Fullarton should be delisted lacks intensity, agree Laurie & Culley should play AFl in 2026. Verrall unfortunately hasn't developed. AJ not up to it, Billings delist.

Great comeback by Casey. I bagged Laurie, but he came back and was fantastic in that comeback. Culley has the ability to be anything he has something special. AJ gave a bit when he moved into the ruck and has a red-hot go and Yze is lively. Sestan created opportunities with some pinpoint kicking and showed his worth

Fullarton went forward, and I cannot remember a player being so uncompetitive. Verrel was not used at all, and I think will be delisted. All in all, there will be delistings, but unless the club has targeted players or delisted free agents, we must consider that we have limited draft picks available. 2 of these will go to Sinema and White. We know that Hore has retired, Henderson has been injured and out of contract, and I doubt will get another means. I don't think there will be as many delistings as we think.

Last but not least, yet again we lose a game with more inside 50's, more scoring shots and some horrible misses running into an open goal

Okay, I'm going to say it, the stereotype lives.

We went to Frankston at night and got robbed.

As a native Frankstonian, I can not dispute this sentiment.

Schache makes them both play like Glen Archer.

I agree with the assessment. It was interesting to see which players can stand up …

Who stood up? Culley. Laurie. Hardie. Kolt. TC

Who didn’t? Sestan. Verrall. Fullarton. Woey jnr. KBrown

I commented earlier about the AFL/VFL gap and Culley, but he really did look a cut above out there tonight.

He didn't earlier this year, so let's hope it's a permanent change, and not just peak form. Because he really looks like he can be a competitive player at AFL level.

Probably most impressed with his versatility. Can play mid, wing or forward, and look comfortable in all of them.

We got so close 💔 ☹️💔

I’m incredibly proud of the boys. That fight-back was immense. When they came off the ground each and every one of them looked devastated (in particular, Deaks). It was hard to see them like that compared to prematch when they were confident and raring to go.

But they can hold their heads high.

PS There’s a special place in hell reserved for Frankston fans. Feral af. Feral with a capital FERAL. The aggressive bogan men were rivalled only by the rough-as-guts teenagers. They make St Albans feel like Toorak. I’m looking forward to getting to the city, far away from that cesspool of repugnance.

No Jeffo no Casey

BROKEN by KC from Casey

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season .

When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

When they were good, they formed an exciting combination, capable of playing thrilling, winning football.

On this occasion, however, the Demons were unable to demonstrate enough of the latter, and although they mounted a comeback to trail by less than a goal in the game's final moments, they were unable to secure victory and advance to a preliminary final playoff.

The game opened as an armwrestle with Casey settling down to hold a six-point lead at the first break. The Dolphins were coming off a thrashing in their qualifying final and looked to be more motivated than they were last week against the top-of-the-ladder Bulldogs. However, when the quick thinking Jai Culley got boot to ball and slotted the first goal of the second term, the Demons looked to be on their way.

However, it was not to be and the game changed dramatically. Things turned around quickly with the Dolphins exerting their dominance over the game. It seemed as if they could not miss in front of goal as their purple patch saw them skipping away to a seven goal lead by halfway through the third quarter.

And while Casey turned the tide and nearly won in the end, Frankston’s second half haul of eight goals from nine scoring shots was decisive.

There was talk in the crowd that some of the 15 Melbourne-listed players had already been notified that they were not on the required list for 2026. If this is true, then it was a poor move by the club because it appeared that a number of players were particularly uninterested on the night.

One of those who did play his heart out was former West Coast Eagle Culley who finished with 19 disposals, five marks and three timely goals. Tom Campbell was also strong both in the ruck where he amassed 47 hitouts and around the ground with 23 touches including nine clearances and four marks. The main beneficiaries of his prowess were Bailey Laurie with 29 disposals, six clearances and a goal and Jack Billings (26 touches) and Koltyn Tholstrup also had his moments.

Mitch Hardie was a strong contributor in the comeback up forward with his three goals while Riley Bonner and Riley Baldi were solid contributors on the night.

Unfortunately, there were too few who matched the desperation of the home team and there were far too many defensive failures to enable the team to proceed into next week. The free kick count of 23 to 12 in favour of the home side was also telling as was the poor conversion near goal.

IMG_2909.jpeg

A testament to Frankston’s accuracy for goal is that they went inside 50 on 45 occasions for their 16 goals. Casey had 15 more entries for their 13 goals … and sadly, that is in many ways the story of the two Demon outfits in 2025.

they have to wear it

Laurie and Culley were the standouts from what I saw. In fact, Culley’s improvement over the season has been really impressive and seemed to draw a lot of confidence from his time in the seniors. Kicked 3.1 tonight and gave another one off but seemed to move really intuitively as a forward. At 6ft 4, I wonder why he’s not discussed as more of a permanent key position prospect - he looked most effective for Melbourne deep in the forward line as well.

As for Laurie. I hope he’s kept and gets a clean slate under a new coach because he just seems a class above this level.

I’m excited to see what Kolt and Kentfield can do with a full pre-season under their belts. Kentfield doesn’t quite seem to be involved enough at this stage, but still has a significant impact when he does get it.

Laurie is contracted for 2026 so technically he gets another chance next year.

I want to see what a new coach can do with him. I have watched enough Casey games this year where he's absolutely dominated and last night was another example where I scratch my head on how we gifted 17 of the most ridiculous games to Harry Sharp whilst we left Laurie in the scrapheap.

Laurie has AFL traits. I want to see what a new coach can do with him.

Even with his lack of impact at AFL level, i have been really bullish on kolt.

But whilst he got a bit of the ball last night I was really disappointed with both his game and attitude.

With his build, size, relative lack of athletisism and low disposal numbers Kolt will need to have an x factor to thrive at AFL level.

Elimination final at VFL level, the end of his second full season on an AFL list against a team with no AFL listed players.

It was the perfect game for him to be the x factor, for him to impose himself on the game and make a winning impact

Funnily enough I had that thought then 45 seconds later he missed that sitter after a beautiful bit of transition.

Yes he kicked a good goal later, and yes he was involved.

But he doesn't work hard enough, looks completely static and flat footed at stoppages and wastes energy with the faux tough guy stuff (which only works if like say a Toby Greene you backlit up with stellar performances).

Culley and laurie had more x factor than kolt.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
