It's Game Day and the Demons will be running out on the field with a new Head Coach, albeit a caretaker, for the first time in 3,060 days when they face the Western Bulldogs at the MCG today. What do you want to see from the Demons in the first match of the Post Simon Goodwin era?

Petty playing in defence HIS NATURAL POSITION

i'd like to see a win, continuing on from the excellent ball movement and variety of attacking forays in the second half of last week

sadly, footscray are not meth coke

Something just doesn’t feel right about today.

Sure there are arguments for and against Goody staying, but I’m still grieving a bit.  Just like I suspect quite a few players are.

Come what may, he was our premiership coach and he always had our players best interests….and was and still is a bloody good bloke.

Some people were critical of Langdon’s presser the other day for essentially saying as it is rather than spin. I certainly wasn’t.  Call it as it is.

On the flip side not long after, there was Gawny doing the spin as expected saying something to the effect that he was amazed how quickly he and the side has moved on.  It was very easy to see right through this.  He was just doing his job.  In my opinion he clearly was not a happy man.

Go Dees for today and the following two weeks.  Not sure what team turns up though.

Footy supposedly is always bigger than any individual.

But also go Goody (yeah I know his financially secure and all that) I still wish him all the best.  No matter which way you slice it or dice it, the club hierarchy at the end of the day [censored] on him. And he felt it.

Go Dees.

I’m share some of these sentiments. Im concerned they’re going to collapse inwardly and be demolished . On the other hand Im hoping the play for goodys memory and the future. We’re going to know by the 10 minute mark of the 1st.

Hoping for a new coach bounce today. We’ve played the dogs well at the G. We can ruin their finals aspirations. BCNA pink lady match. Plenty to play for.

Is the new coach bounce real? Caution it’s a betting site:

~40% of the time it pays off, but in saying that some of the teams went in as favorites.

you heard Maxy and jack viney during the week. The team will put in a proper performance today.

not sure if they'll be good enough to win though, doggies are a very good team (and will be unlucky if they miss out on finals)

The decision on Hoody has been made , we all have to live with that.

The players are professional football players.

They have everything to GAIN by playing to their ability or better as a team. The present coach likewise.

We will not be discraced, unless we are complete rabble. This will not happen.

The players will look to the future, either here or there. And play for their future. Go Dee’s by a bees [censored] !

Absolutly nothing to lose in this game

I'm worried that we're going to get battered in these next three games. Positives? After two weekends inside a closed dome it'll be nice to feel the sun on my skin and breathe fresh air again.

I am in the minority and felt like Max and Jack both played the media thoroughly during the week. I don't think either of them believed what they said. I think the club would have sat them down after Langdons comments and let them know that unless they want to set the club back another 5 to 10 years (player acquisition, membership, etc.), public comments all need to suggest the players are on board and on the same page.

We will find out today I reckon. Bulldogs are playing so powerfully offensively that if your defence is slightly off you'll get battered. It feels like a Melb player protest game incoming and could easily be 20+ goals. If our playing group veer away from Goodwin’s defensive demands I don't think they are good enough or internally driven enough to deliver anything competitive.

Hope I am way off here. These are just my gut feelings.

if we put in an insipid performance they will both look very foolish. and delusional.

Go Dees.

Complete opposite for me. It's the first time I've felt invested for months and I'm really looking forward to how they respond.

It will be very tough without May/Lever up against 2 of the in form forwards in the comp.

I genuinely feel for Goody as well wodja but we were going backwards. It was not all his doing but it was well over time for a change and it's time for all of us to get behind the players and enjoy where this next chapter takes us.

We'll win today.

Jed Adams is playing for his career and will fix up Naughton. Big Maxy will plonk himself in backline and out mark Darcy every time.

Our midfield will be rejuvenated with more rotations and Langdon is just itching to do another press conference after his 200th

Proper performance everyday surely this is what is missing some days

In the grand scheme of things the result doesn’t really matter.

So i’m hoping to enjoy the game and see our young players develop.

We are a professional group so I doubt we’ll lay down and not put in the effort.

Darcy is over a foot taller than our defenders so it’s hard to see how he doesn’t dominate

On the other hand, their defence is still average so get it in quickly and we can get some easy scores

Why can't we take the players on face value and see that, as professionals, they can move on quickly? They do it every week. Recovery and review day 1, and move on and plan the next game 2 days later, irrespective of whether we win or lose. They assess and move on. That is what they are trained to do.

What we think they are really saying or judging how they feel is more a reflection of our own thoughts and feelings, not theirs. If Max says they have moved on I believe him.

I believe that the interim coach, having declared he is not going to apply, has been as open and honest as possible. He isn't going to change much, as it is so late in the season. They may make a few tweeks and have selected a largely unchanged side. Casey played a belter yesterday up north with all of the MFC players showing up.

Look at the vision of the players as they announce Adams impending debut. They really don't look like sad, maudlin, woe-is-me victims. 7 of our last 8 quarters have been some of the best football they have played this season. The one shocking quarter has affected us all.

I hope they have a red hot go, play good attacking football and start gathering some momentum to take into the pre-season.

Just want to see the Melbourne wrecking balls the next 3 week. Physical, up for the fight!

It’s game day baby. Pumped!

Go EL200, smash em.

Let’s [censored] go!

SN34

I’m firmly with you Older demon. We need to move on quickly, now that the change has been made.

I want to see a really competitive Melbourne outfit push Footscray all the way, and make us supporters proud!

If we do that we might even eke out a win by a small margin. That would really have us looking towards 2026 with gusto! ❤️💙

Hope the MCC is serving duck for Ed’s 200th

The job of the Board is to make decisions in the best interests of the Club & they have done that.

And whether Goodwin is a good bloke or not is totally irrelevant. I'm sure Mark Neeld is a good bloke.

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.
