Commemorative?

Are you our comms guy in disguise? 😅

Incidentally, the word “memorial,” while mostly used in reference to someone who’s deceased, can also apply to the living.

Let’s not hang the comms guy just yet. 😊

Why did Troy Chaplin say max gawn has flaws, in his speech? I know he has but I would have thought if your about to present your captain the best & fairest talk him up about the great year he had.

Admittedly I didn't hear the full speech but they played that bit on radio this morning

I think that his reference is based on the fact that Max is almost perfect But does have flaws ( goal kicking for one) I’m sure that he wasn’t referring to his character , fitness or leadership qualities.

I figured that.

Nope. Kozzy made AA. Easily a better season. Several players I'd have above Trac this year.

Again, that’s not how it works. It’s a different panel and voting system, it’s also not judged by position.

I mean Kozzy played the same position as a forward/mid and had a better year anyway.

I'm somewhat surprised that Guerra did not speak last night. I would have thought the B&F would have been a perfect platform to set out his vision for the club.

So was i.

I actually thought it was kinda strange he didn't as I'm pretty sure Green said he had commenced and as you say what better opportunity for him to put his flag in the ground and introduce himself to passionate supporters, almost all of whom are paid up members.

agreed

should have been one of the major speakers

I think that we all would have liked to hear him introduce himself to our B& F crowd, perfect opportunity to break the ice.

Surprised no TMAC (only 17 games) or Turner up there, or Rivers either. Thought Turner had a very solid year and was the highest rated backman in the league for a while in the last part of the year (fox footy), unsure which stat exactly.

I would've had MAX, Pickett, Bowey, then Petracca.

I thought Oliver's last match was outstanding.

talls, especially defenders get robbed in these awards.

I think you and a few others are being tough on Salo Poita he averages 22 disposals / game at 81% and 8 marks per game.

Nearly all of those stats are him chipping the ball side to side having little influence.

Modern football requires half backs to be a big part of scoring chains. Salem isn't in the top 250 players in this metric. He is also ranked 393rd for meters gain per disposal showing just how passive he has become.

He is ranked 202nd for defensive pressure acts and is outside the top 300 for spoils so he isn't really a defensive type either. You have to be one or the other, at the moment he is neither.

With his skillset and experience he should be having far more impact on the game.

To me, the fact he was rated so highly internally illustrates just how much we as a club have no idea when it comes to offense/ damaging ball movement and are focused on the wrong aspects of modern footy.

Disco Turner should demand a re-count!

He is the only harsly done-by player from the the top 10.

I thought he would be pushing for the top 5. Absolute break out year

also why was the vfl player of the year just not announced?? or did i miss it

too busy wondering why billings was on the screen

Sorry Brenno I watch him with different eyes, if he tries to take 50+m kicks and turns it over it comes back over his head and all the defenders out of position, he hits up his targets they can maintain possession, play on or wait for the next option. I believe that Salo is following the coaches guidance and that is why he is polling so well. Same goes for Chin and Sparrow they are playing a role, if they weren’t doing their job they would be out of there.

Very impressive finish for Harvey in his first season..

I wasn't there and didn't see the stream but would be interested peoples thoughts that did in relation to this comment. Noting it's presented with zero context below, it doesn't scream 'unified exective management team'

One interesting comment ..I’m not sure if it was Richo or Chappy but when talking about changes he said “Paul wanted a new coach”. Not the “board decided on a new coach”.

I watched the live feed but didn’t pick that up at all, mind you some of the speakers weren’t that lucid, none spoke as clearly as Simon.😁👍

Was there last night as I have been for the last 10 or 12. Was the lowest attendance in a long time. Danger signs for the club if they can't turn the low membership and poor performances around.

One of the reasons Goodwin was moved on perhaps, they would have had insights as to what this looked like going forward.

Also one of the reasons why Buckley could be the front runner: high profile, attractive to members and sponsors, yadda yadda.

There’s a separate awards ceremony for the VFL/VFLW. This year it’s on October the 2nd, which is a Thursday night, it’s at the Art Centre, which is a great venue, and tickets are $180 apiece, not $300.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.
