a phenomenal deal for a 30 year old. It’s a sad day I agree but I don’t see the club moving forward with Trac and Clarry on the list. The game has changed and we need to bring in youth to get back up again.

Come on AFL, you know you want to schedule us to play the Suns on opening round.

That’s a good deal.

I know people are salty but this person is a Melbourne person. Our only Norm Smith Medallist and champion just like Clayton.

I expect us to honour him and I want us to as a club. If you boo you can, but I won’t.

Cya CP5

♥️

Both champions of the football club, regardless of what has happened in recent times.

I'd say almost everyone on here is put off about the current situation, one way or another. But mistakes were made on both sides, and the best thing for ALL parties was to separate and move on.

I wish both CP5 and Clarry all the best at their new clubs, despite the short-term pain that it will bring the MFC.

Booing them will really say more about the supporter than the player - there is only one ex-player who earned that send-off.

3 first rounders for Trac when two guys in his age bracket in Steele and Oliver were just traded for peanuts is a great outcome.

Barring any trades from here we'll have had 8 first round selections between 2023-2026.

Will be weird to watch him a different jumper but I have no grudge, an absolute star.

Wouldn’t be shocked if this happens.

I hope it doesn’t for King’s first game.

Pity we don’t have Byron Pickett to man up Trac when we play Gold Coast

Hopefully the 3 kids we draft will be 100% committed to the club not just during the good times.

Don’t let the door hit you on the way out Trac.

Mate he's a 4× AA, 2× Best and Fairest and a Norm Smith medalist. I'd say his 2020-2023 was one of the best four stretches I've ever seen from any of our players.

I'd say he was very consistent for a long time.

Absolutely. But I think about those 22 & 23 finals where especially in 23 he missed vital opportunities that I'd expect him to kick & him not really stepping up & taking control of matches this season.

Plus I'm still a bit annoyed that he shook that thugs hand before the kings birthday game first game back after Gus retired

What am I meant to do now with my Trac (wearing his Norm Smith medal) and Clarry bobble heads from the 2021 flag? I also have Max and Kozzie all still in their boxes.

Four years ago if I knew two of these would no longer be with us now, would have bet on Kozzie and perhaps an old and injured Max. Would never have thought Trac and Clarry would be the two to go.

Oh the pain. The pain.

Then again maybe I am just a bobble headed booby for buying them in the first place.

Where are all the victims that say we never hold firm and always fold?

Sack Lamb. Waaaaaaa

Does trench warfare with the Demon Army count?

Nostalgia wise I’m sadder about Clarry than Trac.

He’ll be back to his devastating best at the Suns. Can put that in the book. But it wasn’t going to happen here. Both parties had been done for a while.

Don’t wish him in any ill will and thankful he didn’t subject the fanbase to watching him run around for another Vic club.

But other than that I’m in the thanks for the flag, thanks for the pick haul and see ya later camp 👋

Lots of moving parts in this, but appears to be about the equivalent of Pick 1 or 2 to us.

This deal could work out nicely for us because Petracca may never be the same player post injury

  • CASEY: Richmond

The winds finally returned to Casey Fields for the Demons’ third home game of the VFL season, and its impact was immediate. After two opening rounds played in uncharacteristically fine conditions, the Anzac Day clash brought back the familiar gusty conditions that have been a feature of the region at this time of the year.
Forced to kick into the breeze first, the slow-starting Demons faced a tricky opening against an enthusiastic young Tigers outfit. Casey responded by turning the contest into a scramble, pressuring Richmond into errors and missed targets. The tactic proved crucial, keeping the game tight for three and a half quarters before the Demons pulled away with the autumn wind at their backs.

  • REPORT: Richmond

It seemed as if the whole purpose of the Anzac Eve clash at the MCG between the Demons and the Tigers was building toward that single, unforgettable moment when Kozzie Pickett soared above Campbell Gray and all but fittingly etched his name onto the face of the 2026 Frank ‘Checker’ Hughes Medal.
