I have no in depth knowledge of the world of assistant coaches but he seems to hsve good credentials and congrats on the Dees for going with a novice senior coach. Looking forward to seeing what style of play the Dees will have in 2026 👍

The best thing about the tall former ruckman Steven King's appointment is that when he holds the Premiership Cup aloft with Max next year, it won't be all lopsided like it was with Goody.

Feel bad for Kelly, he was a close second. He had told his sister he really felt he nailed it but King was always the problem with more experience.

Had a 2-5 record at the Suns as caretaker.

Gerard Healy has been raving about his credentials for a good 2 years now (and I always tuned out as to the reason why).

Not critical of the decision, but I find it a bit odd that he'll still be coaching Geelong, but good luck to him in his flag endeavours with the Cats. Don't we need a coach hands on deck to sort out list management?

In a decorated on-field career, King played 240 AFL games across a 15-year stint at both Geelong and St Kilda. He captained the Cats for four seasons, achieving the ultimate success in 2007 as part of the premiership team.

He switched to the Saints ahead of the 2008 season, playing in three campaigns for St Kilda before calling time on his playing days in 2010.

Following his retirement, King quickly shifted to coaching, remaining at the Saints for two seasons before heading to Whitten Oval to join the Western Bulldogs.
