Jobe Watson? Isn't he the one whose career apex was under the disgraced coach James Hird who championed a supplement injection scandal? Is that what we're looking for in terms of "intimate knowledge of the day-to-day operations of a football department"?

Take a cold shower. Jesus. This site has become a cesspit of negativity and misery. Add whining stupidity. You'd be better off watching some porn, or reading a book. (It would have to be large print.)

I was very much against Buckley at first, but as time goes by it seems extremely clear that the team is transitioning in the right direction and that that direction should be maintained. A new, inexperienced coach would almost certainly want to put his own stamp on the team and change the direction – which is exactly what Mark Neeld did with results we all know about. Buckley seems to understand that we are headed in the right direction and I suspect he would simply concentrate on improving our skills as he was extremely skilled himself. So I have now become very much for him.

You must be watching and listening to different interviews or shows than I am. He has not exactly been doing a Tom Cruise on Oprah, nor has he been coy and then declared no interest like Simpson and Longmire. I assume he is our preference and I will concede that he has shown more than a mild interest, but I will not be surprised if in the coming weeks he were to come out and say he is not ready to begin coaching again.

Putting aside the financial feasibility that will satisfy him and meet any hurdles within our soft cap, there are definitely many cons that could turn him away. These include perceived board or club instability, the lack of a home base, the unattractiveness of Casey’s location, and any other perceived problems associated with the club.

No doubt there will be pros that appeal to him, but we should not be naive about all the noise, whether genuine or not, that could potentially scare him away.

A lot of these issues, whether perceived or real, might not be a problem for a highly touted assistant who is craving a crack at the big time.

I was wondering whether he was trying to get the Devils to commit early.

Why?

You're not curious ??

I can see how the other two outliers could be selected.. Not sure upon what basis Jobe us qualified to sit upon this panel. Perhaps his experience at Purple College... 🤷‍♂️

Perhaps he's a supplemental selection...

I get they need a legal eagle (boom boom) but why a Test cricket great?

Governance has been on a downhill slide since PJ left and we'll finish bottom 6 two years running. Tell me how great we are.

Just got an email from the Club re the coach panel.

Happy there are a few reasonable externals on the panel, Jobe Watson and Director of football at Storm...

Excellent externals especially parnissi. Smith also as you would expect so will have fingerprints on process and outcome as he should as incoming chair.

Announcement from Green is timely as he noted last week.

Watson is left field but he comes across as articulate and will have solid background on footy department ops. Richo hasn't been sacked so currently needs to be on but hardly will impact selection being possibly on borrowed time.

Fills me with confidence.

Let's not forget all the Buckley talk has been by Nathan and assorted media tarts.

I like having Frank on the committee

Ponissi is a very impressive operator. Good get for the panel.

Why don't we just appoint Buckley before he changes his mind. After the appointment we can then [censored] around selecting a coaching panel.

I hope Kalani isn't disheartened by Jobe's inclusion. We don't want a flat White.

I dont care if Jobe or Tim or Dr Watson from Sherlock Holmes are on the panel. As long as they make the right choice.

Not pleased with Richo being involved. Sounds like shoring up his position

The *wink *wink process has kicked off

Don’t say Buckley

I wonder if PowerPoint is still the presentation du jour? Or are they onto canva presos these days?!

Transparencies and a projector i’m hearing

Green, Smith and Guera are a given as is Richardson as FD Manager, Parnissi is a great get ( Storm 17 final series), Jobe Watson 220 game former Captain, I have no issue with and the HR Leader will make sure it is conducted fairly. Should deliver a high quality candidate for our club. Doesn’t matter who is on the panel there will always be critics, personally I am happy that the Panel has been selected so quickly and now - Let the Process Begin, time and tide wait for no person.

Looks bloody good to me. Glad they’ve reached outside the four walls. If Buckley eventually gets the nod we’ll know he’s been evaluated and tested properly as the right candidate rather than just anointed (which is what the media wants us to do - which they would then use against us when we have a bad patch in the future).

Me too. To protect against some lazy wannabee coach entering a prompt into chatgpt like:

Give me a snazzy PowerPoint that includes a five year plan and minimum of two flags

Step 1: get more Pickett

Step 2: world domination

I've a very good feeling about Chaplin coaching us. Love how he carries himself and seems to effect others.

He had our backline humming; moved to coaching forward line and forwards seemed to get a bit better while backline got worse (plenty of reasons why, ...but still).

Also bad usually happens when we get someone from Collingwood.

I'm much more comfortable choosing Chaplin over Buckley

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
